You haven't seen "Lake Mungo"? You should! I'll warn you, it's almost more of a drama than a horror movie, but it's still really good. And it does feature a few creepy things.
no I havent seen it yet....Ive heard a lot of people talk about how scary it is so it is interesting to hear you describe it as almost a drama...then again I hearda lot of people talk about how scary the witch is and I didnt find it the slightest bit scary....
I really like the "Friday the 13th" remake. As far as Jason not being supernatural; I'm pretty sure that didn't happen until "Part VI: Jason Lives". This movie took most of its plot points from the first four movies, so him not being supernatural yet is fine, imo.
hmmm he comes up and back to life as a disfigured boy who was in the lake in Part 1 and keeps coming back to life from every movie afterwards and can somehow, despite never running, always appear back in front of of people who were running away -he was dead from the start so he'd have to have always been supernatural right? I know this has always been a point of discussion but if his mama thought he was dead and he was in teh bottom of the lake -he dead IMO hahaha! but i love the remake as well!
Dude amazing list - when you started talking Tony Scott I knew instantly you’d say The Fan. It is glorious A+ trash. Mr. Destiny is fantastic, loved it since I was a kid. Donnie Brasco to me is in the Top 5 mob movies - one of the best. Blast From the Past is super charming. I think I watch School Ties once every 9 months. Some of my picks: Taking Care of Business (Jim Belushi, Charles Grodin movie); Super Mario Bros (1993); The Frighteners - (that turbine release is my prized disc); Hamlet 2 (steve coogan movie from 2008, absolutely hysterical)
@@AVAPopCulture not all of them there are a handful of 4Ks that are region locked here in Europe and a few in the States People Under The Stairs the 4K is Region A locked same as the Blu Ray is
@@AVAPopCulture Well, you're doing a great job and the content ideas you come up with are very entertaining. Also, I can't wait for the spooky season and you're Friday the 13th ranking and maybe other horror franchises as well, hopefully! Take care man
Highlander 2: The Quickening(Extended Zeist Cut) Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday HalloweeN 3: Season Of The Witch X-Men Origins: Wolverine Rocky V The Next Karate Kid Over The Top The Last Action Hero Terminator: Genisys
Yeah, I considered Inglorious Basterds, etc that had a scene in a theater but I kinda cut those in favor of movies that have movie theaters throughout or a at least a big portion of the movie with the theater and movies playing a central focus! Cinema Paradiso I did mention at teh end but it came down to just fun re-watchability Thanks so much for watching my friend!
Going into this I guessed Last Action Hero would be #1. When you started your spiel for #2 I knew my guess was off by one 😆. I didn't really like it when I saw it in the theater, I don't think the marketing did a great job and it wasn't what I expected. Years later I came to appreciate it's satirical brilliance. Edit: incidentally, kevin smith has a new film coming out called The 4:00 Movie about a group of kids in the 80's spending the day screen hopping at the local theater. I'm looking forward to that.
Lol right? The mic picked that up like it was right next to me and it is in another room ... I'm gonna get that steelbook too...did you order it on Amazon
Matinee #1? No one could have seen this coming 😂 Hey I actually just got this on 4K, most likely based on your recommendation, I'm off tonight and planning to screen it later. btw, I was thinking there was some movie theater action in "The Blob" but maybe just a scene from it, I could be wrong, it's been awhile. One of the Final Destination films had a great theater scene too. Good list though, well done.
Yeah, I considered The Blob and a few other movies (Gremlins, Inglorious Basterds, etc) that had a scene in a theater but I kinda cut those in favor of movies that have movie theaters throughout or a at least a big portion of the movie with the theater and movies playing a central focus! Thanks so much my friend!
@@AVAPopCulture Dude, that movie is freakin awesome! I see why you like it so much. So many great performances. "I don't suppose it makes much difference to you now Bill, but you didn't have a single cavity" 😂 kinda makes me want a 4K of Mant.
I was going to say that same thing, I can totally see them reissuing the 4K of RAD, hopefully with a new cover, was never a fan of that inverted negative effect lol though I have the Mondo steelbook bluray which is a 4k scan on bluray..... so I don't know. I need to see the artwork lol
I was ticked at myself for not pre-ordering The Wizard of Oz. Just got my copy. PS- Shout factory says they delivered Poltergeist II to you today . Let me know if you didn’t get it. I think Frank had an issue with the poster tube not have any ends on it, so be careful when you remove the poster.
I actually got it yesterday! I posted a picture on my community tab here thanking you!!! I really appreciate that! Too kind of you! We are double-featuring on Friday night with Poltergeist 1 and 2 in 4k! and I am glad you got a copy of Wizard of Oz! That disappeared very fast the first time...
