Strange World is a Strange Movie | The Review of Disney’s Sci-Fi Mid Adventure 

In case anyone is confused, this is a reupload of the review because the previous version featured a sponsored plug of Established Titles. Due to the controversy surrounding it that what they are selling may be a scam, I decided to re-edit the review to remove the that part and re-release it fresh and new. Also, for anyone asking "Why didn't I just use RU-vid Editor on the old one?", As an editor myself and a bit of a perfectionist, that thing is crap and I rather have my videos come out polished by my own hands instead of the tools that RU-vid offers that doesn't do the job all that well. I want to make sure there's no obvious awkward spot where I cut it out.

I went to see it just for the world-building and was no disappointed. I never get enough truly bizarre creatures in movies anymore.

After watching the movie myself your review is actually spot on. I will Say though that Atlantis the lost empire and treasure planet are much better than this.

Unpopular opinion: I actually enjoyed Strange World. It’s not amazing, but it’s definitely not terrible. For me (Visually speaking) is the most gorgeous Disney animated movie of the new ones. The story had very interesting ideas, but i think it should’ve been longer to flesh out more the characters. Again, that’s just my opinion 🤷‍♂️

I have two favorite scenes The first scene is when adventurer clayde talks with his grandson about anyone special and Ethan responds “well there’s this guy” and I thought “oh is he going to be an asshole and a deadbeat?” But when adventurer Clayde didn’t even flinch when he learned his grandson was gay made me so happy The second scene was the lion with a thorn in its paw scene, when Ethan helps splat after splat accidentally burns himself.

I feel like Disney never had that much confidence in this movie. If I had to guess, it probably had to do with the fact the other sci-fi films adventure films they made usually flopped (especially films like this was calling back to like Atlantis and Treasure Planet) but even if this wasn't their best film, seeing it shoved aside was a shame to see. It wasn't TERRIBLE by any means. Anyway, next time Disney's giving us their 100th anniversary celebration with Wish. Hopefully the advertising gives it better treatment!

It kinda sucks that strange world isn’t doing well in theaters. I thought it was a good movie. Maybe it’ll find an audience on Disney plus. But both Disney animation and pixar haven’t had a successful animated movie in theaters since frozen 2 and toy story 4 respectively. I’m really hoping Elemental is hit in theaters especially since it’ll be released 2 weeks after the released of across the spider verse. I mean illumination and Dreamworks are doing better than them.

Great review, Animat! I might watch this movie to see what I think but I won't expect anything like Frozen or Zootopia material. Also I laughed out loud when you gave the seal... to Legend!😂😂😂

It's rough and I can't get into their surface society, but I liked how the underground was laid out, the father-father-son dynamic was interesting, and it was at least partly enjoyable. I wouldn't say it's worth going to theaters over other stuff if you only see on movie a month. Just wait for Disney plus. I don't understand how anyone could give it a 2/10 unless they just want to hate what Disney has done recently more than how this movie plays out.

Man they really have yet to make an animated father son dynamic that is better than the one in Chicken Little don’t they?

I thought this movie was decent. Not Disneys best movies, but its not there worst either. I do appreciate Disney doing something completely unique and different movie and this is by far their weirdest movie since Alice In Wonderland. Great review Animat and take care and stay safe 👍.

Spoilers What I think the creatures are Reapers = white blood cells (because I remember that they will eat something to gain knowledge of its weaknesses) The floating red jellyfish things = red blood cells The orange squishies = platelets

Honestly, I think this movie is better than I thought it'd be. I really liked it but it's not on the level of Frozen, Zootopia or Encanto

Just got done watching it and it was alright. I like the father/son dynamic and themes and the strange world itself was fantastic (especially when you find out what it actually is). I didn't care for the whole 'Ethan having a crush on a guy' thing, but the animation was beautiful and I enjoyed the characters.

I realized that Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid reunite after the Day After Tomorrow, a 2004 movie.

I finally saw this movie on the plane ride. I thought it was okay.:) I also like the concept of the world itself.

Lesson learned today; Disney can make medocre animation that flops and don’t trust sponsors without researching them

I forgott this movie even existed.

Case in point, Disney is never flawless.

4:33 - 5:00 Your main reason for disliking this movie (the dysfunctional family dynamic) is the exact same reason why I didn't enjoy movies like "Lilo & Stitch", "Brave", and "Encanto".

2022 is definitely a terrible year for Disney despite three Marvel films: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever were the only commercial successes they have this year. It appears that Disney is going downhill again. History really does repeat itself. As a matter of fact, both Strange World and Lightyear are in the list as one of the biggest box office bombs of all time.

I wouldn’t say that I felt uncomfortable with the family bickering. It’s a source of conflict for the story, and I feel validated in that such a conflict was utilized. I can understand the criticisms people have about the movie, and I would even agree that it’s not as good as Encanto or Moana, but I had a fun time anyway, and it gave me what I was looking for.

