I am in Florida and don't want to stock food in the hot garage. I put extra foods in bins. I number each bin and write down on a sheet of paper all that is in the bin and tape it on the lid so I know what each bin contains. I also wrote down each bins contents on a sheet of paper and put each bin content copied into a dollar store three ring note book with all the contents of what bin it is in and what I have stored. I store the bins in my closets . This works for me in the heat of Florida as I rather store in the house where it is temperature controlled. Paper products and cleaners such as bleach, soap products etc are stored in the garage.

That’s an impressive stockpile. Well thought out. I really don’t prep but I have started buying extra staples. And I have always put out a decent sized garden. My thought is that having all of what you have is great. But if we are talking survival, we don’t need a stockpile of every food item that we like. I’m not criticizing. I’m just saying that having all of our favorite sauces and dressings are really just a bonus. And if we have peanut butter and jelly and bbq sauce etc, we will be getting more than enough sugar for energy. I’ve not been watching for very long so this may have been talked about already, but I think a great way that all of us can be saving money on food is to start fasting one meal a day. Most Americans are overweight as it is. It would also condition our bodies and our minds to live on less. One thing I did during the pandemic was to walk 3 miles every day. I kept my immune system up and my mind clear of all of the stress. I know that’s a bit off subject but I is a way to keep us from needing so much medication by keeping our bodies healthy.

Prep up on jarred bouillon (all types); Stock up on salt/pepper and honey (honey is a natural anti-inflammatory, many purposes); limited storage space: empty the bottom of EVERY drawer in your house-condo-apartment (clothes dressers, home offices drawers, kitchen cupboard drawers, storage closets drawers, etc.) and STACK IT UP. For storing multiple packets of dried soup mixes, gravy mixes, sauce mixes, spaghetti sauce mixes, any packaged seasonings, packaged dehydrated food products, etc.:: empty all shoe boxes to store said goods and label boxes accordingly. Line up the packets in shoe boxes as if each box were a file cabinet drawer, label accordingly, and STACK IT UP! Finally, do not discard glass jars with lids, of any type. @namehere4954
@namehere4954 2 года назад
@@mush3199 No, you're not going to change moisture content of the beans with oxygen absorbers. Oxygen absorbers only absorb oxygen which is 21% of the air, 78% is nitrogen. To OP, yes you can use bucket with oxygen absorbers but the bucket is still porous and will slowly leak over time so you may not get super long-term storage but yes that option (bucket w/absorbers) is better than plain bucket.

Yes, you can cut the firestarters to make them go further, my mom used to do it. I make my own firestarters with shredded paper in wax paper cups that I add melted wax in. Your wonky soap shreds might be usable for dish water washing too. When I have a lot of soap slivers, I "melt them" in a jar with water and have washed dishes with the melt water. You have done really well for having recently moved, starting the pantry again. You might look at the thrift or garage sales for a chafing dish holder to put the sterno cans in that has a base for the pot to sit on top or have a safe method already to go for use for safety. I didn't see any water stored? Extra supplies for the oil lamps are a great idea, I will get some. I hope we get another tour when the new shelves are in. I would store more milk powder/creamer to use with the cocoa powder to make hot cocoa as in winter if there is no electricity I think you will be wanting more hot drinks. Those cheap spaghetti sauces in the can work great as a soup base for ministrone. Love what you do! Thanks for sharing.

Golly, Your choices look so much like my ideas of a prep pantry - only yours is so much neater and I have kitty litter in my kitty litter buckets with black plastic bags for people litter when that stuff hits the fan. You know that garlic has medicinal benefits. So does my other must-have, cinnamon. If I could, I would eat only the highest quality organic food, and still have my 18-year-old figure and pearly white teeth in my head, not the drawer... - But, laughing my socks off - I have to be real. A canned veggie or a box of dry cereal is so much better than a sorry organic fruit or a sugarless 25 whole-grain slab of bread with mold. When the power is kaput - I choose to eat what I can gum that is not completely poisoned than starve or kill somebody because my blood sugar is on the floor at 30. I bought Sterile or cheaper plastic totes to stack since I have no shelves in my tiny home. Then I tuck blankets, adult diapers or bowel management meds on top to disguise

Praise the Lord for that excellent deal on the shelving units!!! 😀 Will you do another video after you have everything in place? I have an important question about dented cans. Is it ok if I dented the cans myself (fell down on my porch when bringing in some bags) a little over a month ago? They're in a way where the seals haven't been broken, but I'm a little concerned now that maybe I let them sit on the counter too long. I'd hate to throw them away if they're still good to use, but I'd hate even more to make my family sick. I want to thank you and your family (especially your lovely mother) for being such a great positive influence on all of us! You both remind me of in the Bible where it says for the older women to teach us younger women. I wish I would have had that example when I was growing up! I really appreciate all that you're doing to teach us! As I see your paper towels, I'm especially thankful for a previous video where you showed us how to make rags. It's saved us some money already because my teenager, no matter how hard I stress the issue, would be exceptionally lavish with his paper towel usage, and I'd be left with an empty roll just about every other day. I found a trick though; if I don't replace it, nobody is willing to dig them out, so now I can keep just a couple on hand for an as-needed basis, but use rags and cloths for everyday. I also love the video where your mom shows us the right way to wash dishes. I went and got a plastic dish pan right away, and it truly does save a LOT of soap. 😊 THANK YOU!!! Please show us more practical everyday homemaking tips like these! Blessings and greetings from Chicagoland. 👋
