Right!! Our natural hair loves being left alone. Especially cornrows and braids. When my hair is cornrows under my weave so that when I take it down, my hair grew 2-3 inches.🌱
I had horrible single strand knots. In my case, I needed a hearty trim. There was no way getting around it. Stretching helped, but there was a deeper lying issue. Once I cut off my damaged ends, I had way less knots. I still get them, but it is occasional. For some people, it could be the way they detangle that is cause the issue. If all else fails, seek a professional. Your hair will be easier to manage and you will retain length for faster growth.
@@kyliCatherine1 me too! not because I think she is perfect but just that most of the time yters try not to offend certain people. For me personally I cannot think of a better way to describe ssks.
But the stretching and knotting up again is what makes locs. That is why locs are definitely the best natural style for kinky hair since the hair is allowed to do what it does naturally, whether wet or dry.
Same! I always keep my hair stretched to cut down on breakage from tangling and fairy knots. My family and friends want to see me do styles with my curls since they rarely ever see them, but I'm not willing to lose tons of hair for that to happen!😬
Yes!!! I noticed this too and I've started to start wearing my hair stretched. Like this has set me back a lot. I kept on thinking I was doing something wrong and heat was the enemy. I started using heat to stretch my hair, sparingly and I noticed an improvement plus started more protective. Styling with extensions. My hair strives most with these. Hopefully I'll reach my goal of waist length ❣️ currently slightly passed armpit length when stretched but my shrinkage makes me look like I've got a twa 😂 is so extreme 😂😂😂
I notice this too. My hair when shrunk, I shed a lot. And my ends are so dry and shed little hairs when detangling. I'll be making sure to stretch my hair always.
I love wearing my hair in a puff because it's the most flattering style on me and is very convenient. But it does get so dried out and tangled. I'm determined to try keeping it in twists
I had a puff phase in the earlier years. I love puffs. For me, me hair never dried out b/c I washed my hair once a week and used the pH Stabilizing Spritz a few times a week.
Basically keep your hair moisturized, brushed (to detangle and loosen it), and braided (retain moisture and length). Never wear DRY (shrunken and demoisturized) hair as this lady said (dry hair is more prone to tangle and break). That is why African tribes put desanitized mud in their hair to grow it long and keep it silky moisturized. Also why many people moisturize and brush the hair to keep it long in many cultures... The friction of DRY hair is what causes breakage, so keep the hair moisturized ❤❤❤❤ Again, love the video! Thank you lovelies for helping me understand my hair more and happy growing!!! 😊
Nicole is absolutely right about them wash and goes causing some major knots. I now sketch my hair and no more knots, but now my hair looks and feels thinner. 😔
So how does one reduce these knots if they love wearing the hair in it's shrunken state? I have the knot issue but the whole point of me going natural is defeated by not wearing it as it grows... PLUS I'm a bit thin on overall number of follicles. It looks great free but looks, well thin, when I twist, braid or whatever. I don't want to add hair to combat this thinness but as you said.. These m*fkrs are setting back my gaining length. I'm stuck around mid back then due to number of knots I have cut or snapped off out of frustration when I wasn't near scissors I need to have a couple inches taken off to even it up.
Well, she said that "When it's wet, the water weighs it down and on a microscopic level, it reduces the friction and tangles" so I think that maybe you can wet your hair a bit when you are detangling after wearing it in a shrunken state, this may reduce the single strand knots.
@@anna.m1333 I ONLY comb my hair wet. The single strand knots come when the hair is dry. Curls tend to curl onto themselves no way around it that I know of thus the question.
Ssk also occur when hair is dry or has split ends. I had a ton but when I diligently moisturized my hair (by cowashing every 4 days and deep conditioning) they reduced significantly.
Stretching has helped me also. I also snip any ssks when I feel them. I had to unsubscribe to a hair chick that said she does not notice ssks and that they do not effect the overall health of her hair. May be true for her but we do not share the same pain.
OMG! This is my life and now all I want is to cut it all off. I am trying to decide if I want to loc my hair. At this very moment I just 2 strand twist my hair. Braiding my her is the only way I know to stretch my hair. What some other ways I can stretch my hair.
Yup. I no longer let my hair shrink completely. I figured this out some years ago when I would wear the puffs and what not. Got it to tickling my lower back, then I started blow drying my hair too often and prolonging wash days. Broke off and now I’m at bra strap length 🤦🏽♀️ Let’s try this again
I discovered this about my hair when I was doing wash n go’s and let it dry as my hair was in a fro. If I EVER kept my hair out in a fro for ONE day I would have knots all over the place by the morning and major breakage!
you don't have to! stretched hair is good for it, like she says in the video. Also, our ancestors have been stretching their hair forever with all kinds of intricate styles. There's nothing wrong with stretching your hair.
Nope, try washing in twist and conditioning in twist...then detangle each section, grease you scalp, add leave in then oil then retwist...repeat in 4 days and do a protein treatment every seven weeks. Dry hair needs more wash days... twist makes it tangle less. I've lost two years of hair being lazy with my dry ass hair. But wash time is reduced washing on twist and this is my new method...in two years, my hair will get fuller...no more letting my hair get dry because of hating wash day. My time has been reduced and the stress is finally gone
Dehydrated hair causes knots and bad tangles. Our hair is fine it is natural state. There is nothing wrong with your hair. It is mindset. Our hair shrinks for a reason.
Thanks much for this video. Can you say how I can keep my hair stretched and moisturized at the same time. How do you keep your hair moisturized ? It's a real challenge for me.
What's the best way to stretch without heat? I have a method (tbh not the greatest but it helps) but I don't really like to use a blow dryer cos all the hair flying around lol and seborrheic dermatitis
The best way I do so is by letting your hair dry about 30% of the way so it’s still majority wet but not sopping, and then I personally do braid outs (ESPECIALLY at night). You can stretch your hair with braids, twists, and/or I believe there’s a method that involves wrapping the hair around your head and clipping it under a scarf/bonnet. Each method will produce different looking curls when you undo them though! I prefer braiding at night/on days I’m not going anywhere, but everyone tends to like something a little different
