Stone in Love, Journey, PPL Center; Allentown, PA April 16th, 2016; Spring US Tour; Double Headliner Tour with Journey; Return of original drummer Steve Smith on this Tour
Stone in Love has among the greatest guitar solos of all time. Even with that said, the intro, holy shit! He takes the solo and reimagines it to introduce the song.
I still think they sound pretty fucking good. Let's face it no one will ever replace the legendary Steve Perry but I do think Arnel is about as good as you're going to get as a replacement.
I like both singers, Steve and Arnel, Steve left the band for personal reasons that I respect, Arnel helped resurrect Journey and make it an international band.
@@jdgolf499 You are obviously the expert that I wish I was. Where did they tour internationally before Arnel? Did they go to the Philippines? Thank saw Journey in the Cotton Bowls Texas Jam in Dallas, Texas, Steve Perry was the Lead Singer, everyone in the Band was very young and Hansom, I’m still feeling good about that, I like Steve Perry, but he moved on. There were a few lead singers after Steve Perry departed Journey, but Arnel made relevant again.
@@williefufu2985 They were huge in Japan as far back as the late 70's and toured there almost every year. By the early 80's, they were regularly touring Germany and England, while also doing shows in other European countries. As for Steve, he was actually the 3rd singer. Gregg Rollie was first, followed by Robert Fleischman. Steve arrived about 4 years after they formed, but was obviously by far the best. Yes, Arnel is a good copy for Steve, but they are nothing more than a cover band now. How many songs have been on the charts since Steve left? None. So, yes, I guess I am more of an expert. But maybe it's because I lived through those times!
Thanks for sharing your nicely taken video of Journey..I love it ! AP is the real deal! Excellent singer in his own rite..AP got that tenor, awesome raspy voice, the young looks ( on his 50--but looks like 20years younger !! ). unbelievable energy and great stage presence !. He has brought true and NEW life back to the band that was certain floundering when SP left !! He saved Journey --- as if NO Journey band is around doing shows/concerts-- the song dies along with the band as it happened to other popular bands around !! AP is not trying to be SP--- but he has to do his work as required when he was recruited --to sing exactly the Journey songs--to continue its legacy for years---and he did !! Journey rocks!!! Can't wait to see Journey Concert again, SOON ! ###### Note: If the line appears on top of my comments above, it is NOT my intention= I got a problem with my computer lately..
I cannot believe this guy ( Neil Schonn) started playing with Santana...do you know how hard it is playing that music? At 13 yrs of age!!!! Mario would pick him up from school in the am to rehearse. That is unreal..shred...with the best of em
I'm back here in Oct 2022. Incredible guitar work there; the whole band is mesmerising to watch. I missed them when they had a tour in Europe before. I am late to the party I guess haha. But I love all their videos and music with Arnel Pineda with the most inspirational career and life story. They meant to work together, the chemistry between them is awesome!! Deen Castronovo is back with them.
I think AP should rest for at least a year to see if the voice will replenish the way it used to be when he enters Journey. AP here is almost 50 yrs old.
They look and sound great. Steve Smith is such a great fit! I love how he looked "in the zone" a number of times. :) Thanks for posting this, Steve Easton.
now THAT was a long intro...Smith is back and playing great! Not sure what Neil is thinking w/t 1974 intro thing...this is a Journey audience...pop rock wanting their fix! Neil really plays the notes from record...keep the same tone...this I respect and he does it better than most. Smith isn't 30 anymore...his rock feel/approach has totally changed over the years...as long as he plays HIS parts we're all good!
+Jeff Porcaro Groove Man, what I wouldn't give to hear the bell of a 24" Ping ride in the chorus(es) in this tune. Those cymbals he's using are almost "too good"...lol.
oh shit, typed-in stone in love and yt took me here... what a tragedy...no-fear, just jumped-back in my 1983 time machine and took the "real" Journey back to where I need to be...
