I’ve been driving like an 80 year old since I was 17. Not worth taking risks like that risking your life or someone else’s. I just give myself plenty of time to get to my destination. Be safe out there!

i live in NY, recently i was pulled over for speeding. i have never been treated so rudely by an officer in my life, i have a dash cam that shows my speed and i was driving 64 in a 55. the officer wrote me for 1.following too closely ( i was the only car on the road) 2. disobeying the speed limit and 3. 85 in a 55!!. the whole time the officer said (grunted) 5 words to me. now in ny thats 10 points on my license.. at 11 points you loose your license. the cop knew exactly what he was doing, long story short i went to court and once they saw the officers name that knocked all 3 down to "jaywalking" (how you can jaywalk on the highway while in a car i have no idea) but 600$ in fines and there was no lesson learned besides that if a cop wants to be an asshole he can. you dot even have to be speeding to get screwed by the legal system..i understand this in an exception not a rule. not all police are out to collect money but in my case this one was.

I’m 53 years old and used to be an aggressive driver too. When I started conceal carrying, years ago, my attitude changed overnight, even I’m surprised at the change, I humbled down. Mind you I’ve never got a speeding ticket in my life, nor have I’ve had an accident, and even to this day I do speed, but I do it when the conditions are right, so as not to endanger myself or anyone. As far as other people speeding around me, I don’t care anymore, who knows why they are speeding, may be an emergency for all I know, so I just get out of the way. I have nothing to prove to anyone.

In Michigan we have to disclose that we have a CPL (concealed pistol license). I haven't been pulled over in over 30 years. My son who was only 22 at the time when he got pulled over carrying. He told the officer "I have a CPL and I have a gun on me". The officer asked him "where is it located?" My son said "on my right hip". Officer asked "you're not going to shoot me are you?" My son said "no". Officer says "that's good, I won't have to shoot you then". The police officer was so cool. My son never even got a ticket. Love your videos Jeff. Keep up the great work.

Id like to add that here in Pennsylvania if you having a firearm in your car loaded is considered concealed so if you have it loaded anywhere in the vehicle and you are stopped you MUST have a concealed carry permit...Even though you do not need a carry permit to open carry in this state once you get in your vehicle its now considered concealed...So, if you are only transporting it and not carrying it and do NOT have a permit you must have the gun locked up and separate from the ammunition in the vehicle for example ammo ion a locked box in the back seat and guns locked up unloaded in the trunk...Also every state laws differ some places you must tell the officer theres a gun in the car some places you dont have to so learn and know your local laws...

Unfortunately here in SoCal driving the speed limit will get you in an accident. Everyone goes 15-20 miles over. I understand the frustration of people constantly changing speeds; like today there was a person who would be at 70 and then go all the way down to 60 it kept frustrating me so I went ahead and past him. He didn’t like that and zipped by me on my right. I giggled a little.

I respect your opinion, I guess it just depends where you live and who you interact with it can go either way tell one cops its a problem tell another they thank you...If its not in sight and has nothing to do with my stop I dont plan on introducing it into the conversation that is based on my experience with my local cops and state trooper.s..none of them cared about the gun until I mentioned it...

Speed isn’t dangerous. High speed on low speed, outdated roads is dangerous. We need an autobahn, and better stringent driving tests.

When I was younger I did some foolish things as well. But at one time when I got pulled over for disorderly conduct with a vehicle "fast acceleration from a stop sign". I was very honest with the officer who pulled me over and told him I understand why I got pulled over and told him I had no excuse for it, also apologized to him too. He let me off with a warning. Since then I have always been careful when behind the wheel cause I always tell myself I can't afford a ticket. Now I am always checking my surroundings when I am driving and that has saved me from being in accidents. Thanks for the great video and drive safe. And Happy Holidays.

Hey Jeff, just wanted to let you know that I just got an email a few minutes ago saying that Brian Evans had just shipped my package. I was thinking to myself who the hell is Brian Evans and what the hell did I buy or what was bought in my name, hope nobody had my credit card info. So I looked into it and I found out that Brian Evans is actually "Brian Evans Knife and Tool" who makes the Companion Neck Knife. Brian Evans funded his new updated version of the Companion Neck knife through indiegogo back in March of 2016. He had major issues with Mike Stewart at Bark River knives, it was a total nightmare. So Brian Evans finally got the job done and the updated Companion Neck Knife just got shipped out. Just wanted to let you know.

“Speeding” is arbitrary. The real danger on roadways isn’t speeding. It is variances in the speed of cars driving in close proximity of each other. You can be going the speed limit and as long as someone is going 15 under the arbitrary speed limit the road is dangerous. The danger is in one car quickly closing in on another. It isn’t the speed of any one driver.

