That guy is Danny Stein he was in for 15 years for robbing a taylor in central London. Sadly stien kicked the shite out of the taylor and his taylor dummy
I love it when his only witness whose a blind devout Catholic ,decides after all he won't be giving evidence for his only friend in that jail as he's decided that for the first time in his life he doesn't want to be some one who might be seen as being a liar...Priceless. My twenty six year old son was watching this with me and asked "where are all the computers and CCTV".
SO MR WONDER, YOU AND MR MAGOO WINESSED THE ROBBERY, CAN YOU PLEASE POINT OUT WHO YOU SAW? PLEASE DONT POINT AT ME STEVE AM THE JUDGE AND I WAS IN WAITROSE WHEN IT HAPPENED,
17:00 That lad was so utterly stitched up for reporting the officer. You could see it unfolding at each point. I couldn’t believe it when the doctor said “It is not possible that mark could be made by a fist or keys, It was so slight”. He had a black eye and a bruised face! Ffs. And then the other guy dropped his statement for no reason! 😂 I thought they were going to say he did it himself on the window bars at first, But then they couldn’t also say the injury was so slight it couldn’t be a fist or key as well. The despair in his face in the governors office was palpable when he realised that there was nothing he could say they were never going to wreck an officers career just for as assault! (Not in 1980 anyway).
But didn't the other guy admit (to the camera at least) that his statement was made up? I think he should not have told the lie in the first place, but fortunately he did withdraw the statement. But I agree with your second point, that just because the assault by the officer was not proven does not mean that the allegation was malicious.
That doctor was totally based as he probably is in every case which is no doubt why they use him. Imagine te decisions he makes when the cameras aren't rolling..
happens all the time, its normally trouble causers who get corrupt treatment and theres some logic to it, but that dump was treating everyone they didnt like in this way, thats why the riots happened
it wasnt a lie, he got paidthreatened to assist him and then withdraw. made the other guy look like a liar. hes probably a sex offender or robs old ladies, looks the typed@@aerialexplorer772
POs and prison staff stick together, they defend each other, they refuse to allow anything to happen to each other due to what a prisoner says about them to anyone. That's how it works and that's how it's always worked. There's no changing things in that environment regarless.
He got extra bread to keep mouth shut .think the two women who set there know he was telling truth .what get me is two screws standing right next to you eash side I snap at them .pack of trun keys and kickers the screws are all same police woth have them so the go to be prison officer.
Everybody involved in this should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Convicting a man via a kangaroo court with no legal representation!?? His case cannot be proven therefore he's lying!?? Imagine if real courts worked like this, if victims of rape were punished for lying because there wasn't enough evidence to convict their rapist! It seems like they're treated like scum because they're convicts but they still should be protected by the basic human rights that all have.
Steady on govnor I knew Norman personally. He got banged up me and a robber called senior stu. 3 to a cell was new back then. Senior stu was a very big heavy guy. One night I woke and saw the senior sitting all over Norman aftir that I got moved out to the isle of wight I didn't know senior stu died while he was doing his stint for beasteality and necro. Him and Norman where very close friends
The woman magistrate went out of her way to cut short every sentence the lad said , and when mr schindler said anything too. We all know that screws used to hand out digs when they wanted . Kangaroo court indeed
Definitely stitched up, it’s absolutely disgraceful that prisoners are not allowed legal representation. In effect, he was awarded 40 more days in prison for objecting to being struck in the face. The doctor was a liar and the prison officers were complicit.
.... Like Liar David 'Skank' Cameron' Uttered..."" WE'RE ALL IN IT TOGETHER & I GET IT "".. OHHH THEY GOT IT ALRIGHT.. ""THEY"" GOT RICHER DID THEY NOT.... 10:25
So it's pretty easy to read this situation, to the point that it almost seems scripted, but I don't think it is. The lad was telling the truth, or very close to it. The witness was clearly duffed up to the body and given a liquid cosh up his chocolate starfish. The cheeky screw not only stood there and lied ,he had a big donking gold ring on his finger, you know, the type of ring that could cause a cut under the eye..🤔 The kid was illiterate and stood zero chance of winning anything against that crooked bunch. Charlie Bronson is a prime example of how the state can do whatever it sees fit. Nothing will ever change.
