Lets hooe. Physical media is for true lovers of film and series. Streamkng is for those that just care to the level of being able to say ”yes” if someone asks if they seen this and that. Before streaming those often watchdd films on crappy sites as deeamfilm and such. Just to have seen it. Not caring about quality or being intrested about extras or cover arts and more. Cheers!

All it will take is a cool concept to get them going again...a video rental store/retro movie themed bar and lounge that serves snacks and drinks and lets you rent a movie with your first drink purchase or something...call it "dinner and a movie" at flashback video ro retro rental or something like that...not that I have given such a business a lot of thought LOL

I think physical media stores won't return because renting physical movies doesn't make much sense when you can just stream it as a rental. Selling physical media makes some sense still, but it's hard to get the best price buying retail, so that's a tough bet also.

I started collecting physical media 2 years ago and now have about 100 movies all in 4K, only the ones I love and rewatch. But now I will buy more and more because I love physical media.

Physical media is the best. I'm still watching old Stargate SG-1 and Buffy DVDs from one-time purchases that I made over a decade ago. I just wish I could get proper Blu-Ray of those two shows.

Were I live an shop recantly opened. They are selling phycical CD, DVD, blue- rays 1080p - 4K Music, movies and TV Shows. Doing very well succesfulwise! At the end of the day its in our human nature to phycical own have something hold it. Its like phycical Books. See it from an deep thinking point of weiv' Its about opinions ' Digital media don't takes phycical space Only Pro with digital. Phycical takes Phycical space but you own it. Phycical media on Games, music, movies its a million marked! Wounderfull VIDEO'S! Completaly agreed with everything you are saying!

They had a Labor Day deal at a local video game reseller near me. They have 10’s of thousands of dvds and Blu rays. Deal was buy 3 get six free! Came out to less than $1 per movie. You can really make a collection with those prices. I even find blu rays for $.25 at my local flea market

I'm not 100% sure on the ins-and-outs of the Disney-Sony deal - I initially thought it is was going to be that Sony was taking over the manufacturing and distribution of the Disney releases (i.e. similar to the Studio Distribution Services joint-venture WB and Universal have had for the past couple of years)… that being said if Sony is COMPLETELY 100% taking over the Disney library physical media like your saying, and they're going to raiding the vaults... I'm all for it. As a BIG Disney fan I'd go BALLISTIC if Sony re-did the excellent Walt Disney Treasures series for Blu-Ray... Leonard Maltin has been BEGGING them to do that, but it's fallen on death ears (no pun intended)...but now, maybe this dream has a better chance of coming true.

Yup I believe it. I canceled my Netflix and peacock and some other ones in 2024 so good luck. They don’t realize these massive streaming services with monthly subscriptions can be dropped whenever I want if they piss me off. Streaming can NEVER sustain. If they don’t cater to the people they will lose it all. Streaming has to do a massive overhaul and get rid of ads and lower prices just so many things that aren’t going to happen. Streaming fluctuates way too much for these services and the need a massive amount of ads just to break even. Streaming is dying. They can pretend like everyone wants that but people are stopping all together instead of just slowing down.

Fun fact: Film footage, all the way back to WW2, has an effective resolution of slightly better than 4k, around 4.5k to 5k. It wasn't until 8k that digital actually exceeded physical film.

I cancelled all my streaming services (minus Amazon) in January & have not regretted it! I don't miss it at all! I don't even really watch my digital copies as much anymore. With Friends coming to 4K, Sopranos, & Blazing Saddles just getting announced, we need Gone With The Wind on 4k! There is no more excuse about "cost & time", especially with Friends getting the complete series. Makes it a stupid limited edition $200 box set, it will sell out lol.

I admit, I will probably buy friends if it hits the $200 mark and I agree wholeheartedly on Gone With the Wind! It would be epic in 4k! If more and more shows start coming out in 4k, things will get very interesting, and potentially tougher for streaming....once you watch 4k on a true 4k setup, it is hard to watch, or listen to, digital streams...I guess I will always have Prime because of the shipping and it is rolled in with my IMDB profile but once the final season of cobra kai is done, I will cancel my last streaming service...

@@AVAPopCulture there's a few shows stuck just on DVD I would love to see get a Blu-Ray upgrade, Boston Legal, Californiacation, Scream Queens. I hate when TV shows only have a few seasons on DVD & a few on Blu. Modern Family has like 10 seasons & only 1-4 are on Blu, they stopped after season 4.

Good video you have here. I’m almost 35 years old and I agree with all these people that physical media is king and we should still use it, if we have any of it. Whether or not I’m a fine of any video content, I will always keep and use physical media and all its players for the rest of my life. I’m going to take the VCRs and DVD players that came from my grandparents’ houses and use them. When I start living on my own, I will bring all my VHS tapes, DVDs and Blu-rays with me for the video portion. I also am a music fan and have a lot of physical media there, so when I’m in my own house someday I’ll take all my vinyl, cassettes and CDs with me so I can play them. Why pay so many bills and fees for streaming if you don’t own it? It’s just like renting anything which is a waste of money in the long run. I would like to buy own Blu-ray player too. Yes to physical media for anybody. Thank you for sharing your story.

