The Buck carrier is awesome. It comes with a bit of rubber hose and a zip tie to secure it in place, but works better without the zip tie because my saw always gets caught on it...

I just try to tie-in as high and central as possible. This usually puts me either above or level with the rigging... - Patrick

I rarely sharpen my spurs, once every few years, most trees I just try to step normally and trust that they will sink in. Every once in a while I get into a really hard tree where I will have to pound each step in, very hard on the body... - Patrick

@@TreeMuggs_PatrickM yeah you are exactly right. have you ever gaffed out I'm sure you have I just worry if I don't step hard I'm going to gaff out I've never gaffed out to be honest. can you tell me a little bit about gaffing out like what would happen I'd be caught immediately right if I had my lanyard on

@@br-dj2ti I’ll chime in my friend, gaff out situations vary. Smooth bark or no bark on the tree can let the lanyard slip and roll and could be dangerous. Use a Prussik on the lanyard so it can’t slip down if you gaff out. If I foresee a situation like that while I’m working, I’ll just go around the tree twice with my long lanyard. If I know it’s a sketch climb on beech, striped maple or dead ash I’ll use a prussik from the git-go. If there’s bark on the tree and you gaff out, it’s just going to jerk you into the tree. If there’s a nub or stick left, it will magnetically aim towards your rib cage or scrotem. Your Inner forearms knuckles and face take most of the shock tho. You get used to it. I gaff out on big bark trees. The smoother or shallower bark holds the gaffs better. The mature bark on locust, sugar maple, or white pine can be a bitch.

@@TreeMuggs_PatrickM oh snap yeah the creator (I just found out) is from waxhaw nc! Thats around where im at! Im always on the hunt for the best mechanical. Dont like the zig zag and I'm not sold on the RRpro . using the akimbo now. Iv always preferred a rope hitch cord

@@TreeMuggs_PatrickM Fair point, I know it's one of those unrealistic things for the bowline to roll out and need the stopper..

Tree work is a tad more dynamic with movement, not just up and down compared to rope access.

This type of climbing device is known as a multicender, allows easy up and down in a single device. We go up and down, up and down way more than a lot of other rope access trades, wouldn't make sense to keep switching devices between ascent and descent...
