To have zero buildup/residue with fresh aloe, run gel through a blender/food processor for a few seconds and then strain over a bowl/jar using muslin fabric/cloth (inexpensive at fabric/craft stores). It’s a woven fabric that’s tight enough to TRAP even the smallest of pieces/FIBERS while allowing ONLY the GEL to pass through which is not thick at all. I learned the hard way with loose hair. Once the hair dries, unstrained aloe will leave “pulp” and residue behind. In summary, Unstrained aloe = crusty looking hair. Strained aloe = 🙌🏾. Throw some of your fav oils in if you’re feeling jazzy. If you want the best of both worlds, do an aloe-flaxseed hybrid.

After watching Loc Crush video on making Flax seed gel, I have been using Flax seed gel for two years, no build up, no funky smell, and my Locs aren’t hard or stiff after my Locs dry. Yannie, after following you for two years and using your Loc maintenance process, my scalp and Locs are healthier and people can’t believe I only wash my Locs twice a year!!! So, thank you my sister, peace.

Flaxseed gel is good and easy to make but I always add a 1/2 to 1-teaspoon black castor oil or coconut oil and few drops of peppermint and tea tree oil depending on how much I’m making. I have even added a few drops of Orange oil for the smell. Otherwise it will stink really bad in a few days. I also keep it in the fridge and it can last a while. I take about 1/2 to 1 cup of Flaxseeds and boil in purified water but you can use what you like until it gets thick and gel like on a supervised low or medium heat occasionally stirring or will bubble over. Once it’s cooked I find it’s better to strain it when it’s warm through a cheese cloth or old pantyhose. I line a strainer with cheesecloth or pantyhose and leave a bit hanging over the edges. Set the strainer over a bowl for leverage. Pour mixture in the lined strainer. Grab the sides of all hanging edges forming a ball. You want to squeeze all the gel out leaving behind the flaxseeds. Mix in any oils at this point. Store in a jar.

Yes exactly every stage is beautiful and 100 you. My daughter has sooooo much hair and was starting to grow into a young lady and still had never had a hair cut, 4c hair and she wanted more time for herself and less time detangling and sitting for hundreds of hours doing hair. She has so much hair doing it herself as she grows is not an option either. I wanted her to know how beautiful she is as she's growing and changing into a young lady, so we embraced her beautiful full head of hair and put it in locs. She can have pony tails and style her hair herself. It's not too much for a growing girl to keep up with for chair time. It suits her personality... She's so cute with her glasses and locs in buns and her nose in a book 💛

I regretted buying the Jamaican mango and lime wax in my hair. Got a ridiculous buildup and huge flakes. It made my scalp itch alot as well. I have also tried eco styler gel, the yellow with the red cover. Got buildup but not too much. I have decided to go back to my oils and retwist with a crotchet needle but will use the homemade flaxseed as well. Used it before I locd .... Lol frustrated but hanging on. Thank you for your video

I just started using aleo vera with my locs and I was extremely impressed by it. I retwist my hair because the interlocking method is something I am unable to do on my own. Overall, aloe vera is great on my hair. It doesn't leave it stiff or flaky. It actually smells really good on my hair. Idk. I'll try flaxseed one day to compare.

I palm my daughters hair once a month sometimes only every two months it depends. Her edges after 18 months have not locked but her others have, so I was trying to keep up with the edges, about 2-3 inches at her neck and ears. So this week I twisted her edges and wrapped them individually and will leave them for a month. Then maybe rewrap them for another month. It's only a few. She just sweats them out before they can keep. So I hope this works for now. The ready if her hair seems good. We started a tad small but have joined some together. She has so much hair I didn't want them too big for her. Mostly medium sized now and a few smaller ones towards the front. Her hair is too thick to ever be in one of ponytail so I sectioned her locs so it's easy for her to put up in different sections, half styles and parts. She's even done a few months of swim too and they seem just fine.

I had started my locs about a year and a half, wish I knew you a little bit more then. My main issue was the size of my locs, I started then too small. I wanted to be able to do more but loved the look of medium to big locs. I'm currently in the process of taking my locs down, because I was having a hard time maintaining my hair without ripping locs or interlocking my locs together. I'll hopefully restart my journey. Thanks for keeping us educated, love.

For me the best things I've used in my locs are Vatika dabur hairstyling cream, monoi oil edge control, olive oil edge control and Sheen Carson styling wax....those are the best I've used and I experienced no build ups at all! Totally recommend.

So you know how when you take a shower you need lotion because you get ashy? it’s because you wash your whole body of it’s natural oils Hair is the same way, some people don’t need too but you probably need to condition after washing and oil it Because after washing you wash out all the natural oils or any oils you put in your locs before so now you must oil again after washing but not to much but in your case if it’s that soon you may need to oil more then Others Ik I can go weeks without oil and washing them

I have starter locs and I had them for about 4 maybe 5 months… I actually starred my locs as freeforms and they still kinda are however I just recently tried a new loc look so I put locking gel with Moringa oil & manuka Honey in it . The first couple of days was fine but I’ll say about a week later my scalp started to feel very irritated. My scalp became very itchy and was even burning so I washed my hair and after washing my hair my scalp became worse so I washed it again using a different shampoo and also conditioner then I put hair olive oil in my hair. That didn’t work so I added some hair oil to my scalp which was yesterday, so when I applied the oil to my scalp it started feeling better but I still had a tiny bit of irritation. So today is the next day and my scalp is started to feel itchy and even burning a bit again, my scalp is also sore. Any suggestions?😕

You can try a bentonite clay mask to detox your scalp. Since your scalp was soothed with that oil mix some in with the clay mixture as well. That may help, just make sure when mixing don't use a metal tool and rinse well.
