Preserved Glasgow Atlantean LA 927 (JUS 774N) on one of its first outings after 12 years off the road for restoration.
Visible here are some of the modifications carried out and reinstated into the vehicle during restoration - The Security Screen, Fare Vault and Almex E ticket machine.
These were in response to trade union action carried out on behalf of drivers in Glasgow during the 1970's after a number of fatal stabbings.

Oh wow. Reminds me of being on the number 19 as a child from Govan Road to Drumchapel. I loved the sound of these beautiful old buses.

I love these older buses. They are better built and sound nicer in my opinion.

The engine noise is fantastic and I bet it smells good too. Very well driven, these are proper buses before all the euro emissions rubbish came in. I passed my PCV test in an Atlantean, I wish we still had them in service now.

Great driver! Sympathetic to engine. Proper pause between gear changes. Love those buses. Great roar from the O.680! Not sure if it has 'National' gear selector like on Mancunian Atlanteans or old type bolted to side of the dash.

Looks like it's the 'bolt-on' type but mounted on the cab wall! I think early Manchester Atlanteans (and Fleetlines?) had that type on the RHS as well.

In india Ashok Leyland used to make these buses & the company is still around & sells good in Africa srilanka india nepal Bangladesh & the morning bus i used to take to school sounded pretty much same but the engine was at front & interior was more modern .. they were using similar engines till 2010s

Lovely Leyland sound. Apparently the Atlantean could not meet EU noise regulations but today's Volvos and Dennises with their high-revving engines and wailing transmissions do!
