Mike Skinner is one of NASCAR's most memorable late bloomers. He never got a decent shot until he was in his late 30s but was always fast when he had a good car. He was never able to win a points race at NASCAR's highest level but his legacy as a Strange Starter and savvy veteran driver will live in NASCAR lore forever. Enjoy this episode of Strange Starters.

I was so excited to see another episode of Strange Starters! Love this series! And absolutely, that 31 Lowe’s car is for sure the best Lowe’s paint scheme ever.

Mike Skinner is definitely underrated. The 31 was never the flagship of RCR but Skinner still did well enough. He drove hard and fast and got decent finishes and kept the cars together. He was not the greatest of all time, but when he went back to trucks he showed he had more talent than his cup career suggested.

@@FlashbacktotheTrack will do! Also before I let you go for the night. Quick question, would you consider Ron Hornaday Jr (my all-time favorite Truck driver) a NASCAR Strange Starter? Thanks!
@FlashbacktotheTrack
@FlashbacktotheTrack 3 года назад
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT He likely is. Need to a more deep dive into his career but he did drive for a lot of different teams and was often a fill in driver.

Great video. Love this series. Fun tid bid. Brett Bodine actually debuted the blue and yellow Lowe’s car on his 11 Ford. Blue and yellow is one of my favorite Lowe’s cars too. However, as a JJ 48 fan my ultimate favorites were the ‘06-‘08 one and the one name Old Blue. Lol. Notable shout out to his ‘02-‘05 one and the ‘10-‘11 one as well. Although there truly wasn’t a paint scheme that I didn’t love. Even the cursed White Lightning had my love although a smaller amount. Lol.

Won the pole at Richmond in 03 and then proceeded to wipe out two cars in practice. That was a disaster of a weekend

Brett Bodine had a similar paint scheme when he had Lowes as a sponsor on the #11 car

Really funny story about Mike, when Richard Childress called Mike to ask if he wanted to drive his truck, Mike says No thanks I don't really want to drive a hauler. 😂

I feel like if say Kyle Busch called him up to drive his truck he would take it i just think he enjoyed riding around 30th-43rd place same with Ron Hornady jr he had plenty of fuel left and still wanted to race and stil was competitive just retired because he ran out of competitive opportunities

Mike Skinner was one of the last “Good ole Boy” era drivers to hang it up. Something extremely sad about seeing that final start (and park).
