I regret doing this exercise. I went to do deadlifts after work one morning (night shift job) and I loaded the bar up as normal but I guess I was a little tired that day and went into the lift half hazardly and deadlits is an exercise that requires you to have perfect form each rep because if you don't have the perfect form for each rep very bad things can happen and that's exactly what happened, snapcity! Lower back strained really really bad and it has never been the same since and this was exactly 10yrs ago. I am stuck with this for life unfortunately.
@istuff4137
@istuff4137 Год назад
Any exercise can screw you up if you have poor technique, lack of readiness, or incorrect loading. Your injury isn't the fault of the deadlift, it's the fault of its execution.
@shahid8545
@shahid8545 Год назад
@@istuff4137 what you say is true, what your missing is that certain exercises have an undeniable high rate of injury and deadlifts are in fact one of the worst and the problem with the injury from a deadlift is that it's always a life long injury because once you snap a back there is no going back.

@@slowgainsnonstop2882 I can't remember it was a long time ago. I was 33 at the time.. before that I had been lifting 3 days a week for 7yrs. All I remember is being tired because I worked out after my nightshift work and I guess I didn't have 100% pure form for that lift.

We are probably around the same age, I have tweaked my lower back so many times over the years it’s countless. Meanwhile I’ve been weight training for 20 years now. Just because you have lower back issues doesn’t mean you shouldn’t weight train. The issue is only going to compound and get worse as you age if you don’t address the issue. At 40 years old I don’t pull from the floor anymore with a straight bar, I do loads of RDL variations, trap bar dead’s, once in a blue moon I do snatch grip dead’s from the floor but that is rare. You honestly have to found out what works for you. Barbell back squats aggravate my lower back once I go heavy, so I don’t really do them anymore. So I do loads of front squats, Goblet squats, belt squats, and SSB squats. Lifting weights is the fountain of youth!
@bodyzoasispersonaltraining9186
Using. Kettle swings correlates well into our line of work.
@LeeWeiland
@LeeWeiland Год назад
Used them with a Giveroy coach...but honestly when you're doing meathooks and flares your body becomes the kettlebell. Just unnecessary. If somebody wanted weights, I'd say get a competitive powerlifting or Olympic Lifting coach as a supplement.

Valery Fedorenko was my kb coach. 1 hand swings with 105-156 lb are the only kb lift which I can do as well as Coach Fedorenko's mom. Kb lifts were, are, based on O style so listenning to that quarter helps. I'm only using bodyweight, plus doing construction and furn moving and other odd object lifting work, so I'm here listenning to Lee these days. VF, driving a truck, still coaching some here on yt.

My first weak link on this will be the angle at which I can bend my right hand back. After Dupuytrens needle surgery I have gently stretched my hands in two planes, but conceded stretching that hand to forearm angle for some time. Heat helps, next week I'll be at Pagosa Springs stretching for 90 degrees and better, whatever I need to take back for handstands. Thx. I started working out again about 6 months ago, with just calisthenics. Couldn't manage more than 8 reps on my first set of pullups. I stopped for a while and started lifting weights, including deadlifting. My normal once per week routine was 160lbs 10reps, 6 sets. Decided to test my pullup capability and was suprised to do 12 with great form on the first set. Weights can be excellent, you just need to be careful.

Videos are great but you know personal coaching is the way to to do it right. Any where in Virginia Beach you might suggest for training?
@LeeWeiland

I'm glad you enjoy them. If you mean personal coaching as in hands on, that's false. The amount that we're able to achieve with our students BECAUSE of video is often 10x more than hands on for a number of reasons. We have a gym too and so we see both sides of the equation. Most our adults at gym utilize our online coaching in addition because it's so valuable...and archiveable.

These are good suggestions and interesting exercises to replace the deadlift, but I feel like there wasn't any legitimate research showing exactly WHY deadlifts are bad. I think you guys cherrypicked the worst videos of deadlifting too to make a point, but to give you guys credit, deadlift's are a higher-risk exercise and I personally don't feature then as a staple in my training (often use more friendly variations). But the deadlift alone isn't a bad exercise. When people load too heavy and haven't perfected their form, inevitably they will get hurt, it's just common sense. Pro-athletes not doing them makes sense because 1. they're rarely ever loading bilaterally from a bend over position 2. they'd want to train more specific and less taxing movements because the DL has a bad fatigue to stimulus ratio and they need to be fresh for practices and other training. I don't think it's fair to throw the DL into the exercise-graveyard necessarily.

Im going to try and do these and the other stuff. Im not stopping deadlifts though. I only do 105 kg, which now I've kind of found my tough to do weight, I'm gradually adding to. Work up from lighter at sets of ten, to fours sets of 5 at 105 kg. Then some back down. Deadlifts leave you feeling exultant, but yea you have to brace everything. And i lower them as controlled as going up. Have to l have neighbours underneath 😅 But l will try this stuff. Looks good even if l only get some done.
