I've seen a few covers of this from players who are pretty good too but Nico captures Adrian's tone perfectly. In fact his tone for all his covers is totally on point. So glad I stumbled across him on Instagram.

What can I say? Simply beautiful and flawlewssly executed at all levels. Adrian´s contribution to SIT is one of the reasons I consider it their best album, his best songs are here along with the ones of Harris, a perfeclty balanced album, sadly underrated and forgotten by many, the band included. They never play any song apart from Wasted years.
Absolutely amazing playing, I've been an Iron Maiden fan since I was a kid when number of the beast was released, I love the first two albums with Paul but when bruce dickinson joined that was the ultimate line up, bruce, Steve, Adrian, Nicko and Dave, that's the ultimate Maiden and their albums are phenomenal. Thank you very much.
Somewhere in time was my first Iron Album. I guess I played over 1000 times. And this is one of the best (the best?) on that album. It’s fantastic how you play this song!
Perfect! When I want to show Iron Maiden music to a non initiated, that s the musical part that I use! The melodic part in sync with the bass and the build up to the almost bluesy crescendo is second to none. I m so priviledge to have whitnessed that song live in Québec in 1999... Merry Christmas !
It's a fantastic composition and that solo section is a thing of absolute beauty! I caught that tour in Montreal and I was really glad to hear them play this song! I'd love to see them do it again sometime ☺️

I appreciate that you chose to do Stranger in a Strangeland. I love all Maiden songs but I really started admiring Adrian's approach to song writing, with his very clever riffs, great lyrics, and solid construction from beginning to end
I remember when I first got this cassette tape played until my parents couldn't stand it anymore great album. Hope they come to the states with this tour

Great playing and certainly so close to the guitar tone on that album and the song itself. The first solo I learned from Somewhere in time back in 86, classic tasteful Adrian Smith stuff ;)
Funny how the lyrics were written literally about an arctic explorer whose body was found frozen in the ice and snow. But with the way it's written, the interpretations can become quite personal... which is a really cool thing!

Awesome job, you killed that solo bro! It's really interesting that the band decided to opt for a fade-out at the end of the song, there are very few Maiden tracks that finish this way. But it suits the song perfectly.

Please make a tutorial explaining the assembly of the tones (overdrive, phaser, delay, chorus, reverb ...), mainly those used in Live After Death and Somewhere In Time. I thank you in advance.
I honestly would have to do a little more research on that because I am not the best guy when it comes to copying album sounds. The way I copy the tones has much more to do with the way to attack the strings and there are a lot of subtleties. I am planning some tutorials to help with that so please do look out for those in the future! 😊
Hey Nico. Merry Christmas from New Zealand! On this song,are you using the neck pickup for the first part of Adrians solo? I have his sdxq but have a SD hotrails pickup coming that I will be replacing the neck pick up with. Just because I love the way Dave's first solo sounds in powerslave.
Hey, Merry Christmas to you! Yeah I'm pretty sure I was using the neck pickup on the slow solo. It's a SD Vintage Hot Stack, which contrary to what its name might suggest, is a fairly low output pickup. I'm pretty sure Adrian was using either the bridge or bridge & middle on the original but I just liked how it sounded on the neck. SD Hotrails impressed me a whole lot on the Dave Murray Strat so I'm sure you'll love it! Cheers 🤜🤛
@@LicksOfTheBeast thanks for the info. What would be your first choice to replace the neck pickup with? I've already swapped out the bridge pickup with a super distortion but can't find the cobalt neck pickup Adrian uses on its own. Can only find bridge, middle and neck sets.
@@kiwisamurai69 I am by no means an expert on pickups so this is juF based on my limited experience: If you want it to have Strat tones, I find the Fender noiseless to be quite good. I they're stock for the middle and neck position in my Deluxe Fat Strat and in over 20 years I have never felt the need to change them. They're great! If you want something more modern, maybe take a look at the Dimarzio Injector pickup. That might be a little closer to that SCN high definition clean sound than the Fender pups.
