Tom, your videos are just so good. Have you ever thought about doing an instructional video series? How to research, get permissions, probing strategies, digging tools and techniques, etc. I think you could put it behind a paywall and make good money. I’d be a customer for sure. Keep up the good work.

I doubt that anyone cares, but König is German for "king" (as in Dr. August König's Hamburger Tropfen). The word "Tropfen means "drops", so it once contained a liquid medicine that's from the city of Hamburg. Whatcha wanna bet it contained some kind of drug that's illegal now!? 😵‍💫 Those Victorians especially loved their cocaine and opium! I have an old bottle from @ 1900 that still has a label, and it contained processed indica cannabis. I've seen other patent meds that contain sativa cannabis. Before pharmaceutical drugs, cannabis was prescribed often, and doctors were knowledgeable about how the 2 types were different and what ailments they helped. Indica was often combined with opium to induce sleep. They should have stuck with the Indica and outlawed the opiates, which can make one go to sleep forever!

Question: what got you into digging these pits for the bottles? Have a great day
@BelowthePlains
@BelowthePlains 11 месяцев назад
thanks! you have a great day as well! and Tom got into it when he was like 10 and he moved to a farm. i guess he was just out there, in his shelter belt exploring, and he found the trash dump. he started looking up some of the stuff he found online, and he started talking to some people and they told him about the outhouses, and then he managed to find his, and the rest is history. i think he found a pretty valuable bottle early on, and i suppose that was a bit of positive reinforcement. Thanks for watching!

Nice work kid, I know where the original city dump is for Centralia Wa. It's above ground! Looks like a gigantic briar patch and always has. Should date back to late 1800s. Me and 1 of my best friends used to do some of what you are doing except we'd run into old dump spots in a ditch or something and find bottles like what you so laboriously dig up by just moving the rusty tin cans away. 1960s we had great fun and found many old bottles. I In - Joy your show a lot. Keep Digging ! R.C.

A good map to use is called the Sanborn Fire Maps. They tell you exactly where the privies are. That's what i use...
@BelowthePlains
@BelowthePlains 11 месяцев назад
yep! thats exactly the maps we use!! we show the at the beginning, but this one was on the outskirts of town, so... im sure there was a sanborn made of it at the time, but if it still exists, its not anywhere in the state archives or anywhere online. We use that birdseye map too. those are probably even better to use, because they show the outhouses sometimes. That birdseye map we showed at the beginning of the video is the only one known. some guy found it in his basement about 20 years ago (along with some other maps) and eventually he realized that it was the only one known. so the museum ended up getting it and putting it online. if you look closely at that picture, you will see water marks, and smudges.. it wasnt in great condition, but hey.. its better than nothing! thanks for watching
