When I see this type of tomfoolery I know that our male youth are on the right track for our future. Bring on the feminists and politic correct comments!
The cast and crew demonstrate that a true classic can still be made. Iconic score, stunning videography and incredible production value. One for the ages. 10/10 - IMDb
Makes for a very nice contrast to all those American youtubers getting so excited and doing silly content. You're here as a beacon of seriousness, infallibility and with the spirit of true exploration. Love it 😂
That moment (14:00) was just pure hysterical laughter, the order that proceeded from the first calls of "fire" to, "its only the exhaust on fire" to Joe coming to the rescue and calming everyone's nerves with the "Don't panic, don't panic"....."I have a fire extinguisher" with the muffled "has anyone got some petrol for the fire" in the background, then joe proceeding to throw the fire extinguisher at the fire then the "that got it." had me rolling around.... It was truly inspirational, gripping, comedic, riveting, unpretentious sensitive, powerful and of course legendary. 12/10 - IGN 🤣🤣
I hope you guys can repair the centre axle/bevel box and perhaps film the process? I don't know how expensive/rare/impossibly difficult it would be to fix it. (Sell another tank to Cody!). Also get her back to full amphibiousnessness and take her on a proper lake?? Cheers for the fun!
I spotted it during the original 'collecting the Stolly' video. Front and rear wheels locked up, middle wheel rolling. Hoping any damage isn't getting worse for the fun and games, but I guess you have it in hand to get sorted another time.
Looks like both centre bevel boxes aren’t working so it’s a 6x4 hence the struggle to get out the ditch. In operation the hubs all had a line painted across them to help identify ‘wind up’ due to the transmission design. To release wind up you drove on the verge or over kerbs as the Stolly wasn’t intended for road use. This also meant you could see if you had full 6x6. I have heard that some private users remove some of the prop shafts or bevel / hub gears, presumably as it may reduce wind up, i drove one recently at an experience event for old times sake and only the middle wheels drove it. In the interest of fairness and good content Mr Hewes and the team need to return the Stolly to full 6x6 and give the mud hole another go!
It's amazing that they didn't have lockable centreline diffs or freewheel hubs or some other mechanism for making the Stolly 2 wheel drive for extended road use. Perhaps it might still be in service if they had...
Yes… the drive line on both sides was effectively ‘solid’ with a no spin differential in the transfer box to allow for side to side rotation or wouldn’t have gone round corners. (Think of it like a limited slip diff in a conventional axle) Budge engineering (i think) did convert some Stollys to diesel and fit air operated couplings between the drive shafts in the hull. You could then run in 2wd or 6wd as necessary. Don’t know how many they made or how many were sold (or still exist) but it didn’t catch on as the truck was dated at this point and lacked load capacity.
For those of a certain age, this is Last of the Summer Wine stuff, but with heavy military hardware. Great to watch, and an escape from the crap of everyday life. Thanks Joe and Co!
What an amazing machine! I was surprised the string duo were not soaked on first launch, but the last launch conformed she could ship water all over herself, well done Chaps!!!
Damn! If I lived in the UK I'd be a potential buyer. I'd like to find a complete one without rust that needs work to buy within the next year or two but who knows if that'll happen... I LOVE those machines!!
If I wasn't married I would be a potential buyer, unfortunately my wife has far more sense than me and comes up with all sorts of practical reasons why not to buy it,things like, where are you going to keep it and we need a new kitchen.
@@NUTTER8291yep or find a lass that’s into such things as you are ..mine loves rally cars .artics .and all sorts of stuff like this ..they are around 😂👍
I live in central London for my sins, I'm pretty sure that stolly would be ULEZ exempt, can you please give it to me for free, just think of it as a slap round Khans face!!
I believe this to be the finest example on RU-vid of sustantial merit when applied to the human condition. If only I could have been there in person to witness the immense humanity of it all. My God, what an epic event. Songs will be written. Thanks for the video.
I’ve never committed to anything in my life more than you cats committed to the fiddle playing bit. The fiddles in turn provided a solid fifteen minutes of entertainment. RIP fiddles.
