Storytime: I fought a Karen on the plane. 

Karen: “I’m from Charlestown.” I’m from Boston and Charlestown folks can’t even bust a grape. 😂😂😂😂

Being a mother means when you know your traveling with your kids you make sure you reserve your seats with your kids.

"I'm a mother." Dude, you chose that. No one owes you anything, damn. Sad part is, if she didn't act like that, someone may have traded with her.

Something about people just minding their own business and doing what they are supposed to do gives Karen’s the ✨entitlement tingles✨ and they have to unleash all hell on surrounding individuals.

This is the perfect example of EXACTLY why it’s so important to teach children manners and just how to be polite in general. You will get nothing, no favours, and no compassion from those around you if you are an entitled human who is incapable of “asking” rather than “telling”.🙄

And THIS Is why Kelly is getting her pilot's license!

As a mother, she was foul. She thought you'd sympathize with her so she tried you. I'm glad you stuck to your guns.

As a parent! I actually like sitting in the back by the rest room because kids need to go and we need to wait anyways for our checked bag. Makes no sense to be in the front if we don’t need to get off as soon as the plane docks. I kinda came to terms that now that we have kids we are not efficient at traveling anymore 😂 might as well get out of peoples way 🤷🏽‍♀️

I once was on a flight and a “Karen” pretended to have a panic attack so that she did not have to sit in a middle seat. Our flight was delayed because she would not sit down. Long story short a flight attendant approached me (only me) and asked if I would exchange seats with someone who was having anxiety with her seat. Me being a college student who believes in doing the right thing, gave up my seat with extra room (that I paid for) to go sit in an extremely uncomfortable middle seat. At the end of the flight the flight attendants gave me a bottle of wine. It as nice. I was under 21 but I didn’t say anything 😂

If parents have the same option to select their seat when they book their flight I don’t feel bad for them. Sometimes I feel they do it on purpose and expect someone will give up their seat. If for some reason three seats or two seat together aren’t available then speak to the employees at the terminal desk before boarding the plane. Don’t make a scene or try to make me feel bad especially if it’s a full flight and try to get to me switch a seat, especially if it puts me in the back by the toilet. For the second Karen she should have closed her eyes, covered them with something, or wear sunglasses, in addition to taking some Advil or Tylenol for her migraine. She’s a nurse she knew better. If I was the child’s parent I would have shouted back, “Walk up here and try to slap my child if you want to! You’ll crawl and limp your ass back to your seat black and blue. Since you’re a nurse you should think about if you want this ass whooping and fractures.”

You had me at "Dear God" lol.... as a mother who didnt wan t kids but fell in love, had her first baby at 34 and 2nd at 36, i spent a good deal of years dealing with the "Single Woman Guilt trip". The same thing happened to me during a flight and its BS. Unfortunately i gave into the pressure, I moved and had to sit at a window seat and I am a nervous flyer. it was a horrid flight for me. I'm so glad you stood your ground!

The two children could have gone in the back with her and two from the back could have come up front. I'm a retired gate agent. Next time don't stress yourself out... request the airline employee's assistance. You paid for it.

I’m a mother & I’d never just expect someone to let me take their seat. Me as a mother I should’ve made sure I booked my tickets early or made sure I can afford for my family to sit together comfortably.

As a parent: when traveling, my husband and I always prepare in advance. Thankfully most airlines allow for us to pick our seats in advance and if not, then as you suggested, go to the attendant and ask them politely if they can accommodate. I got heated for you… That sense of entitlement from the lady is a no go for me. -applause- for standing up for yourself tho

"Okay you know what, no one was actually talking to you. Thank you, I was talking this young girl here". It's just another way of saying, I was so confident bullying this girl on her own, till you all decided to take her side.

this triggered a memory of one time in a bus when i found this girl in my seat (that i had CHOSEN myself and RESERVED) and when i told her that was my seat she just said “no, it’s mine”. i told her i had chosen this seat several days ago and she said she had as well (which can’t be true). no one helped, neither did the driver and i didn’t get my seat on this already uncomfortable bus trip 🙃 the worst part was how she laughed at me for insisting and trying to defend myself, and even said “omg relax” LIKE……. took every ounce of patience within me to not throw hands. to this day it still makes me go >:((((((

Same…I’m a parent and recently traveled with my kids and I called the airline after booking my tickets and they made sure I was sitting with my kids because I didn’t want to pay additional to select seating plus they were scattered throughout the plane.

