You guys handled it well 👏. Definitely have stories growing up here in Canada 🇨🇦 both in Ontario and Alberta. For me it has been refusal of service because I’m Black and the boldness in nothing doing it. So many stories especially when I was a kid from stone throwing to making “Tarzan” when I walk in the hallways etc.

Yes, my son who is now married was called that N word in a private Christian school when he was in grade 9 . We live in Calgary and still do and the school was and still in Airdrie . I took them - both children out of the school as they were trying to explain it away ; l was not angry but needed to draw boundaries

My daughter, I wish it was easy, like you say to take the power from the 'n' word oo. I have lived in the US for almost 40 years, and have endured covert and overt racism. Think of all the black Americans, who for many generations, have had to endure that painful abuse. I didn't understand until a friend of mine explained to me the horror. Anyway, grateful you got out of that situation safely.

It's the 'take the power away from the N word for me', honestly. I really don't know how I would have felt if I was called that. But really, in Nigeria, we call each other that right? Save for the situation, which was really scary, I mean, I would have been terrified too... And if I responded to the n-word in that moment, it would have been out of the rush of the moment and not for the word. So mehn! Olus, Dorothy is your no 1 fan oloun 😂😂 All the yes she was saying was giving him the vibes to keep adding energy to the storytime. Although this isn't a story to laugh about, the way y'all narrated the story was just too funny. I have had an encounter with racists; twice sef. The first one was at a store. I went there to buy some groceries and household items. The cashier assumed I was homeless and told me they don't accept government-funded cash cards in their store. I was astounded and told her I was paying out of pocket without any support. It wasn't pleasant, but I paid and walked out of there. The second time I was at work (I worked at a fast food), this man requested someone else get their order because he didn't want this "peanut gallery" touching his food. The manager witnessed this and defended me, saying my name was Odunayo, not whatever he called me. The man said my name was too hard, so he'll either call me peanut gallery cos that's what I am or call me O. Omo these experiences aren't good, but God is taking us higher and we are soaring.

SMH, that’s absolute trash, sorry you both had such an experience, I live in Downtown Calgary, and I avoid walking the streets at night. That’s how a lot of the homeless and druggies are here, they are so rude and entitled, it’s crazy, if the man had asked nicely I’m sure you both would have given him something cause you’re both kind sweethearts. I agree though, when I’ve been called the “N” word it’s never affected me, even when I lived in the US where I was called a “money from a jungle”. I know I’m not any of that so I’m not bothered, those word hold no power over me.

Cheiiiiiii.....by homeless folks too.. Omo! I go do confrontation o! Unfortunately we will experience racism living in oyinbo land. I have experienced direct and indirect racism.. Have had patients refuse care cause I am a black nurse ... Oh well no be me go die....moving on... Na learning experience folks..no wahala . I am glad y'all are fine sha.
