Just when I think I’ve learned everything about WW2, a story like this comes along and I learn something new. Thank you for sharing this interesting story and keep up the excellent work.
Was installing a pool table for a retired doctor in 2012 in Atlanta. Got talking to him and found out he was born and raised in Hawaii. He lived in apartments next to Hickham Field vwhere his dad was a civilian contractor. He said they were getting in the car to go to church when Japanese planes swooped in and started dropping bombs. He was 9 years old and witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor. Don't know if he went to the game.
Thanks for watching and the story. Chances are he went to the game but I'm sure there were other things on mind associated with that time. I went to Willamette University about a decade ago to visit someone and that was how I originally heard about it
I saw the ship they took to Hawaii was SS Lurline, intersting side note the ships overnight radio man picked up strange radio signals two straight nights that emanated from the North Pacific. Some Historians theorized he may have picked up limited radio traffic of the Japanese attack force. He reported this to military authorities in Hawaii upon arrival. But appears little was obviously made ofbthe information.
