From the concert film "Across this Land with Stompin Tom Connors" (1973)
He is known for many classic hits,
including "Bud The Spud" "Ben In The Pen"
"Margo's Cargo" "Sudbury Saturday Night"
"The Hockey Song" "Luke's Guitar" "The Ketchup Song"
and many more!
Stompin' Tom combines the sound of
traditional country western music,
with Canadian folk music.
A very unique blend!

I hope most people, whether they be fans or not of Tom or this genre of music, can at least recognize this man sits at the same table with the Cash's, Conway's and Chet's of his generation. It matters not that his fanbase predominantly lives north of the 49th; Tom Connors is a legend in my book!

Pretty sure most of his fanbase is south of the 49th. (Toronto is well south of the 44th.)

Tom loved Canada with all his heart, yet our government never gave him a state funeral. About the same time Tom died, our finance minister Jim Flaherty (brilliant, and a gentleman who was in office for 8 years) , received a state funeral, yet Tom, ( who was an integral part of our Canadian identity for 49 years) did not, despite the protests of many. As Canadians, we should be embarrassed by those elevate politicians (no matter how qualified) above all others who love our country.

That’s exactly how Tom would’ve wanted it. He turned down a Juno. He also told the CBC to pound sand. He loved Canada.

Rode a lot of these in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Tom’s ditty brought a lot of memories back. Thanks a lot for posting, from a longtime transit fan, who was in his mid-20s, back in the 1950s, when the Red Rockets were the standard streetcar.

About 10 years ago I was on restored PCC 4500 on the Harbourfront line. I was right behind the driver; behind me a little girl was squawling. I sang this song to her, she quieted down - much to the amazement of her parents and the driver!

Imagine getting on a street car and being welcomed by Tom Connors, only to find out that the car's full because he's hauling another big load of potatoes.

When I first moved downtown you could still get one of these streetcars. They were roomy and I believe they were called 'convention cars' because they conformed to the specifications laid-out by a streetcar design convention. 'Stompin 'Tom was about as famous and loved as those old streetcars.

As a kid growing up in the 70's with asthma and family that smoked, yeah, it was tough. However, even with all that, I have never been a militant anti-smoker. I *have* tried to get one friend to quit, because he only took it up within the past decade for all the *WRONG* reasons - anxiety brought on by his friends and family - but that's about it.