As I said before, for a minute there, he had me there with the Animat's Seal of Approval. I did catch it in theaters, and thought it was ok overall. It had some really good ideas, but the execution was felt like a half-measure. And did like the characters, and wished we had more of Castillo. Also, some have said that the trailer reminded them of Body Wars (remember that attraction at Epcot?). Turns out, they were right on the mark. And I love the way the film opened and closed out, putting a Sci-Fi twist on a Disney trope, that was found in much earlier Disney films. Not every Disney film will be a home run, or in this case, get the Animat's Seal of Approval. Still, I will take this over Ralph Breaks the Internet any day, as that film has definitely aged very poorly. I know that I am in the minority on that. (Fun fact: Jaboukie Young-White has also voiced in that movie too). And on that note... They're the Clades >>>> The Place Called Slaughter Race

It’s interesting to note that Disney essentially sabotaged this movie in the advertising, likely because of the gay representation. And further, over 20 countries have refused to let it air.

Good review it wouldn't surprise me if it ends up becoming a cult-classic.

I guess my wish (Henry Jackman returning to score an animated Disney movie) came true.

Is it just me or does Disney have a bad track record with sci fi movies?

Personally, maybe this is just my opinion, but I find this movie to be very underrated. Sure, it might not offer anything new as a movie, but it did hit close to home for me in a lot of ways and echoed a lot of the sentiments I'm currently feeling about the relationship between me and my mom. Ethan would be the character I find the most relatable in this movie. I think this is going to be the Treasure Planet of the 2020 decade. Think about it. An animated science-fiction Disney movie released on a Thanksgiving weekend that is more than likely going to end up a box office bomb due to Disney barely advertising it, stacked it up against major competition like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (just like they did when they put Treasure Planet up against Harry Potter 2 and Santa Clause 2) as well as Avatar: The Way Of Water and Puss In Boots: The Last Wish later in December near Christmas time. Granted, Strange World might have done a little better at revealing more about itself than Treasure Planet did since it did hint at centering around generational problems of parents trying to impose unwanted life choices on to their kids and telling them who to be, but even still, they kept other details about the movie pretty vague. Heck, even Strange World has a blob like comic relief sidekick character with Splat in the similar veins to how Treasure Planet had Morph. It just sucks that Disney is doing Strange World dirty like they did with Treasure Planet 20 years ago. History really does have a habit of repeating itself, doesn't it? Sure, Treasure Planet's production history might have gone through more trouble than Strange World, but still, it just feels so coincidental how these two movies are so alike in a vast number of ways. Sad to say, I bet this is going to earn around the same box office numbers as Disney's other animated sci-fi flicks like Treasure Planet, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Lightyear (I know that one's more of a Pixar film, but Disney owns them, so I'm including it) and Meet The Robinsons, maybe even less than any of those movies. Audiences just don't care for sci-fi unfortunately which really does suck because they deserve better in my opinion. Maybe that's just me though.

With Encanto, my expectations were a little too high and didn’t become a regular Disney film for me to watch. With Strange World, my expectations were a lot lower, but it didn’t exactly wow me either. Even though Encanto wasn’t entirely bad, I still consider it and Strange World misfires from Disney.

It is kind of easy to confuse the title of this film with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds when you think about it. Strange World may have come out at the worst time because it shares two words with the title of that new Star Trek series. January 5, 2024, 1:37am

I think the movie was a flop not because it was a bad movie but because 1 it had limited marketing and 2 many people have issues with a somewhat gay character.

I watched when it was released on Disney + and I liked it.

Atlantis and Lilo and Stitch are in my Top 3 favorite Disney movies. So… Yeah. I’m actually doing a personal ranking.

This movie was ok. I actually liked that they tried going a bit mature with the father son dynamics. It made for a nuanced lesson. The animation and musical score were good too. That being said yes the characters aren’t very nor developed. Although I feel the real problem with this movie is that unlike other Disney movies the messages and other themes of this movie are so ham-fisted and forced that it feels like the movie is talking down to you.

I watched it on Disney Plus and I actually liked.

Never promoting this movie at all as one of Disney’s most idiotic decisions they have ever made, and this really worries me, especially by the time Wish comes out I’m afraid at some point that Disney wouldn’t even care even a bit with that movie, I’m like “Disney what are you doing?!”

