I didn’t entirely get around that part yet. I believe the quality of your life depends on the quality of your relationships. However I live in a tiny apartment in New York which I love and don’t need a big one however seeing behavior of some parts of lower class makes me unhappy (making streets so messy, vulgar language, slang, people being so ignorant they play music so loud not caring about others not being able to hear their thoughts, fake nails, lashes, promoting fake anything, broke people wearing designer stuff, rudeness, street perverts). Being in a more educated ( I don’t mean school) neighborhood would make me enjoy my living situation more. How do you deal with that? Do you move? Buddha would say it’s all delusion, someone else can say the quality of your life depends on your thoughts. How do you ignore what you see? Is the issue with me being annoyed and pointing these things out, or the issue is with people acting like that in those neighborhoods.
So very well said. I used to be out in the world buying this and buying that but then I snapped in my 40s and asked myself, "Are all of those things making me happy and having a quality of life?". Naw! So I embraced minimalism and I'm the happiest person on planet earth.
@@KellyStamps Possessions become 'ball and anchor' against freedom. Im saying this from real world first hand experience. Saying this from the 6 digit annually crew LOL. You can be a millionaire yet be in mental prison, a Gucci straight jacket binding you at every turn, due to debt, possessions, stress, peer pressures, label chasing nonsense. Kelly, you are light years ahead in realizing this in your young days, even more so impressed that you DO have money to spend, yet you still see and have a firm grasp on the Big Picture and the spiral right there awaiting all of us to take the bait. So proud of you, and I dont have to KNOW you to say that - I HEAR you and old enough to be your parent. (I have a 27 year old son right here in Texas lolol). I look FORWARD to the day you take us on flights as a pilot at every level in your career. Best wishes and maintain patience. You'll be perfect in the left seat!!!
"I do not wish to be a caretaker of things." I feel that in my soul, Kelly. I have a small $800 apartment I live alone , no pets and three plants that really dont need a lot of care. Im 26 I dont have it in me to take on high maintenance things other than myself rn.
Well said Kelly… my friend is a financial planner and her coworkers would comment on her choice of vehicle and I heard her say, ‘I don’t park my ego in the driveway’… I’ve never forgotten that!!! Keep going 🤗 Sincerely, Susan
Yessss!!! I miss my old '68 Volkswagen 🐞 beetle & the mean and awkward GLARES I would get from coworkers, coming back from lunch in the parking lot. 🙄😏
Because of you I stopped feeling bad for getting high quality sustainable clothes and not buying new clothes for YEARS! I got rid of everything that wasn't timeless or truly sentimental and never felt happier!
I noticed the weirdest thing a few years ago. The more money I have, the less i want to buy stuff. I also sometimes feel this weight of owning something the next day after buying it. Even furniture (that i actually need)!?
Mhmmmm. Precisely why I am sitting on my sheep ottoman responding to you instead of my oversized couch lol. It takes training but I just want to see my bank account grow now!
i hate buying stuff but I also want more stuff, whenevr i buy something even if its like 5 dollars I feel so mad at myself and yet im constantly wanting a new bag or makeup lmao
It's all how you look at it. Money can came and go. Just buy something that will benefit your future life even if you lose everything you will still have that thing.
Kelly, you should do a mind/emotional minimalism as well. Like how to de-clutter our brains from temptation from everyday advertisements or get rid of people who only consume our time and space negatively.
Rules/ideologies are to serve a purpose, not monuments to be served. If your life naturally evolves into being less minimalist than it used to be, why is that bad - if you're not being totally irresponsible? There can be a middle ground between monkish minimalism and mindless consumerism.
Agreed but she literally states in this video the purpose minimalism serves. It helps her feel secure for emergencies and have access to her hobbies and greater aspirations.
And besides that, even mild consumerism has to have a purpose, if we consider your logic. If her mild consumerism serves no purpose and it’s just a mean to waste money and look fancy on the outside, then she’s better off without it
@@myrtila Everything has and serves a purpose in our lives, nothing moves or is done without purpose because everything is connected into a fully concatenated and unified universe.
I would honestly prefer a more minimalist approach to life in general, simplistic, less hectic and more within your control. We don’t have to have everything in life just because we see others do like celebs and influencers or told that we have to get it. Sometimes less is truly more and gives you more room for the things that matters the most. This is going to get buried in the comments I know lol
I’m so with you. I refuse to buy a new car and get a car note because of how much I was spending on car note and insurance. I listened to society and bought a house and it has been nothing but a headache ever since. You have to do what makes you happy and spend your money as needed.
Yeah the only regret I’ve made is the brand new car. I honestly just didn’t have the info regarding used cars. In my mind it was gonna break down and I would have to start pushing it on the highway and be hit on by Florida men LOL. That’s totally not the case.