This brings a whole new dimension to the term f***ing about! I just hope that Captain Bum wash, seaman Stains and, Rodger the cabin boy, survived to tell the tale! Absolutely brilliant guys. 🚣♂️👍🤣.
When the Stalwart first came to our screens i thought “Nah, that will never run!” Well it goes but can’t get out of a modest slippery slope, a fat lot of good in a South East Asian Mangrove Swamp while under enemy fire! At least it got a good wash.
Dear Joseph, The Alvis Stalwart (Stolly) must have been an outstanding army vehicle in the period it was in service The way in which you tested Stolly was hilarious to see, so thank you very much for sharing this vlog. I look forward to the next one and send you love from the Netherlands
Hats off for the full send on the first try👍👌🤣. I was waiting for it to hit the first mud, stop dead and eject ever one😆. I could almost smell that rank mud from here as well🤢🤢.
I was taking a swig of tea when you threw the fire extinguisher at the exhaust i snorted tea out of my nose laughing so thanks for that lol. Keep up the good work!
Some how Joe and his “ operatives “ remind me of the film “ money pit “ , looks chaotic but always manages the get the job done! Or maybe it’s just me!!
So Jack's away (hope he's getting better, best wishes Jack), and this is what happens!. Much fun all round though the lads in the pond get my sympathy, I imagine looking at that mucky water it'll take a week of scrubbing to get clean and odour free. Kudos to the Stolly, even with only 4 wheel drive it made a decent account of itself and all with restricted power. Fantastic half hour of fun as usual. Look forward to seeing future updates
8 grand? Surely that’s a fuggin bargain. Shame it’s not staying on the fleet a bit longer as it’s an epic old turd. Really love that old bus. Also nearly pissed myself when joe lobbed an extinguisher at the fire 😂
What a hoot! Definitely a whiff of Whistlin Diesel in just the right measure here. All the fun without 100% destruction. If you'd ran lower tyre pressures it might have done even better as a mere 4x6. But brilliant to see it hooning around so soon after being dragged on to the recovery truck.
'Brilliant' looks like everyone had a great time getting involved, some up to their necks in it! A sort of 'sheep dip' for the testing of .. 😉 .. 😂 .. 👍 Thanks for sharing 😉 .. 👍 .. atvb t .
absolutley shows how bloody good those B series engines were, some think you mad, me included, but you do have fun and you do repair and preserve 'stuff' that would other wise rot away to oblivion
Wanted a Stolly since being a kid. Always said if I ever win the lottery I'm buying land and opening an off-road site where anything like this is absolutely welcome. Loved this video, nothing like messing about in the mud 😂
The best channel on YT.. top quality ... The engine sounds pretty sweet .. And the fuckwittery is top notch... You Bloke need to get an old gen 1 BTR 60...
Wait, what. Stolly content incoming. I seem to remember a telly show with people like John Noakes and Valerie Singleton racing those things in a rally like time trial. Anyone else not senile remember that?
Do you see why the Russians never attacked us in the seventies? With a whole army of these to overcome they just died laughing! It was hard work going on exercise in those days but the egg banjos were good!
looks like you had a good time - I would have gotten the BARV out to give it a real test - looks like the middle axles on the STOLLY not working because it not giving drive
I remember seeing these in action in the 90's at awdc events. They are truly crazy machines that sound amazing. Great vid. Fixing the centre axle would be nice too.
All things considered I think it did really well!. Hardly any tread on those tyres!. Tell you what, bung a new set of tyres on, fix up the holes n drive issues, you got a deal! Assuming shipping to Melbourne Aus included? 🤣 Great laugh!. Nuff said!. 🤣
Great video Joe, if the pond was deeper it would have been different. Full marks to Adam, I hope you all fully appreciate his willingness to wade in that 'water!' 🫡👍👏😃👏👍🫡
You'd make a great dictator IMO. Switch the hat out, but the too-tight jacket and non-matching other outfit parts really help you pull off the despot look.
That was the funniest video you've done so far. I know on Stalwarts the center wheels can become out of sync with the front and rear and the Army solution was to drive over railway sleepers or steep kerbs. Hopefully someone can explain this a bit better than me, Great Video.
