This was nonsensical and rambling.

i live in the area of strasburg railroad.............it went from being a real railroad to a tourist trap. far from being arm chair, i own a large block of stock in both nsc and unp, follow the rail industry very closely. no real railroad paints a locomotive that once ran in brooklyn and paints a hokey face on it to attract cheesy tourists to squeeze their vacation money out of them. those that visit lancaster county are here to be brainwashed by the so called "amish" and all of the tacky tourist traps that do nothing but pick your pocket clean of your money and you go home (mostly to new jersey or long island) with nothing but an over priced shoo fly pie, and clothing bought at outlets that would not sell in regular stores. just returned from an 11 day panama canal cruise, took a free ride on a brand new trolley line in aruba,(whole system is solar powered) even toured the carbarn, brand new trolleys with a retro look of the early 20th century, picks up cruise ship passengers and takes them to he downtown capitol of aruba. as well as a real train trip in costa rica rain forest. so strasburg is a hokey cheesy tourist trap like most of lancaster county and their phony amish sites. i also live near middletown & hummelstown railroad it is a real working railroad moving real freight cars and interchanging with nsc, it also operates a small passenger excursion division on the weekends and major summer and fall holidays. no sugar coating this line, i also do not live far from the reading and northern railroad. another real railroad with a small passenger division.

no real railroad uses steam steam power unless you are in china or north korea, yes union pacific has a few "historical" engines on their roster for excursions etc, but not for real revenue service, no real railroad moves maybe 10 car loads of cargo a year and depends on "day out with thomas" to generate revenue. the only difference between strasburg railroad and an amusement park railroad is the gauge of its track. also for the most part, strasburg shuts down for the winter unless you consider a santa train a real train, they also might move a car load or two in the winter, and do contract work for union pacific etc but thats about it, it sleeps like the groundhog for winter.

i also doubt very much strasburg removes snow from its track in the winter especially when we get our infamous nor'easters here.

do you have stock in this railroad, you defend it as if you have a vested interest in it, it is not just strasburg railroad but all of the cheesy tourist traps in lancaster county are over priced jip joints that only cater to the nyc or new jersey crowd that comes here to see the "amish" its all a big rip off. what i would have loved to see is lancaster county at the beginning of the 20th century................when the CONESTOGA TRACTION COMPANY (one of the largest trolley companies) published a book, titled "seeing lancaster county from a trolley window" i am sure that is when lancaster city was the center of commerce not what it is now...........the center for mid level drug pushers with 30% poverty, the suburbs filled with out dated roads and cheap cookie cutter shopping outlets, cheap flea bag motels, and jip joint tourist venues that do nothing but pick the pocket clean of hapless tourists who think they are seeing the "real thing". i own a large portfolio of rental real estate in the city of lancaster, there are many days that i some times think it would be awesome to unload all of it and move to an area not touched by the destruction that has befallen lancaster county.

so if there is a nor'easter that drops 20 inches of snow, and in the area where there strasburg railroad runs some it is built into a culvert of sorts, they plow the tracks even if there is no need to?