I've been driving for about 11 years and I've always followed the speed limits and stopped at stop signs and red lights for "an appropriate" period of time. My friends have always made fun of me for driving "like a grandma" but I've never been pulled over and I've never been in an accident. I'd rather drive safe and get made fun of (or have people pass me) than get a ticket or risk hurting myself or others.

Amazing video Jeff, I'm 18 and have had my licence for about 8 months now, and completely agree with what you're saying. Sometimes I do get frustrated and want to try and go round that corners 10mph faster than I should, or go through a light thats just turned red but I honestly do try and follow the rules for the majority of the time. I really don't see the point in taking such a big risk just to get to your destination a little bit quicker, and as others have said in the comments the people that drive fast & recklessly often just manage to get to the lights quicker and have to spend more time waiting in their car. So thanks for reinforcing the importance of this and I really appreciate your storytime videos - I love listening to your stories, and picking up chunks of wisdom and morals from your life so again a big thank you for what you do! :)

2 weeks after getting my license, I was going 45 in a 30 and had 2 passengers in the car when I was supposed to have one. The police officer was extremely rude and mean to me, I had to go to court and the judge ended up taking it off my record, and took my license away for 3 months. He told me "this is your first offense, I will wipe it off your record with no fees if you promise not to do it again". That judge changed my life and since then I have never driven recklessly again.

Sorry about this whole ordeal and glad you're OK. I got a ticket just before Christmas last year and it's not fun to fork out the $$$ at that time of year. Lots of local laws and police department rules come into play when being pull over and carrying. In our area we're not required to tell the officer but if you do, depending on department policy, they may be required to take possession of the firearm for the duration of the traffic stop which will turn a quick "here's your ticket and watch your speed" situation into this whole ordeal of the officer calling for backup, you sitting around waiting, the officer asking you to get out of the car and taking the firearm(s), then writing out the ticket, then giving it all back to you - sigh. One of my instructors went thru one of these deals and even though it went without a hitch the stop took forever.

I got a speeding ticket when I was 21. There was an option to pay online at the time, but if I did that my insurance would have gone up. About two weeks later I went to court to plead guilty, where I paid 120 dollars and had to take a safe online driving course (which I completed in a day, and because I went to court the insurance didn't increase). I still got a few points but they were taken off after a year. Later on people asked me if I got the male or female judge. I got the male one and they all said "thank god because the female one shows no mercy." I will never forget this, but when I paid the cashier and was about to leave, a Mother and her Daughter around my age walked out of the prosecutor's office. The Daughter crumpled to the floor sobbing while her Mother was consoling her. She probably was heading to jail. Needless to say it made my experience feel like a cakewalk. Bottom line is it is much, much less hassle to just obey the driving laws.

The ONLY place where I speed is on a 300m stretch of avenue between two speedtraps, where there are no houses or businesses or ANYTHING. I only do it because most of the time it's really really empty and because there's next to no reason to park and there's the speedtraps, so police never patrols there. Used to be a bit of a leadfoot everywhere before that, until mobile trap payrol hit the stretch of street near my house and I got a ticket. Not very expensive, but the scare did me good.

It's not only about not getting angry yourself and having road rage, it also about how you deal with another driver who are currently experiencing road rage. I've learned in life that assholes will always exist(especially in the Tri-State area) me being from Jersey. If someone cuts you off and is diving crazy don't give them the middle finger and drop tons of F-Bombs out the window at them. Because that asshole driver is just a person having a really bad day and their emotional/unstable. Yelling back could cause that asshole drive to stop their car/truck get out and try to start a fight and harm you. That person could have a weapon(knife or gun) which is a deadly scenario. So if an asshole driver cuts you off or is tailgating you basically driving crazy, just get out of their way and remain calm. DON'T RESPOND TO THEM!!!!

our highways here in MA are the same. 65 is dangerously slow. the norm is above 70 but you usually wont get pulled over until 85ish. i've gone past cops at 90 without issue. but now, i have a kid so i drive wayyyy more carefully. especially at night. and i drive a "sports car" so i get tailgated all the time even when speeding so i try to keep my road rage to a minimum and let them pass.

About the whole speeding fine, it varies from state to state. Here in Texas I was clocked at 22 over and the ticket fine was $215 and pleaded no contest, but I took the option to take a defensive driving course and have the ticket wiped off my record. (I don’t know what all states provide this option but I’m pretty certain Texas isn’t the only one) And at the end of the day I only ended up paying $150 including court fees and defensive driving courses instead of the full $215 dollars straight up to the court.

