I would say it's one of the must have items if you are using a receiver hitch. RV, trailer, bike rack ... whatever. This is the cheapest one I found on Amazon that should be like what I have: amzn.to/3hsQynM

Neat addition. I did not know about those, but apparently they are popular to reduce hitch noise. Good video.

They are great. I would have one for any receiver hitch.

Yes, I do hear that from my trailer hitch. And yes, I am going to get me one. This is great. My trailer hitch makes all kinds of noise when towing the boat. Thanks for the video.

Then yes, you need one. They work great. There are many types of these receiver clamps, but the one I linked is the kind I have.

Taking a road trip here soon and going to use this same device. Inside an SUV the noise is far worse than my truck. This is what got me thinking about this. Thanks for the video!

According to instructions you have plate installed backwards the plate curvature lays on down and on the 2 inch receiver going into the 2.5” receiver hitch .. meaning you have plate 180 degrees turned wrong! And you have plenty of room to install it correctly.
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch 10 месяцев назад
This is the way that has worked best for me, but I will try that again next time to see if it makes much deference. Thanks.

The guy above is correct, you have the plate backwards!
@geriatricginger
@geriatricginger Год назад
shouldn't the lip go to the trailer-side, not the truck-side? That makes the plate sit flat.
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch Год назад
Yes, but my hitch has a support that will not allow it to be put on that way. It will still work the way I have it, but if you can turn it around it will be better.

I have a similar set up with NO U-bolt to stop the rattling. I tow about 12k lbs and am noticing the recover hitch holes where the hitch pin is inserted start to become egg shaped from the toy hauler rocking back and forth when stopping and going. I’m going to try one of these to try to prolong the life of my receiver.
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch 2 года назад
It really helps a lot. Mine is not wallowed out, but the hitches are not perfect sized and have play in them. This gets rid of it.

Hey this helped out a ton! I just got a used 2020Silverado 2500hd and same type of hitch shank. Where did you get your hitch receiver sleeve adapter? I have been having a hard time finding one, every one I tried the pin holes don’t line up.

Isn't the plate installed backward?
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch 10 месяцев назад
Yes and no. It's not installed the way the listing on Amazon has it, but it is installed to put pressure in the right place to keep it from rattling.
@saintpaul742
@saintpaul742 10 месяцев назад
I installed it the way Amazon recommended and there is no rattling either. With your method, the force exerted by the U bolt is not perpendicular to the plate, meaning it's less efficient. In addition, there must be a reason why the plate is designed with a bend, right? Anyway, one can always fit a square peg in a whole if there is enough brute force. 😁😁😁
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch 10 месяцев назад
@@saintpaul742 I think the bend is to extend the extra space the receiver hitch makes VS the ball adapter makes.

These things don't work after 2 miles of driving. The bolts stretch and now you have more rattle.
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch Год назад
Really. Mine does great. Did you tighten it up again to see if it was going to keep stretching?
@dsmtsi
@dsmtsi Год назад
@@SeidelRanch Yes, it just gets loose and makes more noise. I have lock washers and niloj nuts and it keeps stretching.
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch Год назад
@@dsmtsi Weird. Does your hitch shaft have a lot of play inside the receiver hole? I wonder if it gets excessive load on it or movement. I have had mine loosen up some on me on long trips, but nothing major at all.
@dsmtsi
@dsmtsi Год назад
@@SeidelRanch It's only a year old , no rust so it has a lot of play. This is why I bought this device buy as others have stated it is good for a few bumps an then gets loose again. My old dodge was hitch was held in by rust alone lol
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch Год назад
@@dsmtsi I have heard hitches with a lot of play have issues with any of these because of so much movement. Mine has just enough to be annoying, but moves very little. I assume that is why I have had good luck with it.

The setup worked for me well at the time, so it was correct. If I had a simple hitch on a 2in receiver, I would have installed it like it said in the manual. My setup did no allow for that. I improvised and tested it. You do you. I will do me.
@RoadieWingZZ
@RoadieWingZZ 5 месяцев назад
Totally wrong installation. Lip goes toward smaller diameter piece, ie the stnger. You’re putting cantilevered pressure on the nuts and are asking for catastrophic failure of threads and or u-bolt legs. This is not the way to do it folks. Period.

I put the weight of a large RV on it and it seems to work fine. They do need to be tightened over time, but work great.
@williamko4751
@williamko4751 2 года назад
Sorry bud, you are all wrong. First you should use an 2.5 to 2 adapter. The clamp is not designed for what you have. It is not safe. And you should put the plate underneath, so the clamp and the hitch will not wear out fast.
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch 2 года назад
I do have a 2.5" sleeve on the 2" receiver hitch. You can see it in the video. I do agree about putting the plate on the bottom, as I state in the video, but the hitch I have for the RV does not have room. It doesn't show any signs of "wearing out" and I have use it many time and on really long trips. Do you recommend a different clap that will fit my RV hitch?
