Ramesh Balsekar, Nisargadatta's translator, and a well-known non-dualist, said " e core of our problem, then, lies in thought, which is the creator of time". This opens a window into an approach for ending the tyranny of conceptual/mental time. If thought can be modified, slowed, or stopped, then time can be modified, slowed, or stopped. Following many years of yoga and meditation practice, the speaker, a PhD. in the physical sciences and an industrial and academic researcher and manager, had his self-referential thoughts abruptly stop. is state has continued, with few exceptions, for 12 years. Time has similarly largely stopped as an on-going phenomenon on a day-to-day basis. "Chopping wood and carrying water", and even planning and learning, have continued, but without self-referential thoughts, they occur without a clear sense of their happening "in time". Drawing upon Zen, advaita and yoga of different types, diverse experiential and practical approaches to reducing the intensity, type and number of thoughts, as well as potentially stopping them, will be presented. These approaches are derived from the speaker's book "Happiness Beyond thought: A Practical Guide to Awakening", and his presentations and articles. Recent developments in cognitive neuroscience and complex systems theory that support, explain and expand these approaches will also be presented and discussed.

It would appear that I have an innate ability to shut off the self-referential internal narrative at will. I do not know how it occurs. There is an intent that arises and the narrative stops. Initially, it was in frequent I forget to do it or a short duration, and go back into thought, but after meditating 45 to 90 minutes a day for the last 10 months I’m finding the frequency is increasing the periods are increasing and the fact that I have to have the narrative to live my daily life plan what I’m going to do talk to my wife work is actually not necessary. Again, I don’t know what’s going on or how there’s nothing I could teach it’s just what I’m witnessing and noticing. One thing I notice is that when the self-referential ternal narrative stops, there’s no sense of knowing what I know. There is no one here to know it, and that level of knowing is the conceptualization and verbalization of thought in the mind. Also the sense of being a separate individual arises with the narrative and falls away as well. So I’m having more and more experiences with no one here And the action is still occurring.

Its interesting also to me that magic mushrooms have been proven to help Cluster Headache sufferers break out of a cluster cycle. Maybe its a completely different mechanism than turning of the Default Mode (some other example of the benefits of psychedelics.).. or maybe there is a "blah blah blah" aspect to cluster headaches themselves. Could explain then why psilocybin breaks their cycles. Although not much is know about what definitively triggers a CH episode, "stress" and anxiety (i.e high levels of the blah blah blah) are usually associated with onset. As far as turning off the Default Mode with meditation and presence/absorption, this is also so very fascinating.

My conclusion from this is that manipulation of the brain by different techniques causes experiences described as non-dual, which explains that one does not come into contact with something that is more real, as non-dualists suggest.

As far as I understand this stuff from reading Wikipedia, a lot of the ideas he’s talking about, like the default mode network, are simply that at the moment, ideas. They seem quite plausible to me but ultimately we should be careful before we assume this is the truth
@kimdejot

Can you elaborate please? I don't understand your point but I appreciate the scepticism so would like to hear more :)

@@kimdejot Basically if you read the wiki page on default mode network, you'll see that his ideas are what the science literature suggests at the moment. But its not fact and far from settled. I feel like he presents what are theories as facts in this video

@@benhallo1553 I won't argue with the point you're making, but I would like to ask: is Wikipedia really a good authority on how much good science there is behind an idea? That is not my personal experience so far at least. It is often a better source than myself when I encounter a new idea, but in the areas where I have been working and studying the last decade, the wiki pages are almost allways lacking/outdated. I'd say there's a long gap between provning an idea scientificly (and reaching scientific consensus) and it entering the general discussion as truth. I think Wikipedia represents the general discussion rather than the scientific consensus.

Keep in mind these are all neural correlates. Nothing here indicates causation. This is always the danger of trying to relate neurological explanations to mystical phenomena. This explains nothing other than what neural correlates from a sample of meditators are observed by 3rd party investigation. It doesn't imply that enlightenment = inactive DFN.

Wow a lot of complicated thoughts for someone who stopped thinking 14 years ago. Also his comparison between a meditator and someone on psilocybin is confusing. Is he saying that meditating in his special way of maintaining it somehow means he’s constantly on an acid trip? That’s what it sounds like he’s suggesting
@modernmountainmonk9666
@modernmountainmonk9666 6 лет назад
acid trips have hallucinations too though, he doesn't hallucinate. Just clarity of consciousness.

so a friend told me: the hallucinations stop way before the trip ends, at least what I know from Psylocibin. What follows is what I don't even want to call 'trip' anymore, I call it 'Buddha Feeling'. It's what really is most important to me about these experiences. Funnily enough, after first time experiencing this it was clear to me that this is like meditation. I was so hyped to look it up and almost expected to find nothing on this topic but then stumbled upon this video.

If you study up on magic mushrooms - psilocybin you will come across the term 'ego death' a lot as it sometimes brings about this state of pure awareness without the ego, without the blah... blah... blah... Just silence, no mind.