Oh yeah, couple years back I got that 70s show on for Blu-ray 1080 P, cool thing about that one is actually in DTS 5.1, and I purchased the old Adam West Batman‘s populate two years ago as well before they seem to be on shelves around the world, I have Smallville on Blu-ray but only the tent season, going to see if I can collect the eighth and the seventh soon, was not really much of a fan of the night season. It was kind of too cheesy for my taste. Yeah just in case I said ninth season nine, get it together, Siri.

@AVAPopCulture or when there was just 1 streaming service, everybody had it and was fine. But then studios had to get greedy and make it worse and confusing with multiple costly streaming that are largely pointless. My brother keeps trying to get me to get D+. I already own the McU, the good Star Wars, classic Disney films (live AND animated) and the good seasons of the Simpsons. Why do I need it?

Man, this sounds really cool, I’m hoping that Sony pictures will release for the first time in either 4K or just HD physical media ass Seinfeld Blu-ray box set, we already have cheers on Blu-ray through Paramount, at least I do, ha ha, come on Sony give us Seinfeld, don’t get me wrong. I love the DVDs but come on guys. Can you really argue with 1080 P or 4K at that level. Especially since Netflix actually had it put in a 5.1 format for the first time, at least a true 5.1 format for Seinfeld.

They need to cut programming. Unlike people who say they have nothing on Netflix, they have too much content. No one can watch everything. Not everything is available on streaming. CODA won Best Picture, but it is still unavailable on physical media.

@kevinstrother8712 the point isn't for everyone to watch everything, it is for there to be something everyone wants to watch... Hollywood video and Blockbuster used to carry between 7k and 10k titles minimum...Netflix used to carry as many as 20k titles, now the carry less than 3500 titles BUT they charge 3 or 4x's what they charged when they carried way more titles...and Coda is available on Blu Ray and 4k by the way!

I already owned friends on Blu-ray, however to support the community I would be willing to drop $300 for having friends on 4K even though I don’t really need it. We have to support those that are willing to put their necks out for the physical market. Otherwise they will not keep releasing Stuff for us.

Yeah, only come on Seinfeld so I felt I felt come on, I think also everybody loves Raymond would be awesome to have on 4K, most of those seasons were actually shot on film as well, the only seasons were some reason and it may have been a budget thing, which is the second and third season that we shot on Laura Rez, don’t know why, You can totally tell on the DVDs though, the first season looks awesome and season four on are awesome as well, the cool thing about everybody loves Raymond on the fourth season is they started shooting with higher resolution cameras, HD and white screen format, still waiting for a 5.1 from them, though, we got it from Seinfeld, but we need this stuff on physical media. Come on guys, give us Martin on Blu-ray, everybody loves Raymond Hell I miss old show like threes company and all in the family yeah TV. 11:59

No, no no, I cannot get with that commercial advertisement. PS, if I do stream most of the time it’s usually old TV shows or every now and then movies I actually purchased through a free digital license from the Blu-ray I have, or some movies I love them, but if I don’t like them as much, I’ll get them on streaming for like 499 to 799 but yeah, no no no with this commercial crap. That’s one of the main reasons why I left cable television, and the fact that you have way more control over the content you’re watching. But yeah, still love my HD DVDs just saw the Halloween criterion collection on my laser disk today, and probably I’m gonna watch some horrible movies on laser disk tomorrow night as well, did not really get back into BHS, I mean let’s just face it. Laser disc is like the superman of VHS. All I ever had when I was a kid just video cassettes here and there, my parents didn’t know how to pick out a PCR so they never looked too good, thing I love about laser disk is, it’s the exact same transfer. It’s a higher image of analog picture and audio. There is one thing that I do know that separates laser disks in stereo from stereo DVDs, I thought it was just me at first, but I didn’t notice that laser disks have Way higher fidelity quality in stereo than DVDs too. I put it on a simulated 5.1 or 7.1 and they sound but no, I was, kind of tripping out on how close to a true five point one. It sounded on laser disk, but I also have the AC three converter to experience laser death like Congo/Austin Powers/the relic and Forrest Gump sounds pretty good too in Dolby 5.1. I just recently purchased some DTS trackson laser disks and mad or forget about it, broken arrow and Crimson Tide, I mean, damn, I even got species on DTS and it sounds better than the DTS transfer that they released on the 4K, and another sidenote I said horror, horror movies not horrible, you suck Siri. 5:58

I hate to say it but the normies don't care about physical media. I volunteer at an op shop here in Australia and the amount of DVD's we've been getting donated to us is kind of insane this year. I think the normies don't really care in this country. With that said, I love physical media. I certainly don't want to see it die at all. But yeah, I think the normies are still very much about what is convenient and streaming is convenient to them. Disney has completely abandoned this company in terms of physical media and there has been talks of others dropping out of the race as well.

so, major streaming services, 2 of which have already merged with other services, are agreeing to come together and be offered as a bundle by a CABLE TV SERVICE - the direct opposition they claimed to be attacking as the "cord cutting" option - and also be offered at a reduced price where the SHARE REVENUE and have commercials, and you think they arent in trouble? It is merger, their services are offered together under 1 subscription and they share revenue...

Yes! And I love these! I am trying to track down the old one for big trouble in little china! They did one for it, one for escape from new York, and one for the first 3 halloween movies and 1 for the fog! I'm only missing the one for The Fog and Big Trouble... I think The Fog and Escape from New York are both still available from Scream Factory