Ehh, i dunno for me i think it will always be either Treasure Planet or Atlantis when it comes to animated action movies from Disney, even if both are the biggest flops in Disney history. Raya? yeah its pretty decent and i think compared to this movie is the one that has better world building and mysteries tbh, but the great fail Raya has is that its just one movie and it tries to literally stablish an entire universe on the first movie and its like trying to shove an entire season of Avatar the Last Airbender in one movie, if Shamalan couldn't make it work neither Raya, but i will give Raya something, if it was a Disney plus animated series instead of a movie it could had been one of the best animated series from disney in recent years that's for sure. Strange World has an interesting style yes that's true and its a very solid well put out movie, but dunno man this characters arent doing anything for me, neither the simplistic creatures or world, and i get it its meant to be that way because is a homage of the 60's/70`s sci fi movies, but i dunno man Treasure Planet kinda did the same thing and had a very cool style alongside that its quite unique to just Treasure Planet, where here i can see this style being used in any other sci fi movie and that makes it feel like the one thing that this movie does well isnt anything special. I dont know man sorry if im quite pessimistic with this movie but i love Treasure Planet and Atlantis i really do, but i dont see the appeal of this movie tbh, maybe its me or something and it has to be me but i cant like this movie as much as those other two for some reason, but hey if other people likes the movie more power to them at least somebody is having fun for me.

Even I had a good time watching it while I enjoyed puss in boots 2 as well but I understand this movie took inspiration from Fantastic Voyage and Journey To The Center of The Earth this could also show us that Disney’s running out of ideas

I don't think Strange world was that bad, not as good as Big hero 6 though, i've seen Raya only once and i can't remember much of it, but i'll say Big hero 6 is better then the two other movies

honestly I found the technology, animals and titular strand world just really bland it just didn't feel anything about then just they exist and are alien but it all fell flat for me the concepts are interesting just for some reason I just couldn't get grasp by anything

Strange World The Story: 7/10 The Animation: 10/10 The Characters: 6/10 The Movie: 8/10 I can't say much about this movie mainly because I didn't know much about this movie up to my first view, this retro style of this science fiction film is creative but its definitely isn't my introduction to this retro sci fi film in the early 2020's.

I absolutely loved this movie. I think it is so underrated. The family bickering doesn't bother me, because conflict is vital to a movie. I would rather have three complex characters butting heads than them fight the upteenth boring pure evil villain. I have seen other reviews of this movie. This poor movie was utterly crucified. I do like this review. It is nicer and more rational. I appreciate there is some acknowledgment of good stuff. I especially appreciate how this review gives no complaints about liberal themes or weak promotional marketing. Ethan is the one character that makes critics totally loose their minds. It is a shame. I am very fond of Ethan and think he is totally relatable. This review was very fair to Ethan, and I like that. I especially like the part where the review briefly refers to Ethan's boyfriend so matter of factly. It is as if that romance was no big deal. That is great. That is awesome! More of that please. You can be either positive or neutral to characters like Ethan. Whatever you do, don't freak out.

It was bland, forgettable and preachy. It's not the worst in the canon, but definitely in my bottom five.

Atlantis & Treasure Planet is better

You pinned it. Males all look like funny Popeye cartoon characters. Female characters, more realistic or positively styled. Anyway, seen film second time. The first viewing, completely upsetting. Now know why. The Timing. This was a Thanksgiving ? Family ?? Release. To me, this was low Key, anti family; anti multicultural; and anti male. “ See we did everything YOU wanted, ( Put IT ALL IN Same Film ) and it failed !!! “ Have all human characters … stylized to succeed, and release film LIKE THIS, Early or late September ( Beginning school year, or edge of Halloween 🎃 releases.) Or, just after New Years … or end of Spring. This film seems to be targeting students, that understand biology and chemistry; this is when you catch them. Not Thanksgiving; with blobs, splats, ooozes , tentacles 🐙 and a particular bodily fluid, I will keep to my self. Audience first viewing, non existent. Just me, in empty theater. Second viewing; Sunday matinee. Half filled, with parents and children. ( Week or two, after thanksgiving ) Everyone enjoying film, and laughing at jokes. I personally, even like it, little bit more; but, artsy edgy audiences are present at beginning of school year and early fall. [No promotion, Funny Looking Males, Over Stuffed, and timing OFF] To me, purposeful. All that funding, should have gone to teams, that love DISNEY Brand; and DISNEY Audiences. Not those who hate them.

Anything Disney these days, I'm just not interested, and this is if no exception. In my opinion, 2016 was their last good year.

I'm not gonna go see this movie anytime soon, I'll maybe give it try on Disney+ but however I will say this, Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet are *𝙒𝘼𝙔 𝘽𝙀𝙏𝙏𝙀𝙍 𝙁𝙄𝙇𝙈𝙎* than Strange World because not only are Atlantis and Treasure Planet great films for me, they are also cult classics that unfortunately Disney never gave them the time of day to produce or create sequels to those two films in the later years. For example the El Dorado movie, I always loved that movie and ever since Disney has never made a sequel to it which is sad for me because I love all 3 of these films and the fact that Disney, the one company that makes dreams come true has never brought back Atlantis: The Lost Empire, El Dorado or Treasure Planet.
