Yeah, JoshStrifeHayes video on NFTs said much the same thing. If NFTs and Crypto were actually valuable, Cryptobros wouldn't constantly be trying to talk other people into buying into them. If they were valuable, they'd be trying to keep it quiet so they could realize that value without others catching on. The only "value" they have, is trying to resale them at a higher value than you paid.

I think most NFTs are dogshit but…..regarding that argument, ppl buy and sell shares of stocks all the time, which have value, so I disagree with that statement

well, it's also a scarce image you can use as profile picture, that went a moderately amount of time into making. they might be generative but the individual pieces of it still requires effort to make, and if you are a fan of dr disrespect, it might be cool to have something like that besides the early access. especially if you are already into NFTs. But yeah, NFTs generally is a way to generate a lot of funding because people will pay decent amount of money if they believe a game or project can become very successful in the future, bringing more value to their asset. A lot of fans will even hold unto it just to brag about it, which is why they can even sustain such high market value.

Scam NFTs are like that but legitimate ones that bring some kind of utility aren't. Look at gods unchained, instead of throwing money at hearthstone and getting cards that become irrelevant every expansion you can buy cards that will hold a tangible value and be owned by you instead of stored on a server. I get why NFTs get a bad reputation but there's no denying that digital ownership is the future. I'd be much more likely to buy a league skin if I knew I could sell it at any time or hold onto it if it's a limited time skin. This shit already happens but people just have to end up selling their entire accounts which is even more dodgy imo. The most important thing is that a blockchain game needs to be just as fun as any other game, having the digital ownership and the ability to sell your items should be a bonus.

@@TheDogmam12 MTGO (Magic: The Gathering Online) lets you own and sell your cards. I don't see why NFTs are necessary. Yes maybe you could put the card on the blockchain, but the card only has value as long as the game exists. So it's functionally not really any different as far as I see it.

His analogy is accurate but it gets even funnier. You can claim refund, repair or switching for the same with proof in every contract since the lex romana. So whatever NFTs actually are, they apparently do not even guarantee that but the most simple bill from mcdonalds gives you those rights if something's wrong with your cheeseburger .

It can still hold value the same way any collectible can, no matter if it loses it's function on the game. As long as it's hosted on a blockchain. Now depending on the game's relevancy and whatever the item was, it might not be worth much or anything at all. It just depends on who gives it value. Just like any collectible. A Pokemon card is just a piece of cardboard to some, and worth gold to others. Inb4 you make the whole 'I can save the pic, now I own it' argument, and I make the whole 'if I take a picture of the Mona Lisa, it means I own it' argument. First understand what a blockchain is. Then understand how anything gains value in the first place. This seems to be the core problem with people's understanding.

But the value you claim they add is also a fabrication. You're essentially drawing a pencil line on a piece of paper and trying to convince other people that it's valuable because you drew it in commemoration of something else. Yet anyone with a functioning brain realizes that a line drawn on a piece of paper isn't valuable by itself. NFTs are an attempt at grafting collectibility onto things or items which didn't need and/or didn't have it in the first place. Nothing more. And you can't make a comparison to real money either, because NFTs aren't used as a bartering system. A dollar note drawn with a pencil and crayon doesn't hold value. Though at least a real-life physical drawing can be folded into a paper airplane for entertainment or used to light a fire, while an NFT takes energy to create and is good for nothing. A screenshot taken from a game you've played can hold infinitely more tangible and concrete value than an NFT ever could, regardless of whether it can be copied. It can hold almost any amount of information that you would find valuable, be it time, place, items, characters, scenes, stories, quotes and more. Meanwhile the NFT is just, in essence, its own unique string of letters and numbers stored on some server somewhere. Uniquely useless, as collectible as a uniquely crumpled piece of paper in a trash can and infinitely less valuable as fuel and compost. It's not that people don't understand. It's that people aren't dumb. And while I understand that there are some unfortunate souls who invested all of their savings into this pyramid scheme and are now desperate to pass the scam along to other people to recover their money, doing so makes them no better than the people who scammed them in the first place.

But there's a ton of new networks being created with better technology with way less value just because of their time in the space. Which will most likely heavily change in the next couple of years. The NFT is going to be valuable or trash based off the success of Doc, his game, and brand. The NFT is essentially buying stock and every time you turn and sell it at let’s say a higher value then Doc and team will get a commission or percentage off every single sale/trade because of the code in the NFT on the Blockchain. So he’s incentivized to give a lot of voting power, rewards, events, etc to boost his NFT/Stock

@@Vakator-29 thing is about the pictures and stuff, usually you don't even own the item it's associated with. You own the spot on the block chain. That's it. Whatever item it's associated with is not required to be a part of the NFT and usually isn't. It's just **associated** with that spot on the Blockchain but isn't legally yours 99% of the time. Moreover NFT's CAN be useful, but not as they are rn. I think they're a good technology that can help push digital ownership and help better keep track of online purchases. But as they're being used rn they're both asinine and usually straight up scams

And the thing is that, if the government gets involved in enforcing NFTs that is a complete contradiction to the fundamental nature of crypto and NFTs, which is to be DECENTRALIZED, not having something overseeing it but being safe and enforceable by its own mechanics, when you get the government to regulate it then it loses its whole reason to exist

Thats just not the case. Once you have purchased an NFT it stays in its current form and cannot be altered by anyone including you or the creator. It's the entire point of the blockchain. You can de-list it, that's it. I love Asmon but he's wrong when he says the company can just take your item away. They don't have access to it once it's on the chain. Its forever on the chain. Actually, they have more access to your digital items now that you purchased on their storefront than they would in a blockchain developed game

@@fbi9007 you do not own anything associated with the "URL". you basically just own a few lines of code and a specific point on the blockchain. The image, video, tweet, whatever that is associated with it is not yours, and is not saved on the blockchain but on a 3rd party website hosting the image. And a million other people could be selling that image, tweet, etc. If the 3rd party website ends its service for whatever reason... you just own a dead hyperlink... so yeah effectively you own nothing.

Being able to resell a digital use license via NFT for a video game actually could be useful, but also it also really doesn’t need to exist on the blockchain to implement. NFT items in video games is only a way to further encroach on commodifying every waking second of your human experience with the only caveat being that you yourself don’t make any money off it.