I've seen that exact injury caused by a bunch of keys protruding from a clenched.fist in the early Eighties. A teacher at my School tried to kick out some teenagers who had come onto the grounds from a neighbouring town. This poor guy has been well and truly stitched up by these arseholes.
And bottles going witnesses for his celley he was told not to open his mouth over him.hearing the screw hitting him.what got me is y two screws stand left and right side of you and giveing u deadeyes I snap at them. I think two women who set there know he was telling truth about what happend. As for his celley the got at him and mybr give him slap or some snout so not to say anythg ..
somebody got an ounce of burn from a screw to open dannys eyes. poor old norman learned the hard way theres no point trying to trust idiots like danny.
I speak from personal experience when I say, Strangeways was a prison where innumerable inmates were physically abused, assaulted and brutalised by prison staff on a regular basis Where Norman Brown the Governor for much of the decade prior to the riot, turned a blind eye to prisoner assaults, tactically allowing them to continue. It was a prison where staff at lunchtime went to the prison club just outside the prison gate and consumed alcohol, returning back to work after lunch a danger to themselves and others. Strangeways was a prison where prisoner complaints were ignored with impunity, where inmates were packed in squalid vermin infested conditions, three to a cell designed for one and held there with their human waste (in a plastic bucket) for 23 hours a day. It was a prison ruled with a brutal rod of iron by a small band of prison officers, where many staff were openly racist, where they wore National Front badges on their lapels. The prison was arguably the strongest base that the NF had in any workplace in Britain at the time In short, it was a ticking time bomb that on Sunday 1 April 1990 finally exploded!
What a disgrace how they could have taken a young man that was very unwell and the doctor that stood and lied on behalf of the officers no wonder the riots broke out not long after and I bet this young man enjoyed every second of the riot the boss of visitors were an absolute embarrassment they done nothing but make sure the officer had nothing to answer BOV what a joke
Hey dude I was locked up in slade for footpad offences. I met tiny tom and Grant staples in slade. Tiny Tom had life for killing a cannon at Chichester cathedral. The cannon saw tiny trying to steal the silver and silk. He'd be dead know he was 66 back in 1981 God bless him. Tiny used to get into roughs with a particular screw called Raymond hillier one day they scrapped in the showers tiny ripped hillier uniform off him and sent him packing
@@meichong8278 Yes it sure was the good old days. I remember once escaping from the maze. I managed to fit up a old victorian chimney flue. After tying two bed sheets together and pretending to be a chimney sweep called sooty. It was during this escape I bumped into Harry the Greek. A British guy from thorny island in Hampshire. He showed me how to squeeze through a 30 mm drain pipe without hurting myself. How I miss those days at the maze.
I miss being straight.. back then I was a straight guy.. I'm now bisexual with young Pakistani boyfriend. I seriously think that the media and society made me gay
Prisoners today seem much more violent and out of control (not due to 'toughness', I'm sure these men were much tougher) but it's because the screws here were lightyears apart from the ones of today. Took no sh××e, very firm and you know straight away who's in charge. The softness from today's prison system, its authorities and decision makers have now made them into a situation where the prisoners are pretty much running it. Serious question: Why is it that every single prisoner from way back here come across as far more intelligent and can string a sentence together, unlike today's?
Imagine how many allegations against the screws ever had a favourable outcome for the cons. Pretty close to zero I reckon. I wonder now, with CCTV everywhere if screws in modern nicks can still get away with that type of malarkey?
I doubt that they can even get away with looking at a con funny nevermind anything else!! The prison system is now in favour of the prisoner and nothing like this here, this is 40 odd years ago and back then even kids got a slap in school for basically nothing, these times are gone forever now and it makes me wonder if that's a good or bad thing really?
Throughout the 1970's/80's Strangeways was a prison where unprovoked assaults/abuse/racial discrimination etc. was dished out by prison officers on a daily basis. Most of these incidents would not be reported by the inmates as they would almost certainly be thrown out. Prisoners had nothing to gain and everything to lose by making a complaint Gov. Norman Brown was fully aware of what was going on. In the event a prisoner complaint was submitted, it would be custom and practice for prison officers to close ranks and corroborate one another's false accounts. Magistrates, board of visitors, doctors, etc. were all part of the system and, as a result, anything but independent. It was somewhat ironic there were prisoners in Strangeways at this time who had received custodial sentences for the criminal offence of carrying out unprovoked assault. The very same criminal offence prison officers were carrying out on a regular basis and received a salary & pension for!
