He’s the only one who tells it like it is with pure passion and doesn’t sugar coat it. Some people need a kick in the pants and no one else sticks it to them like he does. George is getting close.
@@unfairsanic5089 that luxury car is putting them into debt there is nothing wrong with buying a good used suv like Toyota or a Nissan my husband and I bought a very good used 2013 infinity jx 35 suv which is almost paid off now payments is $300 a month my husband paid $500 a month why get into debt and stay there that is most stupidest thing I ever heard of smh
No one’s car payment is more than their rent. No one qualifies for a $1k monthly car payment without making like $200k+++. The people making $200k aren’t the same people paying $600 for rent. Dave’s show and RU-vid commenters are all about looking for outrage where there isn’t any.
My mom brought her lunch to work everyday while her coworkers went out to eat and had their diet sodas. They always wondered why she could afford to take us on nice yearly vacations. They became very overweight as well. Near retirement, my dad drove a paid-for 15 y/o minivan to work and his colleagues would tease him about it. They didn't realize he had a paid-for Mercedes coupe as a weekend car until the minivan was at the shop and he had to use it.
People are superficial and only believe what they see in front of them. You could tell them you are broke and in debt and be driving a high end mercedes and they still wouldn't believe it
why the hate on diet sodas? I bring my lunch from home and my diet sodas too (that I purchase in bulk when on sale). Also if I had a nice paid off car, I'd damn sure be driving it more than on the weekends lol (well actually I do)
My pediatrician lived 17 miles from the hospital and rode his bike to/from work everyday. Not only was he the epitome of good health, but didn't care about status. Now that I'm an adult I was so happy he was my doctor because I now understand.
I’m still driving my “Dave car” - the 2006 car I bought on Craigslist for $6k cash in May 2016 when I was going my debt snowball. I have been debt free for six years now. I understand the rant. Telling people they are “forced” to buy expensive vehicles they can’t afford is simply a lie.
I started listening to Dave when i was 17 and bought a 2003 toyota camry cash. 21 now and i'm on baby step four moving into my own place next month. Anytime i think about getting a new car all it takes is watching one dave ramsey video and my sense comes back.
Impressive, wish I was smarter at such an early age! If you continue to be 'weird' as Dave says, you will certainly win with your finances. Hope other young people are inspired by your approach and discipline.
I love it when my coworkers give me a confused look when they ask how I can afford a house and i tell them I don't have a $500 car payment. My old truck that I paid cash for gets me from point a to point b and I don't have to worry about repossession.
Every time I go to a Target, Walmart, shopping center the parking lots look like new car dealer ships. I am still driving my 2007 vehicle and just got a whole lot of adequate maintenance.
Vehicles provide NO rate of return. They depreciate starting immediately. There's NO benefit in choosing to keep yourself in debt with auto loans! Thanks for sharing your story Dave, maybe people will learn that their identity isn't in vehicle debt. Earn the $$ first! Living life without the burden of debt and interest payments provides FREEDOM.
Thank God for those who DO buy these cars, then get into trouble and sell them to people with cash. Buying a 1-2 year old car, taking to a good detailer, then driving it til the wheels come off is the best way to go.
What if, in my case, my family needs a larger vehicle due to my family growing, but with this climate vans 3-4 years old with 40-70k miles cost 6k less than a brand new one. We view this as a long term investment to be with us till it dies, and want to pay cash. Bad move? I dont plan to sell it as its paid for theoretically
I've been listening to Dave for the past 10 years. Now every time I see a really nice car or truck pull up next to me at a light I don't think about how I want one anymore. I think OMG, I can't imagine what that payment must be. I bet it's more than my mortgage. Then all of a sudden that vehicle is not too enticing anymore.
In spring 2021 we knew we were going to need a second car, and we figured $1000/month was doable, and by that I mean we saved $1000 a month for three months and bought a great little car in cash.
Back in the late 1990s I remember as a teenager seeing a car ad in the newspaper for car payments of $599 a month for like an luxury car and thinking that is a lot of money, only for the rich. Here I am at 45 in 2023 and $600 a month IS STILL a lot of money each month....and still only for the rich and fools.