Great video, I enjoyed it very much. My twin sons are cops and tell me stories everyday. The other day my son told me a story, he’s a Deputy and he pulled over a woman for speeding ( very fast ) he asked is there anything illegal in the vehicle? She said I’m from out of state and had a firearm in a locked container under her seat. He verified she was ok with documentation ( license, registration and proof of insurance ) the conclusion was he returned her documents said your good, slow down and unlock the firearm, you are in a shitty area. Most cops do the right thing. Those state troopers? Different story they do traffic.. ticket time ....

Me and a friend recently got in an accident. No ones fault, the car had an equipment failure. Anyways, prior to that, I would drive as if I was being chased or chasing someone. Weaving between lanes, 100% throttle, all that. After the accident, I've realized I can get seriously hurt even without speeding and everything. I can't bring myself to speed and weave in lanes anymore.

I have to agree as a fellow Pennsylvanian. Most people pay no mind to the posted speed limit. On 95 people do almost 95 on roads with 55 people are doing 70 on roads with 35 folks are doing 55. I do the same though hazards on front two windows down cab lights on and all documentation sitting on the dashboard or center console so I don't have to reach around in my car. The two times I've been pulled over at night the two cops were cool I got off with a warning. One we had a short convo about old square body's which is my daily driver. But yeah pa state troopers are no joke. Unless you have one in the family you don't get any breaks lol.

Some places you have to tell them right away, some you have to tell them if they ask. I think it's pretty silly to get nervous if they are told someone has one. How often is a criminal that has bad intent going to offer up that information? Handing them a cc license should tell them that you passed the same background check they did for their job and you're not a bad guy and they can relax a little.

Hey Jeff glad to see everything worked out okay for you. Btw, if you have a newer car you might be able to put on or turn on a speed limiter on the vehicle. Some cars just require going to the dealership and having it turned on. Now just a quick story. When I was in college I drove a 98 crown Vic and earned the nick name grandpa, because I drove 55mph everywhere. Now, most people made fun of my car and my driving, but little did they know my car had a 351 big block out of a 93 police inceptor that was built to around 450-500hp. My car had so much power it would do rolling burnouts at 30+ mph and would go in excess of 147(fastest I ever pushed it because the car started to float real bad past 135). But the reason I drove 55 and never raced anyone was because at wide open throttle I could drain an entire 19 gallon gas tank in under 12 miles(I did it once). The point of the story? I was a college student who paid for his own gas and that ment racing costed me money. Was it the best reason? No not really. But every time someone shouted slow poke or gave me the bird, I asked myself if it was worth the gas money to prove them wrong. Usually it's not. The moral is, sometimes you just gotta find your reason and remember it when the urge kicks in. I hope you found your motivation man and I hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday season.

Hey, Jeff! Love your vids man! I did want to say there are states, such as Oklahoma where I live, in which the self defense law specifically states you must declare your license/firearm to a law enforcement officer. Given that, I always hand my carry license with my drivers license. Bottom line, if someone chooses to take on the responsibility of carrying, they need to be very familiar with their state’s law. That’s all I got! :) Keep the vids coming, man. We love story time!

In Massachusetts, you never hand over your firearm permit or mention you are carrying a gun during first police contact. It just opens up a whole can of worms and question games. Massachusetts sucks!

I don't know what the law is where you live, but in Michigan we are required by law to immediately disclose any firearms in the vehicle. You can be arrested and charged for failure to disclose this info.

Thanks for sharing! Great message. There's another side to it too, btw - Germany has a far lower rate of accidents and fatal accidents than the US, not only despite, but also because of the derestricted autobahn. Several reasons - 1. Spend more money on infrastructure as a result 2. Cars are better inspected to register 3. Fatigue reduced 4. Road rage reduced This could be adapted to the US in some places. Take good stretches of interstate, derestrict for anyone willing to pay for a "speed stamp", which would pay for extra safety checks, driver training, and road repair. Would be better for everyone.

In pennsylvania, people and even cops do 75-80. It is the non spoken speed limit.

I bet if you have your record checked in 4 or 5 months it will show up that you got points out of it. as an insurance agent I have heard that story so many times that you won't get any points but a couple months down the road, Surprise, there they are. I hope you are right, but 9 times out of ten you get a ticket you get points.

What you have to consider is the fact that you are essentially driving a 2 ton bomb, going a 70 miles an hour , zipping by other 2 ton bombs, mere feet from them. That’s a huge responsibility even when your driving safely.

It's a great video , You're mostly young viewers might listen to your advice rather than some safety video or mom& dad , let us hope so anyway . Good job

Some states don’t require you to inform the officer ,However it’s just good manners to let him know what he’s dealing with . I know myself if I was in his shoes I would want to know ,when you get pulled over just say: before we get started here I just want to let you know I have a firearm on me or in the car 🚘 most of them will say thankyou for telling me and proceed about why he stoped us.
