Thank you so much! I've avoided stranded knitting because of the messiness of twisted yarns! Now, I'll give it a try!!

Thank you! I always have uneven tension in my color knitting because I’m always worrying about the knitting pulling on the front side. This is a great way to help with that! Thank you❤❤❤

Hi Maryna. This is so interesting to me as I am half Armenian! Well not just for that because you come up with these amazing techniques! I wish I could share this with my mom. Sadly, we lost her in 2019. She was a great quilter, knitter and crocheter. She loved Bargello and cross stitch too. This technique is amazing! Thanks so much for sharing! Have a wonderful weekend!💞

Many thanks. Sadly the past 20 months has been filled with loss including our dad in the summer of 2021, a young cousin killed in a skiing accident and 4 other relatives. It’s been a hard time so your videos are a very real blessing to me. Keep up the great content! Much appreciated!💞

Maryna, that's a fabulous technique. I think it would be easier in the round not having to deal with purling. Thank you for all your wonderful tutorials.

This is the Philosopher's wool technique of catching floats.

Thank you for the tip. I've just checked a tutorial about this method on the Philosopher's Wool website. The method they describe is similar, but they don't drop the strands and don't twist them after each stitch as they do with the Armenian knitting method. Happy knitting :-)

Thank you so much for this, I had no idea about it. I tried colour work once but because of how tight it came out I undid it and never tried it again. Saving this video for future!

So interesting. Definitely going to try this. I find my tension is uneven and tight when doing stranded knitting as, apart from anything else, I'm not great holding yarn in my left hand. I hoped practice would improve this but trying a completely different technique may be a better solution! Thank you, Maryna, as always, for your very clear and helpful tutorials.

I’ve been doing this for years. My stranded work never needs backing. My first knitted project involved stranded work and I didn’t know what carry the yarn meant. I had to cut and redo it, but I didn’t want the work to shrink or stretch. So I tried different ways.
@druidsongevergreens

Haha I thought I was being so good by twining in the same direction for every catch. I was so close to efficiency

Love this technique. Hopefully can master it. Do you need to account for extra yardage? And if so, how? Thanks.
@10rowsaday
@10rowsaday Год назад
I have no doubts that you will master this method :-) As to the yardage, I haven't actually measured the difference in yardage, but if we carry the yarn at the back of the sections that are not using this colour in intarsia knitting, I would say that we do use more yarn. How much more? Most likely, the length of the yarn carried across those sections in solid colour. Frankly, I have no idea how we can calculate the amount of this extra yarn, because a lot depends on the size of those sections and the number of rows or rounds we work. I guess, it is a good idea to have more of that yarn on hand just in case :-)

Just ripped out a fair isle sock because I couldn't get it over my ankle and it's a sock pattern I regularly use. Am I correct in assuming this would work better in the round with my pattern? I was using both black & white fingering wool to make a houndstooth and my floats were loose but not loose enough for much stretching in the sock. Thanks for your very clear tutorial!

Hi Karen. Yes, this method is perfect for knitting socks. This is the only method I use when I make colourful socks for myself. Good luck, my friend :-)

Wow, I can't believe how stretchy the fabric looks! A question: With this technique, would you still make a point of staggering the spots where you catch the yarn?
@10rowsaday
@10rowsaday Год назад
Usually, I don't bother, but it is possible with just a bit of extra effort. Happy knitting!

I am glad you find this tutorial helpful :-) As to adding to "watch later", I didn't add any restrictions to this video, so the issue must be coming from RU-vid.

I’m confused how this could be faster than traditional methods. Dropping and twisting yarn every two stitches would slow me down significantly. I like the idea of maintaining tension and flexibility, but at what cost.
@10rowsaday
@10rowsaday 7 месяцев назад
It is actually not that bad. With practice, dropping and picking up strands comes naturally and happens very fast. Of course, if you prefer to use a different method, use it. I don't mean to push this method on other knitters, I just show other options. Happy knitting!
