My argument for using my thermal printer is that I never have to deal with my ink drying up I'm the cartridge, and I never have to spend 40$ on a single ink cartridge. With tape I use a low stick masking tape, and fold a triangle into it that makes it easy to peel off.

I have been an ebay seller for a while of random personal and thrifted goods but never trading cards, I have recently gotten in to pokemon as a personal hobby and after ripping many packs I am starting to sell duplicates online to fund some singles purchases and this video was THE MOST HELPFUL out of any of the 6 or 8 videos that I watched before this. Thermal printing on sticky labels is the best thing I’ve used for my eBay TCG business. Fast and never have to purchase ink. The cost is already paid for and even just black ink is outrageously expensive. Plus this takes longer too. My time is the most valuable and saving time is key. Thermal will ALWAYS be the way to go with PWE ESE. I tried it with 5 envelopes and 3 jammed the printer with the seal flaps on the envelope. This was a good thought but doesn’t work for lots of orders. Maybe this is for the person with one or two orders a week. Not 60+ a day.
@mantazz679
@mantazz679 9 месяцев назад
Really depends. I use a thermal printer too, and agree it is quite easy. Also, I don't have a dedicated envelope printer, so I would have to swap out regular 8X11 paper with envelope paper every time I wanted to print a label. Since a second printer would be required to avoid this issue, I think a thermal printer is a pretty fine solution in my case. However, I have seen extremely high volume sellers print directly to an envelope as well.
@jcgrubbs1
@jcgrubbs1 9 месяцев назад
@@mantazz679 correct but they usually purchased a very expensive printer with high printing speeds and won’t get jammed with a specific envelope. So now you’re spending extra on special envelopes, a high capacity printer, drum toner or ink or laser jet inks AND THEN tape. It’s just an over-priced hassle in my opinion. But to each their own. I prefer to look professional as well as very fast. I have a 10+ hour a day normal job and just can’t handle spending hours a day packing cards away when I do the same volume at around 25 minutes total now. Again, different volumes, products and different people may vary lol

The printer he is using could print 15,000 envelopes for 30.00 the Epson printers ink is the unbelievabley cheap. I have the same printer and I buy ink once a year. One bottle of ink gets 7,500 full size pages printed. The printer is also only 400.00 CAD.

Appreciate the insight Nick! Happy to see I am doing it pretty much the exact same way as someone that deals in your level of volume haha. I do like shipping shields just because I sell 9 card common playsets for Flesh and Blood for 2.49 a piece and all 9 perfectly fit in 1 ship shield. So if someone buys 2 sets I can fit 2 of those ship shields in a single PWE side by side and not lose on having to upgrade to a bubble mailer.

Nice video and a great idea.. to be fair thermal labels are given out for free though so the cost of them is a non issue.. this may save a slightly marginal amount of time though. I’d also say the time saving is negligible for anyone bulk printing more than like 25 labels at a time and after that a thermal will be faster anyways. At that level the speed of a regular printer is offset by the time to put a sticker on an envelope. Still an excellent video and I learned something from it I’d also suggest using card saver 1 versus regular top loaders.. they are superior in just about every way for a PWE shipper and the cost is negligible in bulk

Very informative and impressive video! Only thing i would have liked to see was how you placed the cards inside of the envelope. So do you wrap in the cards in a paper package slip? or are they just loose inside the envelope. Also curious how you fold the paper if you do insert a package slip. Also if you use tape on the inside of the envelope to secure the cards from movement or any tape on the outside of the envelope. I know how i handle the shipments but i feel like theres always room for improvement on my end. Also my printer does not allow me to print directly on the envelopes its a high end printer so im surprised it doesnt work but every time i have attempted it the envelopes dont load properly and it ends up consuming way more time then its worth compared to the saving on labels.

Self sealing A4 kraft brown envelopes because they are sturdier and smaller so when you pair with Card Saver I you don't have to tape anything down and you don't need to sandwhich the card because A4 kraft brown envelope is more rigid. Single card or cards go into individual penny sleeve. Up to 3 sleeved cards into Card Saver I put in the self sealing A4 envelope and put 4x6 thermal label on the envelope along with "Please Do Not Bend" sticker ....when you buy the supplies in bulk it cost .17 cents for each order of 1 card

I figure why not throw my $.02 in haha. I print 100 labels with a dymo at a time including the ebay standard envelope ones. All labels will print on the same 4x6 label(cost is right at $.02 a label). You can also work while the labels are printing since they are connected and self-roll. You can place the label itself over the pull strip on the envelope to save extra time on having to tape that. For $.02, even if the inkjet is free I think you gain the extra amount in time saved. Printing through bulk shipping also auto-detects combining orders which can save time plus money if you are missing it by manually printing. It also adds the tracking for you for combined shipments - another manual operation that you do not have to do. I know you are the expert for shipping raw singles so I may be assuming things here with the bulk shipping compatibility or how you package the envelope itself. *** I also have a beef against inkjet - those things were always a hassle for me. I only keep a laserjet for full page print outs *** It is cool to see it printed right on the envelope though, I have not tried that myself.
@OldSkoolPokemon
@OldSkoolPokemon Год назад
Your arguments against my far superior method are weak-at-best Rusty! Haha I'll give you the fact that you do have to separate ESE Orders from Regular Orders before bulk-printing and occasionally remove printed ESE's / add new PWE's during printing. However, with this method, I'm still using the bulk-shipping option (tracking info. automatically applied to each order and auto-detecting combined shipments). Really, the only steps that I'm eliminating (which I feel makes this beneficial) are the cost of thermal labels and extra time to place thermal label onto PWE. I'm saving a bit not having to pay for thermal label and then saving time only having to seal envelope with the pull-strip vs. placing label onto PWE and then sealing PWE. I guess this is more beneficial at a larger-scale though because if you're only printing a few ESE Orders everyday; it would kind of be a pain having to use both printers where you're probably only saving $0.01-$0.02 / Order. I just look at it as $0.01-$0.02 / Order X 30ish Orders / Day X 365 Days / Year = $109.50-$219.00 Saved.

