Red and black are always great together and the males of this barb have gorgeous red and black fins.

Thanks for the comment bro! Yea red and black are a great combination and that light we use makes everything with any red pop like crazy, would make your white clouds look insane

@Aquadiction hmmm...I only have stock LEDs and just white. I bought and have 2 other light sets but I have to cut my glass tops about and eighth of an inch and I'm afraid of the glass shattering. I bought the glass cutting kit and gloves. One of the lights I have is a hygger 957 which is supposed to be pretty good, but again I need to cut the glass first. It's just a little too long on each one. My tank has the middle brace so each piece of glass needs to be just perfectly sized

Your braver than me that’s for sure, but then my diy skills are wicked bad! Let us know how you get on with that, fingers crossed it goes to plan!!

Indeed, these "Stolicz" are not commonly found in my area. I have only come across them on one occasion as "contaminates" in a tank of Odessas. I spotted them and took them even though the people working in the shop had no idea what they were. Unfortunately, they ended up being two males so I couldn't breed them. If I come across this rarely found barb in the shops, I'd probably get a group of them. They are very similar in size & temperment as the Odessa (Pethia padamya). Thanks for sharing.

@@Aquadiction nope never kept a barb yet! In fact there are sooo many types of fish I’m just starting to explore. I’ve kept large aggressive central and South American cichlids for most of it.. then I moved on to the African cichlids, can’t keep. Much else with them, though now a whole new world has opened for me, and I’m new again🙂👍🏻p.s chris knows, I want to try some, I’m thinking cherry barbs to start out.

Have you ever considered Cyprichromis leptosoma? Peaceful stunning African cichlids you can keep with pretty much anything and plants? We had many African cichlids years ago and it was not a relaxing aquarium but have these now and WISH we knew about them sooner! Super hardy stunners, Cyprichromis nice link here aquariumfishonline.com.au/product/sardine-cichlid-cyprichromis-leptosoma-5cm/

Ever tried Cyprichromis Leptosoma aquariumfishonline.com.au/product/sardine-cichlid-cyprichromis-leptosoma-5cm/ most peaceful African cichlids going, plants/community fish go fine with these guys in our experience, have some currently in our bedroom, stunning fun little fish! Worth looking into if you like cichlids but not up for all the angst lol

Its also called the ticto barb correct?? These are beautiful barbs . .they look similar to my favorite Odessa Barbs. I have never seen them for sale here. Excellent species profile... Well done!!!
@Aquadiction
@Aquadiction 10 месяцев назад
Your Kinda correct, they were reclassified as their own species but many people still do call them the ticto barb to this day as a common name! they are much more colourful than the ticto which I believe is now Puntius and these are Pethia, so close ❤️👍so your kinda Correct m8, they are often labelled as tick tac toe or tickto barbs by many shops from what I understand though I have NEVER seen these available so when we found some on eBay maybe a year back we had to get them
@FishRfun
@FishRfun 10 месяцев назад
Yeah Odessa barbs are very cool too. I've only got denison barbs at the moment (the only barbs I have), but I can see myself getting others in the future.
@Aquadiction
@Aquadiction 10 месяцев назад
We got some Odessa online maybe 6 months back and they have hardly any red at all, was hoping it was because they were young and they could all be females or another barb altogether, need to have a closer look at them although the tank they are in has a broken light lol! Always a risk buying online rather than a LFS i guess!

@@Aquadiction they are probably young .. give them some live foods or some frozen .. colours should pop quickly

If you could only keep a single barb species I’m interested to know which you would pick? I’d most likely pick the Black Ruby Barb (although Denison barbs would come close because both male and female are as brightly coloured) thoughts?
@Ruby-do3gz
@Ruby-do3gz 10 месяцев назад
please make a video on how to breed denison barb , can u ??
@Aquadiction
@Aquadiction 10 месяцев назад
At present, we only have two of these species in our care. Previously, when our collection included around 20 individuals, we unfortunately weren't able to successfully breed them. It's my understanding that commercial breeding of this species often involves hormonal interventions, a process that we're not equipped to replicate :(.

Yes, something smaller and peaceful like a cherry barb would suit me well! Currently working on a partial blackwater tank (10.7 gallons) and they are a maybe for that. My first two ideas were either species of blue eye rainbow or licorice gouramis. @@Aquadiction

@LushSaltyAquariums have you heard of Jae barbs? Stunning barb smaller than the cherry and needs black water, we had them maybe 4 years back now might be worth thinking about aquadiction.world/species-spotlight/jae-barb/