We sat stuck in our seats on my flight to Lisbon for like an hour before takeoff because someone on my plane refused to put on a mask. These bros were yelling at her “get off the plane we hate you Karen” and saying we should force her off because that’s how we do it in New York, and then she was escorted off by security. Just got into a discussion about something similar happening on a NY tour bus. So glad you took your seat! It's BS. The whole world doesn't have to revolve around kids - I get there will be times, but EVERY time? Nope!

An eye mask and some noise cancelling headphones would have fixed 2nd Karen’s problems. I worked in hospitality most of my life. It always surprised me when people who claim to have certain “sensitivity” to things, don’t carry their own things with them. 1st Karen was definitely trying you. Glad you stood your ground.

Sometimes ppl with kids think they are entitled. Once I was on the train and young couple with a baby came to me and asked if I can move so they can sit together. I said NO. I liked my seat and I was comfortable. They could not believe I refused. They start telling other passengers that I refused to give up my seat and all flustered. I just put on my headphone and closed my eyes. 😂😂

I've often heard it said that it's a lost art because the last few generations have been raised on television and the internet rather than conversation and stories. Did you grow up in a unique family where TV and internet were limited or de-emphasized?

The flight crew should have intervened. Passengers are not allowed take seats they didn’t pay for. Always get the crew involved, and it they don’t do anything report them to corporate.

I wouldn't give up my seat, either. I'd be fighting for it. As for what my parents have done if our seats are split: You're on your own you better behave.

Well in your defense, every flight I have ever been on (a lot all over the world) they tell you to keep your window up for takeoff. She was violating on that point alone.

I try to avoid flying within my own country as much as possible. For my upcoming trip, I have one 90 minute flight and the rest of my flights are international (no ghetto flights for me) 😆. On those flights, everyone has been tested and are probably very happy to be leaving and going somewhere better. I'm headed to the Greek Islands ⛱️☀️⛱️🇬🇷☀️

It's rough in these airline streets. Everyone has gotten real froggy smh. I always pay the extra 25 for comfort seats because people really are wilding out in coach these days. Cannot afford first class, but I just try to fly Delta, rack up points, and avoid riffraff where I can.

Ugh one time someone sat on my window seat on a flight to Dubai and I was so excited to see Dubai at night but I was too shy to say anything about it and I’m still regretting it! However, I then got a free business class upgrade on my connecting flight to Brisbane, so karma did its thing ✨ I’m so glad you spoke up for yourself 👏🏼

When I had little kids and were seated separately, we always asked NICELY at the ticket counter or at the flight attendant and they always helped us by asking for volunteers. There were always nice folks who would move willingly. And yes. I ALWAYS preferred the back seats.

Girl with that intro Imma ask you to wait to pour myself a cuppa tea first. Airport Karens bring out a different level of annoyance for my blood pressure and entertainment, it's amazing. Want to say that you've made me switch from AA to Delta just by your ravings, and I get it. The difference in quality is amazing (I used to fly 4 flights a week for over 2.5 years for work) and I started going out of my way to get Business Class or 1st (always window seat, never around exit row or aisle 1) just for that small extra peace. The claustrophobia of sitting in the back started getting to me hard.

People always told me I am cringy for putting people in place because it is unnessacary yada yada yada and acting like I am a bad person for it. I mean if I stand my ground with normal language when someone does me wrong I shouldn't suddenly be the person in the wrong right? Those people who complained to me just have no back bone it seems and can't confront people they rather just run away. Your storytimes really help to remember this.