Singer is grest, good for him, Neil still shreds, band is great, great memories from the 80's I know what a blue jeans girl is, I have many great memories rolling in the grass, xo, lisa, heather, kay, and anyone not mentioned, I still love ya...xo
Ok, let's face it. The voice, Steve Perry, will always be remembered as the lead singer in Journey. But... he's no longer available & Journey is still performing & making tons of money. Arnel Pineda is doing something right. Neal Schon will always kick ass though.
You've been playing the guitar for a 1000 years and it shows in your face. Anyone thats been playing as long as you should be better, don't you think?!!!!!
this poor guy looks exhausted to me.. burning him out just like they did to Steve.. so sad. his voice sounds like it is breaking and he is struggling.. so did steve after years of touring.. so so sad.. now they will have no voice at all. thats the price of stardom.
You know what they should do, I don't think they should totally eliminate Arnel, but for a guy, these songs are vocally challenging, and to do them one right after another, unless you are a young man super rock and roll tenor, well, you are going to have a rough time of it if you have to do 3 hrs straight. They should get the new guy, who ever he would be, and tag team them, you know, "Arnel, you do the first song or two, then the new guy does the next one", or even have a signal process so that if one of them is on the verge of having to tap out, even if it's in the middle of a song, the other is ready to jump in there. Having said that, I bet Phil X could easily jump in there (if he would even want to), if the band can deal with his unique personality and his "I'm currently on 5 lines of cocaine" energy level without even doing any, hahaha! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-59m6BoEVkng.html
When every band team member is showing tiredness, come on they need rest and will perform outstanding again later. Sound and light folks too. I miss Steve Perry.
Interesting to see that they've brought in someone to handle Deen's vocal parts. And he seems to be a great singer as well, not that you'd expect anything less of course.
prior to AP's tour with Journey Band, he has been doing his own concerts, he started having singing engage in the Philippines, and then Canada before joining his band, Journey, so he was singing non-stop. this was reason enough. thing is, the vocals can stand as much as it could but too much is too much....
Journey had so many great songs, but I honestly wish I could go back and not have seen them a few years back, with heart and cheap trick, the kid sounds great ..a lot like Perry. I honestly enjoyed heart much more than them .
the difference in Arnell and Steve is because Steve is singing about his life experiences. Arnell is not singing about what he lived so there is no heartin it. When you watch Steve sing this song you can hear the feeling in his voice like he is reliving a moment he experienced from his pat. Arnell tries to put his heart in it but its all for the money. please, please, please retire Neal you are not a natural born leader.Journey may have been your idea but its Steves work and singing that made it the success it eventually became.Neal you would have fizzled out and went away and been forgotten if Steve had not been discovered. Truth hurts but we can't all be winners.
For me, No S.P. = no Journey. It’s silly to have these great musicians who recorded together for so much timeless music united on stage with a permanent imposter. Yes, I have seen them live both with & without Perry. No comparison.
Steve Augeri may not have sounded exactly like Perry, but at least he stood shoulder to shoulder in terms of musical status - he was his own artiste. Sadly Augeri had health issues. Arnel is credible, but you just can tell that he is just a hired hand.
I would have been pissed if I paid for tickets to this show ..Arnel is spent! Time for Neal to either get Perry back on board or its time to hit You Tube again.
@@miked9000 You literally used the worst source possible for that answer. Bathroom stalls are more credible than answers.com. A 7 year old with no knowledge of who Neal Schon is can write something as the answer.
Those are tough songs to do; even Steve Perry has trouble with them these days and sings several of the old songs in a different key. I don't think Arnell is losing his voice, but his working range is probably getting lower. Happens to all of us.
Yes.. those songs are so hard to sing.. The guy is almost 50 that is why I laugh when fans say bring Steve back. Steve is almost 70 he cannot sing these songs live anymore with enough power to tour. Fans are too much. This kid has done a great job but perhaps time for Journey to call it quits. They have had a great ride.
Well, quickest greedy haunches hump of this sweet kid's vocal cords into gravely, take the low F# path to hell ever. Dude was rocking for a couple years. Now, he sounds rode hard and put away wet. Schon's butching up with some updated 1990's Vai rips it seems.
