Received the FIVE WATT WORLD BUSS in black. Just fantastic. Contacted David Barber directly , was extremely helpful. Amazing tone and very little to no noise.
Love this pedal! Barber is the company that got me into pedals; everything they make is awesome. Had a Direct Drive on my board forever and still makes its way on there
Great sounds! I have gone through a plethora of drive pedals and barber is the only company where I have not been able to get rid of them. I have the original blue colored BUSS, and old black box direct drive LG (low gain), the gain changer, and the tone press compressor. All of them are unbelievably good.
I have 4 Barbers on my more. David built me a Low Gain Burn Unit, Direct Drive, LTD, and Tone Pump. I have to say the Burn Unit and Direct Drive should be on everyone’s board. Amazing pedals!
I just did a comparison today of all my overdrives. A newer Lovepedal through-hole "old school build" Zendrive, a Lovepedal Zendrive 2 Gold, an original Alfonso built Zendrive, a GasFX Drive-Thru (Gainster clone with the big amp size caps and "mojo" resistors wired point-to-point on an eyelet board), Fulltone Fulldrive 2 V2, '99 Fulltone Fulldrive 2, BMF Purple Nurple (red llama), a Timmy, and more... Like Zac Childs has said, "it's a sickness." Anyway, they all sounded about the same, so I think I need one of these too because it's been a minute since I've had any Barber stuff. If I recall correctly, my Direct Drive, Half Gainer, and Fuggedaboutit all also sound a lot like the pedals listed above, lol. But I know this one is different for sure. I just know it.
Nice review. I just got one after hearing great tones from demos and I have it to the right of my Vemuram Jan Ray for a great gain sound. It seems to sound best that way to me as they compliment each other. I can also play cleaner rhythms with the Jan Ray then kick on the Buss for solos.
To my ears the BU mode has that real lean into it tone that makes you want to “burn” maybe hitting it with an Rc boost in a gig setting too. Great video Justin
Would be really curious what you think of the barber direct drive v4 (current model). I swap it in and out with the nobels for a different flavor and it might be my favorite med gain overdrive.
Nice demo. No crazy playing. Just showing what the knobs do. Ok here's an unrelated question....best clip on tuner? So many have way to much margin of error.....one popular one in particular.
I never see you recording through that OX! Is it something you are using these days, or do you generally prefer that awesome setup you demoed with the cab in the garage? If so, I'd be curious why!
I've had 3 of Barber's overdrives (LTD's) on my board for years including a rare single channel "UnLimited" LTD... David does overdrives better than anyone, imo..
I know you don't like modeled amps, but I wish you would demo Neural DSP's Tone King and Morgan Amp Suite. They have a 14 day free trial so you would not have to buy them.
Yes I’m still running the alnico, but I filmed this video before I swapped, so you’re hearing the ET65 here. We decided to wait to release the video until they had another batch of pedals ready to ship.
