In this video I look at the new Fluent 2 design language and how it is used in Power Apps, trying to answer the question 'Should we stop designing User Interfaces, and concentrate on the User Experience instead?'

Custom themes would certainly accelerate the adoption of Fluent 2. Nowadays, companies have policies and style guides for both internal and external applications. It would be challenging to align with them when having only 6 very basic themes to choose from.

Thank you for watching and commenting - custom themes would be awesome! ☺️

When developers hear that it's from Microsoft they hate it already. When they hear that it is open source, they love it immediately despite it being full of bugs and all in all crap. 😁

99.9% of people who use Canvas Apps can't create a UI with classic controls that looks better and has better usability than a Fluent2 UI. So it's really really good, that we get the modern controls and have a somewhat consistent design language in Teams, Model Driven & Canvas Apps. But makers will still have enough work designing the UI

@@ScottDurow I think I prefer Fluent 1. This is my first time knowing about Fluent so I’m going through it to see how it works. But it’s really amazing I love the part of the documentations that helps developers meet accessibility in their Application. The reason why I like Fluent 1 now, is the UI design difference of the website. Looking forward to exploring both. Thank you so much for sharing Scott😁

Thank you very much for keeping me inform and explaining last update. Btw did you heard anything news about side dialogbox options that hosts a custom page in model driven app. Options that would delegate title and close icônes to the custom page hiding the Iframe one?

Thanks for the video, Scott. I felt so nostalgic when I saw CRM 3.0 UI. But I do not miss that time. My custom UIs looked so ugly back then. Now with FluentUI and React everything changed. I spent more time now on designing the business logic and not taking care of how the piece of functionality looks like. But obviously to style the control MDA way. I have to start playing with Fluent2 to see the differences cause there would be some for sure.

Would love to see how to transition and develop something new on top of existing design systems like Fluent 2. Like starting with it and then changing it with time. Any suggestions?

The grid is also coming to modern controls. Which is basically my most used control in the Creator Kit (detailslist). Hopefully every component in the Creator Kit will be part of the new Modern controls.

Thank you for watching! The details list is close to my heart as you know ❤️ The creator kit is a bridge between classic and modern so I would love to see a complete migration path eventually 👍 other than the Details List - is there another creator kit control that you can’t live without?! ☺️

@@ScottDurow Yes! The command bar! This kinda goes in one hand with the details list. But I also like the Breadcrumb, Pivot (but that is already replaced by the Tab list), Subway Nav and the Tag list!

Thanks Scott for making this video, absolutely fluent 2 will be a game changer as use case of same styling for all the controls will have edge of applying same kind of color and theming for every control. Love these features, definitely customers loves it.

When are we expecting Fluent 2 to be the default experience? I'd love to switch permanently, but only if it's available in GA or Preview.

A lot of my work, I use different theme for different areas of the business it makes it very easy t see if you are in the right App. My users love that and this new fluent only for themes is a big lacking. I would prefer if you only can edit it from the theme area and goes about your apps easily. Also having a unlock are you sure for the theme of one component specific is important. So screens you need a special call to action or visual warning by changing the colors from the standard in the app.
@ScottDurow

Thank you for watching and commenting 😊 I agree - per control theming is on the road map and it will be very helpful in the scenarios you describe. Also I’d like to see custom themes too.

If we turn on the new look, can we use Fluent 2 in PCF virtual control which is currently using Fluent v8? and will it break the current virtual control?

A warning for those who are going through the training materials in learn (and most other places more so than from Microsoft) The controls not only look different but also potentially have different behaviors and parameters such that you will get stymied trying to get through those steps and potentially blocked or see errors. The nice thing is you learn more fixing that than if everything worked as is but if you are new or under the gun for the time, you may want to forego this for now at least. Still it would be nice if Microsoft at least kept a pace with this on their bits perhaps with like a link to "here is the modern version " supplement notes hint hint ;-) They don't call it the bleeding edge for nothing :p Thanks!

Thank you for watching and sharing your experience ☺️ it is very useful - and I too hope that the modern controls will gain some of the capabilities of the classic controls too.

They should always come with disclaimers ... perhaps a new universal icon that implies "your cheese is being moved and copied and it may not smell the same" (yes, I am pushing the AI to its limit) ... a disclaimer in plain sight should do ;-) @@ScottDurow
