Amazing video Steve. It's not often that you will get actual solid tips from a bait tips video. These were great tips and pointers although I didn't know the majority of them already the one that really was helpful for me was the statement you made about letting it fall on a slack line. That is definitely something that I needed a reminder on. I often catch myself out of position high sticking it because I'm afraid that I'm going to miss the bite going down if I let it fall on a slack line, but you're 100% right it kills the action and often times it will get kind of stuck or caught halfway instead of going down to where the fish are. I would consider myself a intermediate Jig Fisher, I really gained an incredible amount of confidence in them since last fall and since then I always have one tied on and I can say this honestly that I catch at least a couple bass on a jig every single time I go out. Just like you said you have to be around cover. Anyway again I appreciate the video and and your channel God bless have a good one and tight lines.

I love this video, the honesty and education in this video is great. I thought I needed a lot of colors starting out, and now brought my colors down to about three. It saves a lot of money keeping colors low and simple.

That will be an awesome setup! Happy birthday by the way. Jig fishing is my favorite, but it did take some time to figure out what the bites feel like. Just means you need to spend lots of time on the water. lol

Now u got me thinking, I use 20# power pro braid. I’ll have to keep that in mind if I break off to upgrade that line for the future. Good stuff Steve!

Thanks. If you've had good luck with the 20#, I'm sure your in good shape. Can't wait. Warmer weather is coming!
@LowBrowFishing
@LowBrowFishing Год назад
Those are some great tips! If could add anything it would be to use more budget-friendly jigs when you are learning how to get that bait into the thick stuff. You will break off...a lot. But that's okay! We all do. With practice, you do it less and less. But until you do, it might be best to go with some jigs that are easier on the wallet.

Question for you Steve. I mainly fish Lake of the Ozarks, where floating docks and cables are a fact of life. What would be your choice of line for fishing that type of cover? A tough mono? Fluoro? Braid? Braid with either mono or fluoro leader?
@SteveRogersOutdoors
@SteveRogersOutdoors 4 месяца назад
I have had really great luck with the fluoro. I like the Seagar InvisX. It is a super tough line. I've fished Lake of the Ozarks a lot over the years. There are a few boat docks there. Lol.

Steve I’m looking to buy a heavy rod like you mention for jig fishing but I am a spinning reel guy. What rod/reel combo do you recommend?
@SteveRogersOutdoors
@SteveRogersOutdoors Год назад
Whether it is a spinning or casting rod, you will find lots of quality ones in that $150 range and up across a lot of brands. My spinning reels are pretty much all 200 size. For a decent price point and really good quality for the dollar I am like to use the KVD series of rods and reels. Both baitcasters and spinning. The casting rod I am using a lot now is the GC5 model and is a MH.

I use a 1/4oz a lot but also use 3/8 quite a bit too. With the trailers on there it has the right amount of weight I like. Thank you for watching!

Another quick question. The lakes I mainly fish have a larger population of small mouths they eat jigs also right?
@SteveRogersOutdoors
@SteveRogersOutdoors 4 года назад
Sure do. They usually hit then more aggressively than largemouth do.

Don't use braid around wood when pitching it'll cut into the wood and break the line. Use floro around wood. Braid around grass. Rule #9 lol.
