I am on the National Do Not Call list so I have started forwarding all of my telemarketing calls to my congressman Steve Chabot. Let his office deal with these a little calls.

@skyesfury8511
@skyesfury8511 5 лет назад
@@sar7654321 That's known as "call spoofing". It's allowed by the FCC and has a legitimate use (doctors, lawyers, etc), but telemarketers and scammers are using that loophole to get around the National Do Not Call list. Why the FCC does not take action them, you'd have to ask the FCC.
@stillthepillar684
@stillthepillar684 5 лет назад
@@skyesfury8511 Why would (doctors, lawyers) need to call spoof? And they aren't spoofing to get around the "do not call list". They're operating illegally and could care less about it. They are spoofing numbers to fool people into thinking it's a local call. If you don't pick up a few times the scammers get cynical and will call you using your own number. Hoping that you will get scared and take the call seriously so they can threaten you into making some payment or another. They target people 60 and older.
@skyesfury8511
@skyesfury8511 5 лет назад
@@stillthepillar684 When a doctor calls a patient from his personal cell phone, he may not want his personal cell phone info showing on caller ID. He may want his office's number to show instead. (similar for lawyers) This is one of the intended purposes of spoofing. And yes, they are using spoofing to get around the do not call registry. Telemarketers, while annoying, rarely engage in outright illegal activities. And, until recently, there has been a loop hole that allowed them to use spoofing to get around the registry. It's not illegal, but it's numerous kinds of negative things.

I have this. It's awesome. A couple things you should know first. . . 1) Since I have 2 different kinds of phones (corded and cordless), and even tho I have this hooked up to the cordless phone base, the first call coming in will ring. If the #'s on its block list, that's the only ring you'll get. But if you ONLY have cordless, you won't hear the first ring. 2) If you answer the call and it's a spammer, press "# 2" on your CORDLESS phone during the call and it'll add the number to the list. 3) If you miss answering the call and you suspect it's spam and want to block it, you can use the CALL LIST button to scroll to the number that just called you and then press the big "BLOCK NOW" button to block that number. It works wonderfully and believe me, it's worth every penny!

Good explanation and showing the 2 ways to set it up. ( With and without the splitter. ) That might complicate things for my mother.... since I don't live with her. Probably is best just set it up without the splitter, that way... if the caller ID doesn't work on her phone, then at least the V5000 will capture the phone numbers anyway... Then if she wants to block a number she can do it manually by scrolling through the numbers.. Also she'll still be able to program the V5000 with her handset. I wish I could get the Digitone ProSeries Blocker, but they're out till this fall... So, it looks like I'll be getting this V5000 instead... It seems to be the only decent call-blocker out their now compared to everything else.. Thanks for the nice video demo, it really helps.
@Garrity9290
@Garrity9290 7 лет назад
Thanks for this video. I used a splitter and plugged the phone into one splitter line and then plugged the V5000 into the other line on the splitter. This enabled me to see the incoming call number on all my phones within the house. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video.

I bought one of these not long ago and it works great. Used to get 5-10 unwanted calls per day. Now, very rarely do I get a call. And when I do, just hit BLOCK NOW and they are gone. I love the silence now.

When you get 10 Robocalls a day like I do then this becomes a full-time job. At one time NOMOROBO blocked "spam calls", Unavailable, and many already in its system. Now the problem has gotten so bad that most even get through NOMOROBO. There is not one blocker at this time that stops most calls. I've blocked many on my AT&T cordless and if they call again they are blocked. I believe this unit max's out at 1500 calls which is nothing if you get 8-12 calls a day. That means this is good for less than a year

I have a set-up which is hopefully very annoying to nuisance callers. A Viking DVA500A which can record up to a 30 second outgoing message only. Mine plays two operator's from the 1940s asking "Are you playing withe the phone?" followed by "Your playing with the phone!" followed by the loud "Crybaby" sound.

Thu 4-11-19, the AT&T tech just left and there was a dead short in our v5000. The symptom was that it took a long time to get a dial tone - most of the time 5 seconds or longer. The tech started at the phone box outside, came inside to the terminal block and worked his way right to the callblocker. He couldn't believe our phones even worked at all. When I say 'dead short', I mean it pegged the needle on his test equipment (and of course at the end, it was an out of circuit test - isolated and all on its own).

Please keep in mind, that when you have the parallel setup the phone will ring once before you get the auto hang-up. -Parallel setup is where the call blocker is on one side of a splitter and the phones are on the other. -Inline setup is where the call blocker is between the phone and the wall.

Which is best, getting a phone with smart blocker where you can set your Accepted Numbers or this type of unit? Seems to me this unit has to receive the unwanted call first before it can be blocked.

@kwd57
@kwd57 7 лет назад
Do you mean a different hardware version or like a firmware update that can be done to your existing one? Can these be hooked up in parallel with the phone line to avoid a pass through issue or do they have to be in between the incoming line and the hone base?
@MarkNeustadt
@MarkNeustadt 7 лет назад
I don't think they can be updated. I'm not sure though. I only have one home base in my setup so the v5000 sits between the wall and the phone base. That covers all the phones in the house.

The most important thing to do is,,, forward all telemarketer calls to your congressman and senator !!
@JustLearning
@JustLearning 5 лет назад
This won't stop the calls. The calls are being done by a computer that calls thousands of numbers at the same time. It is picking numbers at random. Also the computer makes up a number for itself that is not real. Therefore you can call your congressman and senator with a number that is calling you but that is a FAKE number. All you are doing is a lot of work that will not do anything. You can have a computer call you with the same message and it will use any of a thousand numbers to identify itself. The FCC needs to do something.

Thank you for this. I don't know how or when I got on so many cold call and scam lists, but it's gotten exponentially worse over the past four months. The phone I have can block up to 250 numbers. Obviously this only helps so much. My phone also lets through some numbers that are blocked. I know because when a number is blocked, it has a specific icon on the CID showing it's been blocked. I'm pretty certain this is due to caller id spoofing. Does this know how to deal with spoofing?

Cox cable modem telephone. When connected in Series, couldn't get a dial tone for several seconds...Clicking sounds...Tech told me to connect in Parallel configuration...Worked to block calls for a while. Then, started blocking all calls...I would call our home phone number from my cell phone to test...worked one time after attempting a factory reset...Then returned to problem not accepting any call...Therefore, it's a piece of trash unless I can find a solution.

I live in the US (Wisconsin) and it works just fine. My phone service comes bundled up with my internet service, so it's not through the phone system. I had to use a splitter for a while in order to get caller ID information on my phone. The company is UK based, but all of the interactions I've had with them have been amazing. They're courteous, professional, timely and very friendly.

I don't see the point of this , you have to know the number before blocking it . Do you have a system like we do over here that allows you to see the number who is ringing you before picking up the handset as we do over here ?
@MarkNeustadt
@MarkNeustadt 7 лет назад
The system is actually from the UK. It displays the number of the caller while it's ringing. It also shows the caller id info on the phone itself. You can decide at the time whether or not to block the number. It allows you to block the number after the fact as well.