I tried using those cardboard mailers awhile back and got a lot of complaints from people because the card wasn’t in a toploader even though card arrived without damage 🙄 So, I switched over to PWE’s / Toploaders to keep customers happy and cost was about the same as PWE / Toploader combo. I should have emphasized my point better in this video. The method that I talked about here doesn’t save a ton of money and probably isn’t worthwhile for someone shipping a few ESE’s. But, for me, I save between $0.01-$0.02 / ESE doing things this way and I’m shipping 30-40 ESE’s everyday. So, that savings adds-up over the course of month / year. Plus, I do think my method saves a good bit of time in volume.

It’s weird how I hardly get any Item not Received Cases when Tracking Info. shows as being Delivered; but, when Tracking Info. doesn’t work for whatever reason, I get a flood of Item not Received Cases. I wonder why that is? 🤔 Haha 😆

Unfortunately, you just need to accept the fact that you're going to run into issues like that every once in awhile (1% of ESE Orders getting Refunded is about my % Too)... Tisk, Tisk... To be fair though, I didn't even know that was a thing where some printers can't actually print PWE's 😆 The cost of ink is definitely another consideration depending upon what type of printer you're actually using. I don't understand how buyers OR sellers can use this shipping service at any sizeable scale. That’s always going to be an issue with PWE / ESE Orders. ESE Tracking is great when it actually works; but, it doesn’t always work. Fortunately, the vast majority of ESE Orders are fine with zero issues. Those cases where buyer claims to have not received card (whether it’s actually true or not) are definitely the vast minority of ESE Sales.
@karmy2005
@karmy2005 Год назад
I don't really see how this can save you time and money. A thermal printer actually costs less money than a regular printer because it only costs $1 for 50 labels. How many labels can you print with ink? I have over 60,000 cards listed on ebay, mostly sports cards. A thermal printer prints faster than the one you are using. It might save you some time, but I don't see how it can save anybody money. I'm assuming you've never used a thermal printer before. If you haven't then you can't really say it saves time and money.
@OldSkoolPokemon
@OldSkoolPokemon Год назад
I should have elaborated a bit more on that portion of this video... I pay $0.03 / Label for my Thermal Printer and roughly $0.015 / Label for my Ink Printer. So, in my case, I am saving about 50% using Ink Printer vs. Thermal Printer. However, it really comes down to the type of Ink Printer that you're using (some probably would end-up costing more) as well as how many PWE Orders you're shipping. For someone who's only shipping a handful of orders everyday, it might not make sense as you're really only savings a cent or two per order. However, for someone like me (and probably you as well); those pennies add-up when you're mailing so many PWE's everyday.
@karmy2005
@karmy2005 Год назад
@@OldSkoolPokemon OK, thanks for clearing that up. If that's what works for you. It costs me roughly $0.017 per label, fairly close to where you are at. I've been selling cards for 33 years myself. I know a majority of the large card sellers like Burbank Sports Cards (2.2 million cards on ebay)and Got Baseball Cards (215,000) to name some use thermal printers because they last a lot longer than normal printers. I've been using a Zebra thermal printer which is currently over 25 years old and still working great.

Great video, but the title needs changed! Thermal labels are the way to go, printing on envelopes = wasting time and money. Proven by the mega card sellers with millions of cards in inventory ALL using thermal printer labels.
@PacksForProfit
@PacksForProfit 9 дней назад
My thoughts on why are: 1) Speed. Printing on the envelopes takes significantly longer in quantities (and these days even minimum wage is $0.25 per minute). 2) Costs: Thermal printer labels are around 0.02 in bulk. Chances are ink actually costs more. A quick Google search says $0.039-$0.089 in ink costs per sheet of paper, so even envelope size is likely over 0.02. 3) If someone buys over 3 oz of cards, what's going to be your option? Might as well have bought a thermal printer at that point as you save time and money having the thermal printer vs slowly cutting a sheet of paper and taping it on a package.

I would never even do it the way you do it either as it too costly for ink, and electricity and printer. Have you ever used a thing called a pen? Write it out on a envelope take it to the post office and send it how they say the cost will be, simple Doesn't cost anything only the stamp and an envelope. You obviously have not costed in your full costs or you wouldn't be doing it with a printer full stop.

That’s fine if you’re only mailing a few PWE’s everyday; but, that’s just not practical at-all as you scale-up and start mailing more-and-more PWE’s.
