Shelton Benjamin breaks down how he came up with idea of dyeing his hair blond, leading him to becoming 'The Gold Standard' #wwe #wrestling #sheltonbenjamin
@DiorShiesty like the guy said Vince, and think they had given up on the brand by then. I think it only lasted another year maybe after he came on the show...
I wasn't watching wwe during Shelton's prime because I was too young and my parents felt it was overtly violent-- I have to ask though, is it true that his mic skills were horrendous and that's why he never broke the glass ceiling? Bc that's what I was told, and if that is the case then why didn't they put him with someone like Paul Heyman or MVP way sooner?
@@TheJpiscool he was very mid on the mic. I never understood why they never put a manager type figure with him either. The dude is an amazing wrestler but unfortunately you have to be decent on the mic too in order to truly get over.
@@JustinCredible2452 But to be fair, talent like Brock Lesnar and early Roman Reigns prove that wrong. Roman is great now don't get me wrong, but he was greener than algae when he first got the top spot, and later he got put with Heyman and that's what REALLY got him over. I feel like Shelton could have easily been wwe champ with a good manager. Easily.
@@TheJpiscool that's true. Brock was just a bad ass and Roman had "the look". I just don't know why it didn't happen with Shelton. I feel Chad Gable is in the same boat.
@mundial200 they should have given him a good mouthpiece. Maybe turn Teddy Long heel and have him manager. I could also see him being in a stable with Lesnar and Paul Heyman.
This guy deserved to be multiple time would champion But they racist fucker Vince could never let black man be the champion. He did the same to Booker T
ALOT of great wrestlers had/have bad mic skills, their actions carry the talent. RVD, Jeff Hardy, shit even Rey to this day doesn’t sound believable, so it shouldn’t be an excuse. Shelton ended up molding the athletic standard WWE holds itself to now

@@airfixx_8952He had the Gold Standard monicker and the artistic direction (titantron, attire, a few catchphrase moments) to go with it, he had a gimmick.
Shelton Benjamin vs Punk at fuggin Mania for the ecw title would’ve been a match that people still talked about because of how great it was to this day
Shelton and Shawn's match on Raw is easily one of the top non ppv match's ever. That super kick he hit Shelton with off the springboard will forever be in my memories. 🎉
This guy was the real deal, an in life bad ass, freaky athletic, had the look and was alright on the mic. Definitely had the potential to have atleast 1 top belt run, but he definitely should have been a high-mid carder and had like 5 ic or US title reigns
If Shelton is guilty of anything, it's loving the business too much. He was way too happy to be in that ring. Had he been fired up and ticked off in order to adopt a Stone Cold-esque character, everyone would've seen right through it because that's not who he is. Talent for days and the powers that be seldom let him climb past the midcard but the true fans know Shelton is a real one.

It's sad that the WWE did not push Benjamin the way he deserved to be pushed that man was amazing in the ring watching his matches there was no way that this guy was supposed to be a mid card wrestler 😢😢 I hate how the WWE wastes some of their Best talent.. Ind ring the guy could do anything
It also suck how Shelton and Brock Lesnar started together the same level and quality, and as a tag team also, they both from same college who also wrestled there but idk why out of a sudden, Brock got a straight up push for the main title, with a damn good manager but Shelton was just left all alone fighting midcards.
@@munimmisbah2180Vince likes big Strong White boys. He's been stuck on that mindset and that's why when he gets less control, there's a wider variety of wrestlers that come along.
Let's keep this real... I'm a huge wrestling fan but can the rock outperform Shelton Benjamin in the ring athletically moveset wise?????..... They push who they want to push and it's sad The Rock got the big push eventually.... ... I appreciate y'all commenting on the thread... It's nice to interact with other wrestling supporters and fans
How is this man not a trainer for wwe ? If the future generations were taught by him there’s no telling how far they could go . the performance center works wonders look at kelani Jordan I believe since Shelton has been there done that he could give athletes a leg up under shelton even the worst wrestler would still be an elite athlete no doubt about it
What's interesting is that Shelton did become a gold standard in another way: before you had Kofi Kingston and his yearly Royal Rumble stunts to avoid elimination, you had Shelton Benjamin preforming *never before seen moves and stunts in the Money in the Bank ladder matches. Shelton Benjamin pioneered moves so unique to the match, that they became standard features in WWE video games for many years afterward. This distinction alone I feel is a clincher for Shelton Benjamin as a future inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame. The man helped pioneer both a match that would become not only a yearly match at Wrestlemania (and then go on to become its own Pay-per-view), but also create a move/skill set for the company's gaming franchise. *never before seen...the WWE at least, I don't know about elsewhere, but I'd like to think Benjamin was the first, the originator.
A few years later doing something like dying your hair on the fly wouldn’t be seen as a risk to advance your career, but a risk that would piss off management for changing your likeness (ie, WWE’s copyright) without their permission. Even when Shelton did this he might have just got lucky that it didn’t kill his career in WWE.
@@2muchReality7ven It's the way people in power justify not giving opportunities. Creative had nothing for Shelton even though it's their job to have something for everyone. They dismiss it saying "it's up to you to grab the brass ring. You can't sit around waiting for creative to create something for you. Talent takes initiative and gets themselves over i.e. Zach Ryder, and then get punished because "how dare you try to create something from nothing." I often read complaints that Shelton wasn't good on the mic. That's why you give him a mouthpiece. Or give him more time to practice so that he gets better.
@tdylan Exactly. You try to tell folks this but they only regurgitate what they here only see face value. Instead, you let him talk once every blue moon and have him lose a substantial amount of matches, even as U.S champion. If WWE wanted to try, they would have tried.
Shelton Benjamin is one of the most underrated wrestlers of the past thirty years. Such talent, athleticism and ability to captivate an audience, especially in ladder matches.
I believe that’s what they were aiming for, because when Shelton first got to Ecw , his promos hinted at going for the title . He should’ve at least won MITB once
I met Sheldon at comic con MS he was hiding from Ruc Flair but when I seen him I yelled "Sheldon what up dawg" and blew his cover then whole crowd screamed Sheldon!!!!
Glad I got to grow up and watch all these greats back in the attitude era with my grandpa man you had to be there every Monday night every Friday night hell TNA as well in Thursday night also
I think he may have gotten labelled as one of the guys that can make other guys look really good i.e the super kick from HBK, or all his incredible TLC spots. I really think that type of thing helped to hurt him. Instead of making him a main event guy, keep him as the guy that the fans can get excited to see do amazing feats in TLC matches. If he gets injured doing them, you still have your main event guys. I think that in part he was a victim of being too good, so they kept him where he was. Had the ECW brand been managed better, he may have been able to break out after having success there.
Shelton Benjamin is clearly one of the most underrated wrestlers in the business. Heck, him and Brock Lesner were teammates at the University of Minnesota, and they tore it up in college
This dude elevated anyone he got in there with. I watch his match with Shawn Michaels once a year, and it doesn't disappoint - one of the best matches ever on RAW, and I'm confident saying that not having watched in about 20 years.