@@KellyStamps Lol 😂 I totally understand that. My car was a year old when I bought it. It didn’t have a ton of miles on it. Now it has over 150,000 from driving all over and driving Lyft. It’s 7 years old now and still ticking. Toyota Corolla 🔑 I just let my friends and family drive their fancy cars if we go out 😂
The "new money" concept is so true. Its best to get the mindset about money straight before making 'good money' or else its easy for people and just capitalism in general to take advantage of those earnings.
Watching you go from seemingly putting so much value on owning things from "that brand" to this is so nice. As a frugal, anti-consumerism person I truly appreciate you putting out content like this, and reflecting on how materialism, and marketing has impacted you. It happens to all of us. We all can be meshy sometimes.
Well half of those shoes I sold the stampede student came back due to sizing LOL, but at least they have no value to me! I’ve been wearing my new balances every day and they are way more comfortable. 😂 I will try selling them again when I have the energy
The amount of clothes I have collected is overwhelming, but if I start Marie Kondo-ing out the things that do not spark joy, I probably would only have 1 outfit, which is just a dress and shoes
Love you Kelly! I just moved again and I ALSO fell off my minimalist streak a little and I panicked yesterday! Your video helped remind me of why it's worth it to throw out what I don't love and just keep the little bit that I do. Live for you, everybody! Don't live for those brands or online shopping!
I just had this wake up call end of May-June, it’s crazy when u catch yourself and truly DONT know what the hell you’re spending your money on! Flip side is watching yourself build yourself back up and being grateful for the chance to do so. Thank u for this 💛
I love kelly so much. I don't think she understands how much she impacts lives so positively and so wisely. I work retail partime and spend all my money in one day and i don't pay rent or anything, i just spend too much money 😩 Thanks for helping me momma stamps!
I told my friends that I splurged on the nice potatoes instead of the cheap ones and they looked at me like 😀 "potatoes aren't a splurge". Honey those potatoes made my soup 🤌
Girl, your look today is *chef's kiss* ❣ I'm looking to move out next summer so to make it easier, I'm trying to get rid of everything I don't need and honestly? Such a weight off my shoulders 😌
Kelly don't worry about renting, it makes sense for you and many others. If you don't want to be bound to one place, just rent. Minimalism is good. Be careful with the Wagyu stake though :o
I actually haven’t ordered that steak in two months. I naturally don’t crave red meats and when I have it on occasion it really messes my stomach up and I want to barf lol. It tastes amazing on occasion though but naturally I just wanna eat vegetables and tiramisu LOL.
"My therapist, hey girl!" your little remarks like this always make me laugh/smile hahahaha. Thank you for talking about such an awesome meaningful topic yet also making it funny and light hearted at the same time
It's sooo amazing to see a youtuber/influencer that doesn't just promote consumption, thanks so much Kelly. Just before this i got sucked into watching a video of a youtuber showing what they got for their birthday, Showing endless and endless things and acting like that's what makes them happy. and maybe it does. But i hate the idea that so many people watch it and think that they should have this kind of lifestyle to be happy.
I like the fact that the sponsored partnership actually makes sense with the video. I see many other influencers who just add an interrupted paid promo ad that doesn’t even mesh with the video. I ❤️ your videos.
you know, it’s been weighing heavy on my mind to do a closet clean out & sort through my things because when my environment is cluttered my brain feels cluttered & i feel like my ADHD makes it hard for me to keep track of so many things. i’m starting to realize i want money not to buy more things but to afford the experiences that will make me happy & i love when you talk about this from your perspective because you go against materialistic beliefs that i feel is what majority of people promote these days.
LOVE LOVE that you are sharing saving money and minimalism inspiration to all of your subscribers. Frugal living, minimalism, saving money and budgeting are my favorite topics! Thanks for another great video!
I wish I could one day make someone this happy by uploading twice. IN ONE DAY. Literally the dream. I have so many videos I’m working on right now and I can’t decide which to prioritise. Maybe I don’t have to decide😏
I LOVED wearing a uniform for one of my jobs. It took all of the indecision out of my morning life for the 3 years I wore it. Freedom! What a relief. Looking back, I would have loved to have worn one for school. Young people have enough pressure without having to try look cool or be trendy. Peace.
I'm getting ready to move across the country and this was much needed motivation to keep reducing the amount of stuff I will be driving 3000+ miles. Thank you, Professor Stamps!
Your transparency is really inspiring Kelly! I always see these realisations from ppl that finally make enough to buy what they’ve always wanted to and inevitably say that it’s not worth it. Yet they don’t actually explain why it is not or be transparent like you about how difficult it is not actually buying into materialism. Your honest is wonderful :)
I too have fallen victim to materialism. Since becoming engaged to a provider, (who I have no idea how I finessed into being with me) part of me feels I deserve everything this life has to offer. The other part is like "girl, do you honestly need that?". I can't win even when I think I've won. Such is life! Thank you for your honesty and creative brilliance.
