STRANDED Part 3 - Manufacturer is taking forever to fix my 2022 Ram 2500 Cummins 😩

The update about my 2022 RAM 2500 is that there isn’t much of one because the manufacturer is making the dealership do and redo all sorts of tests and aren't just fixing it. On the upside, it’s been at the dealership almost long enough to qualify for lemon law, so at least I’d have that option and perhaps can use it to light a fire under there butts figuratively speaking.

I'd push to lemon law it. These guys need to learn if you're going to put all this emissions equipment on it they have to be prepared to fix it.

@brwiser We’ll see what happens soon, and not sure if you saw the second update, but it’s actually the PCM that is malfunctioning, not the emissions equipment from what they could tell. Hence all the hoopes and extra tests. People have told me the PCMs are exposed to the elements on these, which to me makes me think it would be an easier fix 🤷‍♂️ but I guess not.

Love my Ram. Hate Ram dealerships. My tranny went out (B/O Shift solenoid) called three dealers and all told me the same thing. “It will cost 175.00 to diagnose it and have no idea what it could be”. Turns out it’s a very common problem. Stuck in fourth gear, no engine break etc. went to a tranny shop, they checked the codes for free and knew exactly what was wrong. They actually knew before checking codes. Why do dealers have to rip us off. Best of luck with your Ram. BTW my Ram is a 2018 Longhorn 2500, 6.7L, with 131K miles. Full time RVer pull 16K 5th wheel.

@Larry Hammersmith sounds like you’re just out there livin the dream pulling an 5th wheel RV 131k miles in just 4 years! 🙌 it is a pain how dealerships can be sometimes. I guess they know some people will only have them fixed there so they can charge more and still get the business.

Agreed! I had a '17 Charger Scat Pack and it's amazing to me the awful dealer network Mopar has. If you're a "5 Star Dealer" and challenged by a simple oil change and tire rotation without losing your customers keylock, I just don't know what to say. How they build such amazing vehicles and don't have competent service personnel I'll never understand.

Not good! I also went from a Tundra to a 2022 Ram diesel. I’m hoping I didn’t make huge mistake. So far no problems but I only have 6500 miles on it.

The 2014-2018 4th Gens are the best. Got my '14 in 2015 w/20k miles. Once it hit 36k I did all the right mods (tune, 4.11s, built trans, head studs, bigger turbo, etc) and just recently hit 153k. It pulls my 15,000 lbs RV like nothing and is a lot of fun on the street (0-60 4.5s; 1/4 mile 13.0@102mph). Only repairs in owning it for 7+ years was replacing the water pump (80k) and alternator/batteries (152k); both I did in about an hour. Best vehicle I've owned in my 30+ years of driving, hands down.

The 2022 Rams are having problems I follow a guy out of Washington state that owns a fleet of these trucks he is having bad luck out of his 2022. 2021 in my opinion is the best out of the 5th generation so far

Good luck on the lemon law. There are too many qualifications that need to be met to allow that to occur, and it's not a freebie truck. It takes a minimum of 3 visits for the same concern, needs to be a safety issue, yadda yadda. The fact that it's only been there 9 days is still a long ways away from any action to be forced against FCA motors. Best of luck though. My 2019 Laramie 6.7 has been flawless so far with just under 36K.

@Dave Zaino I was chatting with a neighbor l, he had lemon lawed a car a long time ago, he was saying if it’s in the shop for 30 days for the same issue then you have a start. I’m at 27 days as of right now. I really don’t want to though, even if they swapped trucks, it would be such a pain to move my sliders over, probably wouldn’t get credit for my tire updated, etc. more so considering using it to light a fire under them.

Gavin so the problem is- you're paying on a vehicle you can't drive. A new vehicle at that. Unacceptable. I know you say it's the computer but it's all the same root problem. Emissions controls that they don't understand and more than likely replacing parts until the issues fixed. Again- I love my 2500, but this is 100% how dealerships work these days (at least CDJ)

@brwiser bottom line is you’re right. All politeness aside towards Ram, it is unacceptable that a new truck (but not new in design) is having such serious issues that are difficult to fix and have such a long down time.

So here’s my story from my 2020 Cummins 3500. The rpm gauge wasn’t working like it shoild which means you need a whole new cluster. I had to leave it at the dealership so they could order a new cluster and the mileage couldn’t change. So if it had 40k on it they had to order the new cluster programmed with 40k. FCA was of zero help to me. The dealer could only loan me a 1500 v6. I spent over $1000 on rental charges from enterprise and only got about 30% reimbursement from FCA. When my 21 had emissions issues in February, the dealer I went to got FCA to cover all rental charges from enterprise and got me in and out in two days. They were amazing. I can’t say that for other dealers though.

just curious, what is the build date on your ram? mine was june of 22 and hopefully its not a build date issue.

My build date was 10/21 so hopefully by then they fixed the pcm issues. June is about when mine evidenced default, and it was somewhat of a known problem by then.

I really hate that you’re getting dumped on/abandoned/screwed over by RAM. But just another reason for me to buy a Chevy/Duramax. I was leaning towards a RAM, but seeing how RAM is treating you this way has lost them yet another customer.

@Jim Lelan I’m with you on that. I understand that things happen, and I don’t mind that it broke. No manufacturing process is perfect. But the way they just keep asking for more testing and more testing instead of approving the repair the dealership diagnosed multiple times already - that’s where they’re falling short.

@Jim Lelan it’s too bad, because Ram is such an awesome brand. Big, heavy, beefy trucks with the best logo of any vehicle… but then this. Although at the same time I blame the EPA more than Ram, because the system has no business being on a truck in the first place, so I’m sure Ram is trying to figure it out just the same.
