I was so ready to see my weight come off right after my surgery with Dr. A. so I started walking 1 hour a day twice a day and find myself getting weaker and dizzy sometimes since I was consuming very little food after my stomach was sized. I reduced walking time in half yet the weight kept falling off and felt better. Few months later I increased my walking again I just celebrated my 1 year g. Sleeve anniversary, I have reached my target weight loss goal and everyone says I look fantastic and oh yes I I look amazing . Thanks Dr. A.
Even though I didn't have my surgery with you I want to thankyou because you have guided me soo much more then my doctor and surgeon in the bayarea California UCSF and General hospital
I started my journey January 2024 Talking with the doctors At 246 lbsMy surgery was on August 29th 2024 231 lbs I am now 1 week Post opp VSG Your videos are really helping me they are my go to I appreciate every word thank you
I was not able to start exercising right away because I needed a total knee replacement. I got the weight loss surgery so I could get the knee replacement. I am down 152 pounds and 8 months out from my sleeve and two days post op from the knee replacement. I am looking forward to all the things I'll be able to do once my knee heals. Cheers
This was very helpful. I'm 13 days in after gastric sleeve surgery. I was doing 10 laps around my house since I've been home. Now I see why I feel lightheaded and dizzy afterwards. I will wait after my 15 days and increase my exercise. Thanks again for this information. ❤
How r u doing now?? I had my surgery July 9th 2024 have u gone thru a spell of on your weight stalling cuz I have and it's frustrating. I do walk 30mins a day but still just fluctuate thru my day. So glad to have it done just impatient I guess with the weight slowly 🐌 coming off.
I thought I was doing something wrong because I don't have the energy to do more than my walking!!! Thank you for informing me that I didn't go through all of this for nothing!!
Great information. Thank you for confirming my thoughts and feeling. It took me almost a year to start to feel my body was ready to work out. And yes I had to keep in mind my body is different from before the surgery. Can’t lift the same weight prior to the surgery. Start out with light workouts and building up strength. People all around me trying to force me to workout but I wasn’t ready. Lost the Weight and I’m now building up the muscle. Again great video and I will continue to fallow you and your advice. 🙏🏻‼️
Walking is to be done regularly after surgery for gas removal and to heal well. No excessive excersing though until YOUR surgeon tells you it's OK. I listen only to my doctor PERIOD
I wish I saw this 2 days ago I went walking one mile was so weak and dehydrated still recovering lol Did I mention I was 4 days post op and did this. Not exercising until one month now. Good video
Omg...I'm 19 days post-op vsg. I did 1.5 miles by 4th day as well. I felt invigorated but I almost passed out 30 minutes after got home. 😢 So, scaled back to 20 minutes on walking pad with 10 minutes of standing pilates.
I've been walking since day 2 post op 😮 I don't know if it was okay because I've been fairly active even before vsg. I'm 2 and a half weeks post op now and my surgeon gave the green light to do anything and everything now even weight lifting. I wish everyone was on the same page, it's insane post op finding out EVERYONE has a different recovery and diet process. Is this normal since we all start at different weights and abilities? I guess that's been my biggest frustration after having the procedure. That being said, I appreciate your informative videos, I don't feel so lost because you have all this information available when I need it ❤
Listen, I’m in my first week of gastric bypass and I have lost 19 pounds already and the way I’m feeling right now I feel great I feel like i can do anything I go walking like two blocks and more . I’ll come back home and I feel great. I do everything normal. I just have a little gas here and there but I feel great. It’s amazing. Thank you for your video
I started walking a year before my surgery. I walked 2 days after surgery. Haven't stopped. I walk 10 hours a day at work walking. It's week 4 this Wednesday post Op
Been enjoying your content, given me a lot of information. My concern about the surgery and not being able to continue lifting like I have been for 2 years is my body is gonna take energy from all the muscles I’ve worked so hard developing. It seems hard to find info on how to exercise after surgery when you’re already active as it seems like most people getting surgery don’t exercise at all.
I've been taking BCAA & EAA supplements mixed in my morning green smoothie. You may lose a little bit but not much. Dr. A has a video or two addressing how to protect yourself from muscle loss. Please consult with your doctor about when you can start taking your additional supplements besides your regular vitamins. As I said I put all of my vitamins and supplements in my nutribullet every morning and grind them in my green smoothie. I am just a little over 2 months post-op.
Also, I am a powerlifter and I am not starting completely from the beginning like I'm stepping into the gym for the 1st time. My coaches have me lifting no more than 25 pounds and I'm using machines due to the lightheadedness that comes with having this surgery and working out. 5 sets of each machine between 25 and 50 reps per set depending on which body part I'm working. Your muscle memory will kick in so trust yourself and take your time. Remember the 1 few months it's all about safety. By the way my profession is security and I do bouncer & dignitary work as well.
@@paulavoncia Thank you for your input, I appreciate it! I’m just starting the road towards surgery. Taking a break or slowing down on working out is going to be hard, it’s a part of my routine.
Thank you, Dr. For this info. I had my surgery 1 month ago and I was thinking of going for exercise soon 😅😮 but now i know I can go do very little one. Thanks again.❤
Do you have tips or tricks for someone who has had the sleeve and who’d want to run a marathon; how would one stay energized through out; what would be the best foods to eat during the marathon?
Follow Jen! She had the sleeve and is a matharon runner www.youtube.com/@vsgathlete . But of course you'll want to discuss with the surgeon/nutritionist if you have started the process. I see my surgeon and nutritionist next month.
Dr. Alvarez, I've got PCOS, insulin resistence, acantosis and the baldness you've talked about in a few videos. I am concerned about the hair loss with the VSG. Is it possible that, after the normal hair loss caused by VSG, I get better from the alopecia? #AskDrA
Dear Dr A, I had my surgery 2 weeks ago and I've been invited to a party. I want to know if it's okay to eat oysters and take in some champagne. Please let me know. Thank you.
You need to ask your surgeon but from what I understand at 2 weeks post op you’re supposed to be transitioning to soft foods (puree not whole) and not drinking alcohol, if you eat oysters and drink alcohol you’re going to get really sick and possibly end up being hospitalized…so either skip the party or don’t touch the food and drinks, if anybody asks why you’re not eating just say you’ve already had dinner and you’re full and your alcohol tolerance is very low at the moment.
Eating solid foods to early at best will make you sick and at worst can literally unalive you, for me personally there’s not an event or person in this world worth risking it.
Why is my partner discouraging me from getting the sleeve... He is saying that it shortens our lives... Is that true... I think it's the absolute opposite. Can you clarify? I just paid my deposit and will still do it but can someone say?
Dear Dr A, I had my surgery 2 weeks ago and I've been invited to a party. I want to know if it's okay to eat oysters and take in some champagne. Please let me know. Thank you.
Come on please Dr A don't have to tell you this. You are supposed to know this already. Just two weeks post up, and you want to eat and drink Champagne? Please don't do it. Or, if you're sure, call your surgeon and ask.
I'm 2 weeks post op. My family went to a seafood restaurant, I stayed home. They also had jello shots at another event. Guess what I enjoyed my sugar free jello pops with no alcohol. In other words change your mind set.

No, it is not ok to eat oyster, and it is not ok to drink Champagne. Just two weeks post up? Please don't do it. Don't attend the party if you don't have control over the Champagne, I'm begging you. From a liquid diet, you're supposed to be on puree food.
