Thank you, I have been waiting for this release forever. I just bounced over to the A24 website and bought it before I finished watching you your review. Now that I am listening to your review I am even more stoked, I have been a professional theater technician, lighting being my particular specialty, so I totally dig the stagecraft, running crew, and of course the lighting. I’ve owned the dvd for years and now I get to upgrade. Thanks again for the heads up.
I preordered this boxset about 3.5 months ago, and it still hasn't shipped. I guess A24 must've gotten overloaded with preorders! The pricetag did sting a bit, but I missed the theatrical release last fall, and was pretty bummed about that, so I was happy to pay top dollar for this release so I can recreate the experience with my home theater setup.
The original VHS and Beta cassettes were not a sell though item. I paid $100 CDN back in ‘84 for my Columbia Home Video VHS cassette, and also bought the Japanese Laserdisc with PCM audio. Look forward to seeing how the upscaled version holds up when it gets here.
The Atmos track was good but personally I prefer the DTS-HD track from the Palm Pictures BR. The new Atmos track is virtually missing certain instruments/vocals at various parts where as the DTS-HD track sounds far more balanced throughout and you can hear every instrument more clearly. If you've never heard the DTS-HD track from the Palm Pictures Bluray then this Atmos track will sound incredible. However if you are "upgrading" from the BR you may be disappointed in the audio. The video though is fantastic.
