We all go down the rabbit hole looking for the perfect skate. Does it exist? Maybe. Do you need to waste time and money searching for it? probably not.

When I was a kid, I had the crappiest skates, DYI slideblocks (it was quad skates), and no money. That lasted well up in my 20’ies, and in my 30’ies I didn’t skate. Now, that I’m “Back and instead of quad then Blading”, and with money to spend, I love buying nice gear. Not to be a better skater, but for the perfect fit and feel. It only makes me skate better in that I can skate longer per session, since my feet won’t hurt. Nice to have you back. 😊

Disagree with the liners. I've had so much control over my feet since switching to intuitions and I don't get the horrible foot pain of cheap liners. So I must say liners can definitely make you a better skater

I just wasted 180 € on the Intuition v2 liner - but I hope this turns out as a good invest. I skated in the USD sway stock liner last week for 3 to 4 hours and had blisters and pain on my ankle, so I'm looking forward to this upgrade. Anyway, I totally get your point: I started skating in '98 and have owned about 25 to 30 pairs of skates with multiple setups so far. I don't think the perfect setup exists. It's more about finding a good setup that fits your skating and then training, training, training. "Good" or "new" skates won't improve your skating without practicing.

As always, I love your videos and content. I think I'd only point out that equipment DOES matter, but only up to a certain point. If you are rolling around on skates from 20 years ago (Joe Atkinson doesn't count) most likely the materials and parts need updating. But if you skate a Them skate stock compared to Them with an Intuition liner and higher end wheels and frames, it won't make you skate any better. I've always been a bit too much of a blade nerd, but recently it dawned on me why so many amazing skaters like Broskow, skate the same setup for years- because they are used to their setup and that allows them to be comfortable with pushing the skating to new boundaries vs always trying to get the "perfect" setup.
@coreyenglish8706
@coreyenglish8706 2 года назад
The law of diminishing returns. This one is a tough line to draw. Gear does matter, but it’s not magic. If it improves your skating experience you gets you excited to skate more, but it. If your motivation is simply thinking “better” or expensive gear will make you better, it won’t. That was what I was really getting at with this one. I think we’re on the same page though.

Great to see you back. Sounds like you have your priorities in order! I mostly agree with what you said about gear. When I see all the new skate day posts on reddit, I cringe a little bit, until I see some actual moves. For me, Wheels seem to be the biggest thing where I noticed a difference, I guess mostly the profile and the hardness. Seems like a strange thing to matter, but that's just me.

Nice skating, really dig the hits in the bowl. In regards to gear, I would say a single, dialed (so dialed brah) into your feet, top shelf setup is a massively better value than a bunch of mid tier setups and piles of parts. Still for some the gear is part of the fun, fashion meets tinkering meets community, so if your budget allows it by all means save the industry with your disposable income.

yeah it's like they say in the audio world "it's the ear not the gear". a lof of times everyone wants the new flashy thing because everyone else is getting it and maybe it'll make them skate better, but mostly they just need to learn how to skate better. lawrence said something about that in one of his recent videos though where he said that some parts do make some things easier, and depending on your age and how far into it you want to get sometimes it's better just to get the stuff that makes it easier so you don't have to spend the time learning because you just want to have fun or you only have like an hour a week to skate or something

Great stuff as usual but I have a small advice to give. If you pause your video, first clip for example, you will notice there is something like a double vision effect on it. Deinterlace your videos properly by choosing ''progressive'' option during export and that will give you a better looking footage. Keep it up!

I was in the market for new blades and broke down and bought Impalas. It was an experiment. I wanted to see how OLD OLD school skates stacked up against new era skates. I've skated USDs, Salomons, and Xsjados. Of course, like a lot of Olderbladers, I learned on Lightning TRSs. So I got my Impalas. But I bought an extra set of wheels because the stock wheels were massive and really hard. Replaced the wheels. Took the two middle wheels out, OG style, and hit the skate park. I dug in a little pre groove just to have something to start with. Ok, so I'm doing all my grinds. No negatives though. And I was pretty happy with my old school setup for a while. But eventually I really started to get sore from doing just regular front sides. The frames on these recreational skates were just too tall. It was like trying to grind on stilts. Eventually, I started getting a lot of pain in my groin/ inner thigh. About a month ago a new friend hooked me up with a pair of Razors. Everything feels quite a bit better. I had to get used to anti-rocker. I left off with the Xsjados free style setup up. I really miss those skates. I honestly do not know what happened to them. Anyhow. Right now there isn't a cheap alternative to aggressive inline skating. Rollerblade is coming out with a new aggressive model soon. If the evolution of their top selling skate, the Zetrablade, is any indicator, we might just have a cheap quality option soon. I'm a simple man from much simpler times, but I definitely am getting older. But I definitely am on the smaller side. So what I want is minimalism. Light weight, minimalist skates. I don't even care about h-blocks. Just a flat frame with a soul area for the toe and heel area. Maybe a very simple royale plate Something like the old Chocolates just more modern. It doesn't have to be pretty. Roces seem to be more my thing but I'm told they're actually quite heavy. I've never actually held a pair so I dunno.
@coreyenglish8706

M12s are pretty light in my experience. It sounds like a 908, Cult, or m12 is what you’re looking for. Straightforward at a decent price. All solid and proven skates.

@@coreyenglish8706 Thanks, Bub. I'm on the Razors Copper Cults atm. They work pretty damn good but man I miss those Xsjados. Ooof. Those dudes were hot. I'm TOLD that the USD Shadows don't feel anything like the Xsjados. Anyhow, thanks. But man, when I say I want light weight I mean LIGHT LIGHT weight. It's kind of a bozo move but I actually got in touch with Impala about my idea. Who tf knows if they're interested? After all, they're just a goofy skateboard brand. Imagine being mesmerized with the exact same deck and wheel setup for 30 plus years. Skateboarding has gotten so boring. Lol

I see your point in a way, saying not to buy the most expensive item necessarily, but I beg to differ regarding the gear quality. I have personally noticed huge differences between skates, especially older vs newer skates (talking 20 year gap here).
@coreyenglish8706
@coreyenglish8706 2 года назад
No doubt there’s differences in quality, fit, and feel. Parts can improve the skating experience, but they won’t improve the skater. Not immediately at least. Although, a better skating experience makes you want to skate more often, which will make you a better skater.

@coreyenglish8706 2 года назад
So you should be able to fit a 41-42 shell in either boot with a thinner liner. With the aeon, you can just buy a high end model with the second skin liner and be fine. The sway, you’ll need to buy an aftermarket liner to swap into. You’ll have more room in the sway if you do this, but may be more difficult to find a liner in your size. After that, they’re both great skates. Depends if you prefer a raised heel skate, or a flat bottom skate. Hope this helps. This is always a tough thing to answer.

Without a doubt but did it make me a better skater...not so much. It allowed me to skate longer without as much wear & tear but it didn't allow me me to do anything I wasn't able to do before.
