I love crankbait fishing Steve. Its my favorite technique. Your are so right about changing the wobble when you are not getting bit. I switch it up and it usually produces for me. Great video. I hope you are well.
I used a DT10 today after not getting a single bite on anything else. Was fishing a somewhat weedy lake with a chunk rock bottom. After several casts, I finally got comfortable letting it dig on bottom and BAM! Fish on! Now can you make a video on keeping bass hooked on trebles? Second jump, it shook loose. Lol
One thing I have done to help me with my 12' + crankbaits is throw a 5:3 reel and do exactly what you were saying slow down feel your way through the cover has increased my catch rate while reducing snags. And the right parabolic rod is critical to crankbaits and top waters. If I using treble hooks its on a parabolic rod med.hvy moderate 90% of the time
It is getting so much harder now to find reels with a gear ratio in the 5s. When I see them I try to grab some. Times have sure changed when it comes to what used to be considered high and low gear ratios.
My fish are in the deep but seem to be moving not really setting up on anything in particular. At least I haven't dialed in the bite so to speak. Found one 7# on a bomber bd8 that runs 17 to 19 ft last weekend. Can't wait to do more research
Never been any good at CB fishing, colors, shapes, sizes, are to me a whole lot more critical than my favorite way to catch ‘em which is the skirted jig, I don’t know why that is, the jig has many applications, many color spectrums, yet I’m really confident with which one it may be, it’s not like I haven’t spent time with Crank Baits either or invested in many different makes and models, I have, but for whatever reason I remain absolutely dumbfounded by them.
I really like a suspending jerkbait for that situation if the bass are in 12 ft or less of water. Otherwise I will either drop shot or use a small swimbait and count it down to depth. That is a great question!
One of my small local fisheries that I catch bunch of huge bass in. I have just recently found out that it has golden shiners. I've been fishing there sense we moved about 2 yrs ago. I knew it had bluegill, crappie, yellow perch, warmouth. & I thought shad. I was wrong their golden shiners... Any ideas how to target those bigger bass feeding on the big 7-10" shiners? I've already been fishing big glides & soft swimbaits. ??
Those are the two lures I would use for sure. If they are holding near bottom, a big crankbait can work too, but you are definitely on the right track!
@@SteveRogersOutdoors it does seem like these hold to bottom most of time! It has a very short thin slimy grass in it in areas. I will try big crank baits. I haven't because it doesn't have a lot hard bottom but it absolutely worth trying. Thanks
I still get a little nervous every time I bring one of my billed crankbaits through some slop. But it's a lot like pitching your favorite jig deep into flooded brush: you have to go where the fish are and present your bait in a way that they'll respond to.
I gotta improve my spoonbill game. I can catch with squarebills, lipless, and jerkbaits just fine but for some reason spoonbills just don't do it for me. Maybe some time using nothing but spoonbills is in order. 🤔
