The Catholic church doesn't recognize civil annulment & so they have their own church annulment law as part of Canon law. It's fine if the civil divorce will only be for non-Catholics but they should not base it on the religion of the petitioner at the time of marriage. If that will be approved, many Catholics will change their religion. 😁

That senator was able to get annulment decree even if they were together for more than 10 yrs. Only in the Philippines an annulment is being granted to marriages that are not really voidable. If it's voidable, it should have been filed within the first yr of marriage. Otherwise, there should be a valid reason that caused the delay but a delay of more than 5 yrs will not be accepted in other countries. The main reason of his wife for filing an annulment seems to be about abuse based on philstar's article which states this: In the petition, she cited instances when the senator allegedly abused her.