That's all the are unwanted police officers pure bullys there odd one how is ok with you. Some are migjt to be social workers some social workers are migjt to be screws ..
I worked in the courts here in NZ. we have a similar system in terms of the running order of prisons. Board of directors , here in NZ its called visiting justices , they are justices of the peace who have no legal training.the JP's are mainly old white conservative people who have no reason to question the likes of prison guards or the system .Their decision making process was a comedy of errors . I had the misfortune of clerking these hearings . to describe them as a kangaroo court is an understatement indeed
It’s funny how they took his comment about hearing the screw had keys or something that made a similar noise and twisted it and completely changed what the guy said. I mean it’s here recorded that that’s not what he said. They all close ranks and protect each other. In my day which was much later than this the screws hit you regularly. It was just an accepted part of the prison experience. The cops as well.
Norman was a real friend of nine while I did my time. I remember a screw walking into our cell while we where playing battleship. The screw who was a conadion guy sat down with Norman and me and started to discuss future events over Tommy Robinson. It only clicked 30 years later wharf the screw was talking about. Anyways Norman got released 3year before me and the last I heard he worked for Mcvitie
@@Sheriff_GrimLaw This was 1980 Sheriff. Such a coincidence your name being Sheriff. This guy Norman. His brother Amon Barr went into be a sheriff in the Orkney islands. But was kicked out of office for having sex in his robes with a dandy 💯💯💯😡😡😡
I was on the side of the guards and thought this prisoner was lying, until the prisoner asked for a test to be done on that sharp object. this throws doubt upon the integrity of the guards defence and the whole investigation and the impartiality of the tribunal. They introduced that object as evidence and were obviously implying he used it to cut himself. At the end of the day the prisoner was not treated fairly, they made it look like he was, but, anyone with a ounce of intelligence can see whats going on here. However, saying this, i don't feel its worth getting a guard dismissed or disciplinary and mis-conduct letter in his personnel file, over a minor incident. They did listen, investigate and had a trial, even if it was prejudiced.
Feel so sorry for this guy. the system should pay for rhisand the people who convicted him poor man. I bet they look back at this today if they still alive to think o fuck...
@@zeddeka I don't think I have all the facts to make a balanced judgement. But, I would try to be impartial. If the evidence says the guard is guilty of gross misconduct then he should face disciplinary action and dismissal.
The way that sharpened object was then discarded as evidence once he introduces that idea is suspicious and withdraws this inquiries legality of impartiality. Too eliminate that kind of evidence that would have key significance and answered the question outright if it was a self inflicted injury so their investigation was inadequate.
I barely used to eat when i was down the block..it was screws doing servery like on this and i didnt trust the cunts cz you was always down there for fighting with them etc..i dropped that much weight whenever down block..not good memories ...this guy got stitched up..back then screws could string you up and they would all just stick together and nothing would happen so a minor assault on the lad was never going anywhere..shame for him though...some of them fuckers were inhumane back then and when i was doing time in the late 90s throughout a lot of 2000s 😢
Wonder how this investigation would really have gone on without the TV cameras. Obviously a stitchup on that lad , and the screws and prison officials were on best behaviour .. showing how none bent they are for the Telly. Thugs
“.. do you agree you have been allowed to say what you want in your defence?” The wording says it all. The guy is claiming he’s the victim. He’s not the one that needs the defence. I have done a fair bit of time in my day. In prisons just like this. I have met cons like him. He’s a door scratcher and I wouldn’t be surprised if he made it up and cut himself. Bare in mind he openly admitted he threatened to cut himself. However it makes no matter. Wether he did or didn’t there was only going to be one outcome. In the screws favour. The guy could be standing there pissing blood with the screw standing right beside him with the guys blood all over his knuckle and the out come would still have went in the screws favour.