Hearing you mention the people who watch and love you, with their own channels, manifesting success and happiness for us, was so sweet and unexpected. I've been struggling a LOT lately and that was just the perfect reminder that I am going to get through it. Thank you, Kelly.
Love that you are living your truth and instead of having "hobbies" that you can only get to one weekend of the month, you've made them a massive part of your existence. Love what you do. Do what you love. You are living it.
Wow! your feelings? We just need to have a balanced life, and know-how to control our feelings bc we need our feelings. If we have cold-blooded feelings that are still feeling, no offense though, just thinking aloud.
You explained it 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺. Every time someone says money can’t buy you happiness they forget how money can buy you access to some of the things that make you happy. Of course, there are still things that can make someone happy and these things don’t need money. It also depends on the individual. Someone who loves jogging doesn’t need as much “cushion” as someone who loves horseback riding, no pun intended.
I watched and liked this video this morning and your words of encouragement for us small RU-vidrs have stuck with me all day. Thanks so much for your kindness and positive attitude!
This is apart of the growing up process. When we are young we want everything we couldn't get once we get the money. As we get older we learn to discern what is useful or important to us and discard those things that are only made to hold us back.
Good content Kelly, when things begin to own us it's always a problem. Your values resonates with me and so many of us! I will take a second look at Google pay for supporting you!
Good luck girl!! I worked at a helicopter school in my early 20’s. I was luckily enough to experience cross country and Maintance flights. You can do it!
What if 5 years from now, you hop on a Southwest Airlines Flight to Fort Laudydale, buckle up, take off and then your captain comes on and says,"There is a 100% chance of laughter on this flight, weather in the area is cloudy with a chance of Eataly meatballs and showers in the vicinity. Otherwise, welcome aboard to Stampede air...um Southwest Airlines!" Enjoy your flight! :)
as a single woman with no kids only a little dog. I dont feel the need to buy a house because if things go bad I have to fix it out of pocket while being in an apartment just place a maintenance request with the leasing office and voila! because of this channel I think about my "purchases" and make sure I pay myself first. Kelly makes a lot of sense regarding minimalist vs materialism
Your journey to having an endless supply of Biscoff biscuits is an admirable feat! But also since the American airlines strike I learned about the wide range of pay for pilots and some of those salaries just sounds crazy!
Kelly you ARE the realist you-tuber out here! Follow your dreams and good for you!!! I like being on this journey watching you evolve and grow! very rewarding
Money doesn't make you happy, money lets you live more comfortably and do more of what you love a lot more often. :-) Being smart with ur money is good tho~ I choose experience over a ton of materialistic things anyway.
This is the very first video of Kelly that I ever watched. And I got trapped. I subscribed right after and seen the whole chanel multiples times (like people who rewatch Friends over and over) love you Kelly. Thank you for everything
At the end of the day, the only thing you're sure of is yourself! So, getting attached to things (although I'm a hoarder so don't get me wrong) over memories is truly illogical!! I'm happy for you, you're getting closer to being a pilot every day! 🌱
Thank you so much for posting this video, Kelly! I've started losing my way recently, and this was a nice wakeup call to get back on track with my better habits. You also made me feel more comfortable with my goal to minimize my wardrobe to a capsule.
I wonder what it feels like to be a minimalist, not that I have a lot, but I got to have money to know whether I'd be a minimalist or not. But it seems peaceful. No flashing. Just living happy & being a mystery.
I like having lots of stuff but it does get to a point where it gets in the way of life. Like I moved a month ago and my house is still full of unpacked boxes. I know I must destash but I’m waiting for Libra.
I genuinely live vicariously through your journey. You have this extraordinary way of adjusting your life as and when it feels right for you, something many people are too afraid or not able to do (for a plethora of reasons I’m sure) but many dream of doing. I absolutely adore that about you and I love that you learn and grow so confidently and with such a genuine zest and love for life. I say all this to say… gurrllll you inspirational and we loves ya! Now America aren’t really vibing with the U.K. right now so my October trip to New York looks about as likely as me growing a third ear buttttt I shall live out my NYC meets sex and the city meets Professor Stamps-esque week away! Xx
the third reason is so me! I don’t ever want to have a car or house or pet (not until my late 30’s at the earliest) because I don’t want to have to deal with maintenance and feeling tied down by my belongings or responsibilities
You are giving me faith in life. You have introduced me to a kind of nice side of live. I have been very negative and all, but you really help me cope with it. I wish you all the best in life! Love you!
