If you are buying tea cheap and not even checking what material they are made from then switching to loose leaf will not help you. Ground up house plants come in loose leaf too.
I usually go for ceylon cinnamon sticks or chopping fresh ginger with lemon juice to make ginger lemon tea or cinnamon tea. I just boil the ingredients in a pot and strain.
I'm a tea grower and tea maker in the US. What he says about bags is true and they should be avoided if possible. Usually, the tea in the bags is of the lowest quality as well. Also, true teas are made from a plant called Camellia sinensis, which is what he's serving here. The jasmine is merely an added flavoring; most of the character comes from the plant itself.
I believe the traditional medicinal teas brand has safe bags! I remember really looking into this a while back. you might be okay if you get that brand of tea bags (: ❤
Thank you, Bobby, for all the info you provide. I am diabetic and hypothyroid, 65 y.o., and endocrine disruptors may have contributed to these conditions. You are never too old to learn and make changes. ❤
If it's made of PAPER, it's fine to steep and drink in the bag (though there could be some glue holding the paper together at the seams so if that bothers you, then don't steep in the paper bag). If the tea bag is made of a mesh/plastic, or you are unsure, yes cut it open and put the loose tea in a stainless steel tea steeper thing to steep as normal. There are several kinds of steel tea steepers.
Great info, as usual! For my orange tea, I started baking & grinding my organic orange peels & brewing them. I don't have the $ to splurge on loose leaf tea, so I just cut my organic tea bag open & brew.
This is concerning if people don't know this, but I'm glad you are making everyone aware. Here in the UK, you can get plastic and bleach free tea bags.
@@mayanxxx8863 I didn’t start doing health conscious things in an effort to extend my life. Plenty of people smoke and drink their entire lives and live to be 90+. I started being more conscious about my health to improve my quality of life while I’m around. I don’t really care if I live to be 65 or 95, but for however long I’m around I want to be happy and healthy, not dependent on a cocktail of pharmaceuticals to keep me dragging onto the next day.
Thanks for the info. Great timing! I use both bags and loose leaf tea. Lately, the quality of tea bags has declined. I've found this over multiple brands. The bags fall apart and I end up with ruined cups of tea. As soon as all my bagged teas are used, I'm going 100% loose leaf. Btw, your daughter is adorable and so helpful. I subscribed.
Honestly Dr has revitalized my desire to inform people of these things. I’ve felt like a maniac the last 10 years because everybody thinks I’m crazy talking about all the poison they put it in everything and how something that seems good can be bad becuase or what packaging etc they use. I just want people to be aware and make better purchasing decisions because when enough of us boycott a product they WILL improve/change it to meet our standards, the problem is too many ignorant people buying crap and not knowing any better. What you spend your money on does make a difference, so spend wisely!
Wow more life-changing health information, thanks Bobby. How long have they been keeping this information from us but it puts the tea industry on its ear everyone needs to know this one there's a lot of tea drinkers out there
Have you considered what chemicals may have been sprayed on your tea plants, in what polluted soil they grew, what filthy and diseased hands prepare the tea or what corroded pipes the water you add flows through?
I love my tea infuser. Skip the chance of burning yourself or using 2 mugs and get a stainless steel tea infuser that can just be set into any teacup and can be easily removed. Thanks for the info about the toxicity of tea bags!
I like many Celestial Seasonings flavors too. I guess we could cut the teabags and dump the contents into an infuser instead, to avoid any nasty stuff. Some brands use safer teabags than others, maybe CS aren't so bad. I'll investigate to see what I can find out.
lol, no this is too hyper specific. now financial management and responsibility is what EVERYONE needs to know. this is just quality information for folks who actually make their own tea. some folks just buy tea by the jug. Gold Peak, Nestea, Lipton, Arizona and so on. so many gallon jugs of prebrewed tea. is it good for you? probably not since sweet tea kinda goes hand in hand with diabetes but I LOVE tea and I dont like steeping. anyway, my main point is that not EVERYONE drinks tea bagged or even loose leaf tea. but EVERYONE does have a financial responsibility to manage their budget. soooo yeah tea aint that important. the info is great but not so important to waste tax payer dollars on a hobby. idk, are you Brittish? now maybe they could use their taxes for Tea but for the US its not that important.
I always have unbleached paper bags, easily available in the UK like Clipper, for my Green Tea, and other herbal concoctions, and Earl Grey etc. Usually the organic brands do unbleached paper. Perhaps its different in the USA?
Thank you, Bobby, for this information. I quickly checked my tea shelf to ensure my tea bags were healthy without damaging materials. After doing some research, the majority of my tea bags are safe. I have one brand I have to throw away. In light of this information, I am now checking with the tea companies and seeing their tea bag-making process. Thanks again, Bobby for looking out for us.
@@beiget7609 it's literally the fine tea dust , the sort of thing you see at the bottom of your tea caddy. You know that fine powder? Rather then the bigger tea leaves. They put all that into the tea bags to bulk it out and it's cheaper, and the best stuff goes to the lose tea packs.
Not everyone can afford loose leaf tea that is twice the price of the other teas you get in bags. You are right, but then these things you recommend are way more expensive and unaffordable than the regular product.
Loose leaf is usually cheaper. If you are bent on being contrary, then take the tea you already buy, open the bag and put the tea leaves into the cup. Throw the bag away. And try using logic. You won't make errors like this then.
I recently switched to loose leaf for the same reason as you, Sir. Also last year bought a coffee grinder and buy whole beans. I make it on the stovetop. Cowboy coffee essentially.
I love watching your videos you save me sooooo much time because I used to review many different websites regarding food / diet / health. I am very well informed regarding our food and environment and it doesn't get any easier.
It's only the silly, see-through teabags that are made of plastic and thus release microplastics into your tea. Paper tea bags are perfectly fine. However, loose leaf tea is often higher quality than bagged and you're not paying extra for all the extra packaging. I have a big fancy loose leaf collection but sometimes I'm lazy and use Barry's in a mug.
Another reason to avoid tea bags even if it is not for health reasons is that loose leaf tea tastes way better. The difference in taste from a tea bag compared to loose leaf tea is like night and day. Get yourself a tea ball. It makes it easier to make a cup of loose leaf tea for yourself. Don't have to strain in another cup.
