I have been divorced since 2011 and one of the issues was he was never my friend, he never defended me. Being friends is really a good direction to go!

My husband and I started as really, really good friends in college-neither of us planning on getting involved with ANYone, much less each other. So really, we were surprised by love. And I’ve told many people since then that, in retrospect, it was the perfect way to fall in love. Too often people fall into lust and figure out too late that it’s not enough. But if you fall in like with the person we’ll before you fall in love with them, then both of you have the time to recognize and appreciate the unbelievable gift and blessing you’re bringing to each other.

Just to answer your last question, when I prayed years ago for my husband who I'm still praying for, I always pray that he'll be my best friend. Like I can't imagine it any other way. It has been and is a heart's desire. I just also want to say that I really love your story and how you transitioned to officially being a couple. it's really encouraging because I've gone through something similar with someone special to me. I've met someone I call my best friend. What we share I have never experienced before with anyone and it's amazing when I think of it. It's nothing forced, it's a natural deep connection that I experience and this is coming from someone who is not so free with people. It takes me long to let people in but with this guy, it's so effortless and it comes with great peace as well. Before I graduated from university and moved to a far place, we would constantly meet up and hang out as friends but things would get heated for us. We had many moments when we'd kiss, but when we'd talk, he'd tell me we are just friends and that he didn't feel anything for me but all these things that friends can't do because they only friends were happening🤦. It was so hard, confusing and disturbing because I had already fallen for him and yet he seemed slow. Sometimes I felt like I was the one pushing for it rather than him pursuing me and I hated the whole experience. He also struggled with boundaries. We set boundaries but it was impossible But it's nice to hear your husband's point of view on what was going on in him during the time before he felt the release. I've prayed about it over and over, even asking God to help me move on if it's not His will, but everything seems to be pointing towards him. So I'm a place where I've just chosen to keep waiting for the right time when we are both really ready. I pray that we'll get married someday soon and one of the reasons is that for me he's my best friend and I'd want to spend the rest of my life with him.

There's a Christian couple, Sonserae and Patrick Hagan who met and married within 28 DAYS (I know!) They've been married for over 6 years and are expecting their first. And I think they consider each other best friends, even though it unfolded so quickly. 😊

Loved listening to this story! I met my husband when we were both 16. We went to different high schools but worked together at a family owned grocery store. We became friends and enjoyed hanging out together. He finally asked me out on a date. We went to dinner and saw a movie (Paint your Wagon). We had so much fun together. I always knew we would end up married but I dated others. I realized I was wasting my time dating others as I kept comparing everyone to him! I finally went over to his home and we went to the park and sat there for four hours talking about our feelings for each other and our future. We continued dating and became engaged at 20, married at 21 and had nearly 47 years together. He was ALWAYS my best friend and I feel that is why our marriage was secure. Not easy, not always good, but always secure. He died in 2019 at the age of 67 due to a tragic crash. I feel so blessed to have had the best of him !
