this is a StokerMatic coal furnace. I can not say enough good about these units. very high heat output and easy on the coal. Here in Montana(as of today), coal is running $85 per ton. To put that in to perspective, my house is an old 1920s build that that is about 1,000 square feet with a partial heated basement. I use about 1/2 ton of coal per month during the winter. That means my heating bill is around 42.50 APPX per month. Natural gas would cost about $65 per month. Electric at 9 cents per KWH would cost me around 150-175.
Why coal?
Unlike wood, it burns hotter longer and overall. You also don't have to cut it down, stack it, or split it.
It also burns a lot cleaner believe it or not. I rarely notice smoke coming out of my chimney.
One ton of coal is comparable to a cord of wood. a quality, split cord of wood can cost up to $300, where I have never seen coal over $150 per ton.
