Nice job Mark! Brian underrated! This solo should have been ranked much higher on list imho! We didn't try Stray Cats back in the day but I'm pretty sure my 15 yr old heavy metal/ punk loving self couldn't handle it lol! My pal met him on 48th st during their prime and Brian was very nice and cool!!

No way I could've done this justice back in my high school days, though I had the stones to get up a do it along with all the other stuff I couldn't really play!! :) Glad to hear he was a nice guy. He seems it, but you never can tell. He takes the music (not himself) seriously, and his play really shows it. One of the best IMHO.

i’m trying soooo hard to get that last part down, it just doesn’t seem like he plays that many notes in the actual song but maybe he just plays it super fast?
@MarkZabel
@MarkZabel 5 лет назад
Hi Chloe. I'm fairly certain that what I'm playing is what Mr. Setzer is playing there. He's using some "economy picking" as I demonstrate in the video. However, the cadence is played in triplets and the first note is not really emphasized. Therefore, to make the phrase easier you can skip the first note of each triplet. (Instead of "bum, da-da-dum, da-da-dum, da-da-dum", etc. you can rest on the first "da" of each to get "bum, da-dum, da-dum, da-dum", etc.) This makes the phrase much, much easier because you don't need to use economy picking or to play super-fast. Good luck!
@ChloeMoser
@ChloeMoser 5 лет назад
Mark Zabel that’s what i thought, he does that picking but it brushes over a few notes so it doesn’t completely make the sound. i think instead of doing the economy picking, ill just play the notes that i actually hear in the song hahaha

I was fine up until 8:15 I feel like if you explained the notes in a little more detail like you were doing earlier in the video it would be so much easier
@MarkZabel
@MarkZabel 3 года назад
Okay, thanks. Two things that may help you generally. 1. The tab is linked in the description of the video. 2. Try to learn solos by thinking about chords, not always scales or random notes. The latter part of the solo is largely about outlining chords. If you know just your major/minor chord shapes and their associated arpeggios it's a snap to understand and remember. He doesn't embellish much over the latter part of the solo (except on the diminished run, which I explain in gory details, especially on the picking technique), so it's a matter of seeing the chord shapes/tones. Best of luck.

Pitty ...up to the last part you did ok...the last one is completely unexplained....
@MarkZabel
@MarkZabel 4 года назад
Huh? Are you talking about the economy picking lick it the double stop lick? "Last One" is pretty vague. On the economy picking one I give tab, talk about target notes on each string, show you how to pick it and talk about how to end it, including fret and string numbers. On the double stop lick I give tab, fret and string numbers and a scale anchor if you know that. What are you talking about? I'd really like to know what you mean by "last one" and "completely unexplained".
@dimitrisblatsios4706
@dimitrisblatsios4706 4 года назад
Indeed, the “economy picking lick” I am seeing this on iOS so I only see the video 9nstruction. If you added a tab, then I sicerely apologize!
