Not even as a meme, if anyone, even a single person legitimately beat their addiction because of this game, that’s worth something

This is genuinely how therapists work with smokers. Obviously a therapist would have a more individualized plan for each client, but the advice in the game actually isn't bad. I would say if you are struggling with smoking, it actually might be worth it to give this game a shot.

ok so I’ve done the math here. Salty smokes 100 cigarettes a day, and there are usually about 20 cigarettes in a pack. So he’s buying 5 packs a day. A pack costs 1000 yen, which is 9.15 USD currently. Meaning Salty spends 45.75 USD on cigarettes a day. If we completely pretend inflation and exchange rates don’t change, and that Salty has smoked at the same rate the whole time, Salty would be spending 16,698.75 USD a year, and over 120 years have spent 2,003,850 USD on cigarettes. Also he would have smoked about 4,380,000 cigarettes in his life, or 36,500 a year. The average smoker smokes about 5572 cigarettes a year, just to put that number in perspective a bit. Salty smokes more in a year than an average smoker smokes in a lifetime.

I bought this game as a joke when I was like 12 because it cost like €1.50 and they had to get the manager over because they didn't think they could sell a smoking game to a kid but I convinced them to eventually sell it to me after showing them the age rating.

I think the game says you can continue smoking is to encourage weaning off instead of quitting cold-turkey. Based off the info available to me, quitting tends to be harder when you're entirely deprived of the nicotine that got you hooked and might end in rebound. That's why smokeless nicotine is a thing (patches, vapes, gum, etc.)