@@SpeccyMan Thanks for pointing that out. Weird thing is I know that’s not how it’s spelled. I’ve been doing that a lot lately. Spelling things wrong and even forgetting to type out whole words at times. Smoked too much weed over the years.😂
What I notice about this documentary is how people are in there doing 6-9 months for crimes which nowadays wouldn’t EVER give you prison time . They probably wouldn’t even prosecute them. There’s people in there doing 6 months for shoplifting , criminal damage . Just like misdemeanors that would never get you prison time .
Because social attitudes back then were still absolutely Victorian. They had no clue that putting someone in jail for minor offences and short terms would actually make many of them twenty times worse. There was a kind of brain dead authoritarianism thoughout so much of British Society back then. We still had corporal punishment in schools. Anyone who didn't confirm was hit hard, with no comprehension that it often didn't work and made matters twenty times worse.
Having a society that comes down hard on criminal behaviour is justified as lacking that structure leads to chaos. Everything in moderation as being firm but fair is what everyone needs and society does need boundaries as we all need to take responsibility for our own choices and decisions wether good or bad, then learn from such experiences.
Banged up 23 hours and shitting in a bucket with a cell mate who you share a bucket with in a tiny room, i doubt anyone wants to stay, my dad did 7 years in strangeways in the 80s and the stories he told me world friken a darlik 😂😂😂
@@kenella74 After Charles Manson had served 10 years in San Quentin he asked if he could stay. He said it was the only place he ever felt at home. He later served 20 years in solitary in handcuffs, he said to most people it's the end, but to me it was a whole new universe. Similar to Tibetan Buddhist Monks who do years in solitary in Chinese prisons, they are not really there, they know techniques to put them somewhere else.
They are a bunch of bastards. Why do you think Strangways went up in a riot? I was in prison in the 70s for driving offences, Winson Green, Birmingham witnessed dreadful violence against prisoners from prison officers. I was threatened myself several times for trivial things. Some of those officers are worse than the prisoners believe it. It is the truth, and if you were black, you’ve got more than your fair share of violence.
Exactly. The scandal about the Medolsmley Road Detention centre in county Durham told us what was going on in jails back then. An awful lot of organised sexual abuse by staff against prisoners too.
If you can’t do the time , don’t do the crime. I come from a deprived background, but got what I wanted in life by working hard, not thieving. I remember watching this when I was in my late teens.
If I had watched this as a young lad - I was 7 when it was broadcast - I think it would have shitted me up sufficiently to stay away from prisons! Thing is, there are different levels of deprivation and whilst you obviously had the character and determination not to end up banged up, others from similar backgrounds aren't so lucky for a vast number of reasons. Maybe you come from poverty but were naturally intelligent, a lot from shitty upbringings aren't, necessarily. We don't know what goes on in people's lives so can't really make blanket judgements....
Well, arnt you the lucky one? Many moons ago I was put in this shithole jail for a crime I did not even commit. I did no robbery that I was accused of. It was actually my brother that did it but I ended up getting convicted and doing his so-called " bird " . I still maintain my innocence to this day. This conviction prevented me from getting any decent work in well over twenty years. The only work I managed to get when I got out was working with kids , as part of my probation that I had to do when I got out. I told the project manager I was innocent and they made it very clear they were giving me a " chance " and giving me " the benefit of the doupt ". It was voluntary work so I was not paid for it generally, but was " bunged " the odd bit of cash for my hard work. Point I'm making is it's not easy to find work upon release. It was not then, and I'm sure it's not now.
He was stitch up and outer celley he was giveing it I go witness then says he don't what to get involved. Could see the way he was in right but screws will stick like glue. Even doctor told said it was not from hit or slap.all the are trun keys and kickers the screws I seen in Ireland savages.

I was there in 1980. If I remember correctly, I didn't hear about Lennon's death till nearly a week later. On the borstal allocation wing you were locked up 24/7 with no newspapers, radio... nothing.
In a court of criminal justice the signed statement of the witness would still be admissible and the witness would be called to give reason why he withdrew the statement> at worst the statement would provide some mitigation. Ask why prisoners riot??
Even though the allegation may be true, the fact that he can’t offer enough proof to support the offense, the allegation is automatically considered malicious on the part of the prisoner.?!? That seems a little unjust and meant to discourage inmates from making any allegations or complaints about the guards. 17:39