He used to do it all himself... or, mostly. In 'Entreleadership,' his daughter Rachel talked about how fortunate she was that she could share her father's platform on occasion. It appears that Lampo (Dave's company) is continuing that trend with their all stars, and Dave himself is slowly stepping back.
Bought a new Toyota Tacoma Access cab in 2006 for cash and still drive it to this day. Its got a few dents and dings, a little rust on the body panels, 190K miles on the odometer, but it runs smooth and gets me where I need to go. New cars are too expensive (car loans too!) so I'm keeping my 2006 Tacoma for now.
No car Ioan, no house mortgage, no debt. Yes our house is smaller than most of our friends, but we vacation where we want when we want and pay cash for that too.
I missed Uncle Dave yelling at us! Kind of wish the other personalities would get a little bit more fiery like him. Jade seems to be pretty good at it tho.
I'd rather walk, ride a bicycle or take a bus than get a car loan. My motto is if I can't pay for it in full can't afford it, even a house! Live cheap and save for what you want tp pay for it in full!
I still have my '97 Lexus ES 300 from college. I bought it in 2006 for $5k and it had 151k miles on it. I saved up money working in the summer for it. Now it has 325k miles.
Thank You For Sharing. 👀 🤔 I always thought I was the World's Stupidest Person. Never Been To School. Never given a Education. Never Taught Any Wisdom Or Common Sense About Nothing. Educating Myself came late in life. And listening to DAVE RAMSEY.
I will say as someone that paid in cash for their truck (2016 Chevrolet Colorado bought new) I literally felt sick for about a week after writing that check 🤷
I bought a 2016 Ram ecodiesel and I will keep it until it dies. My work truck is a 2001 chevrolet s10 I still drive lol. The Ram is our family travel vehicle.
This is the same feeling I had when I wrote a check back in 2013 for 13k+ for all new HVAC - Furnace, AC, and water heater. It was pretty nice though, and a great upgrade from the ancient HVAC that was here from the 1950's and 1980's, ugh.
Oh Dave how I’ve missed you calling us stupid! But fr! When I get ready to do something stupid financially I hear your vc in my head. ❤❤❤ love this guy!
Jade and Dave together are so fun to watch. Love seeing all the personalities on this show. Always fun to watch the dynamics of each personality attacking these finance problems.
I love that Dave borrowed a car to help himself get out of debt. My dad tells me a story about a coworker who walked to work in Minnesota! We really are spoiled.
Line that stuck with me the most listening to this show was about parents that had no money for kids college cuz it's been sitting out in your driveway for 18 years
Every now and then I see a pretty suv for sale that's newer than my '06. But this one is paid for, runs like a dream and insurance is $42/month. Dave keeps me in line! Livin' large here and making strides every day.
Our old car gets us profiled too. My husband has been followed quite a ways, but we love having no car payment! Feels good to own it. Plus, the taxes are like $20 on it.
My $6000 SUV has gotten me around faithfully since I bought it in 2017! It is also great to drive and easy to get in and out of. I love it. And I had no desire to work myself into the ground to become a millionaire as I had other priorities in life. But I do live comfortably and am debt free.
I bought a 2018 6 Speed Ford Mustang GT brand new, which I know goes against Dave's teachings, but I'm older and retired early and I have a heart condition. I got one of the cars I always wanted. I paid it off at the start of 2020. I paid off my home when I sold it and used that profit to buy my new home mortgage free. I downsized for retirement. My credit cards were paid off and turned into guitar picks. I keep one active for when I travel and pay the balance in full when I return. I have mental discipline. I never carry a balance as I detested being in debt and love being debt free. People really need to weigh needs vs wants because car prices and interest are ridiculous.
I just watched my sister in law roll negative equity into a newer used truck. She’s probably 12k upside down with 800 month payments, and everyone was congratulating her on the new car….. took everything in me to bite my tongue. She’s 26 and makes less than 50k a year.