I hear you and you've made some fair points. But Criterion has an excellent reputation and excellent collection of movies. So, when it adds a 4K version to its collection to improve its library, I'm happy. I wish you had discussed the special features that come with Shape of Water because Criterion sometimes adds new content. Did it with The Shape of Water? And how does Criterion get to advertise "Director approved"? Are the other 4K versions out there director approved?😮
thanks for the discussion! I do beleive there is 1 new interview, otherwise all of the special features and 4k scan are the same as the current 4k release....if he signed off on that release then it is director approved...some thing as only needing about 1% of a movie to be inspired by a true story to say it is "based on a true story" I would suppose lol...plenty of times stuidos work with directors on those types of releases, it is not just boutiques that do that!
SURPRISE physical media news! unexepected pre-order drops, Big Surprise Sales Announcements, and Umbrella's December Announcements coming! Pop that tape in, I got you, let's go do this!
The movies that come to mind for me are Inglorious Bastards, Bachelor Party, Demons, Last Action Hero and True Romance. This video has convinced me that I need to blind buy the 4k versions of Night of the Comet and Matinee. Never seen either film but I know you’ve mentioned both in previous videos so I’m gonna grab them!
Oh man, I HIGHLY recommend those 2 films!! Couldn't recommend them more!!! Matinee is perfect storytelling and an amazing 4k! I hate that I bought it from Amazon and didnt get teh Scream Factory Poster for it!
@@AVAPopCultureI just grabbed them both from Amazon! I was tempted by the ones on scream factory but I just don’t have any room for posters on my walls so decided to save $40 and go the Amazon route
Nice list, I just bought The Majestic on blu from Gruv for less than $10, looking to revisit it. Had a few potential TARGETS for you in case your unfamiliar with them, Blood Theatre 1984, released on blu by Vinegar Syndrome. It's actually going OOP and there's less than 50 copies left so I'd recommend going after that one pretty soon if your interested. Another good one is The Projectionist from 1971, with Rodney Dangerfield. I think you'd really like that one, there is an old DVD. And there was a Disney channel film called Phantom Of The Megaplex from 2000. No good release of that, but it's viewable on Amazon Prime and is "out there' elsewhere on the net. I'd actually forgotten about the Last Showing, there is a cheap blu ray of it.
I'm NOT double dipping! It's not my favorite movie. It's good but not that good to where I would be spending upwards of $70+. I'm more of an Evil Dead guy. I have the Groovy 4K Collection and the Scream 4K steelbook of Army of the Darkness. I'm all set!
Have you ever seen a TV Series called Charmed? It ran from the late 90's into the early 00's. There is an episode that you should watch, it's Season 2 Episode 18 called Chick Flick. All you need to really know for the episode is that it's about 3 sisters who are witches and fight demons. Trust me, you'll have a lot of fun with it.
oh yeah, I have seen a lot of Charmed -never followed every episode like I did with Buffy, Angel, Smallville and Supernatural but I know the story so I will check out that episode!!!
It is so weird to me that one has been mentioned several times and I just dont get the movie theater vibes from it....what am I missing? I've only seen it 1 time a couple of months ago
@@AVAPopCulture I would agree & disagree with you at the same time. Notting Hill, easily a top 5 RomCom to me, LOVE that movie, even have the CD, I don't see that as a movie theater movie at all. True Romance just has 1 theater scene but its the meet cute in the movie & tell you everything about Christian Slaters character. He talks movies the whole movie.
@@thelastmoviestanding see, to me, Notting Hill is all about movies and movie stars and that life for the whole movie -it directly affects their relationship and we see how "hollywood" and "movies" and "movie stars" are different and the same as "normal" people -once he has touched that life, he can never find anything or anyone else to compare to it - that's how it feels, for me, to make movies
@@thelastmoviestanding to me, I remember more of his Elvis obsession than movies besides the scene where they meet...and after that it is all Tarantino-esque dialogue and Tony Scott style and action -
I buy psychical media mostly I only pay for Amazon for mostly buying stuff with benefits not for streaming and I have peacock and Disney plus but I don’t pay for them I use someone’s account I will never pay for a streaming service cause I rarely use it peacock I only use for wwe ppvs and if a new movie comes out I haven’t seen and Disney I only watch marvel and starwars tv shows that come out Amazon it’s rare I buy discs and watch discs from my collection it offers what the streaming service doesn’t everything I need and I don’t have to worrying about subbing or them taking it away
@@AVAPopCulturethe ending of notting hill is definitely taken from roman holiday with the reporters😂 interestingly enough, hepburns my fair lady is also remade into Shes all that and i just thought about it now
I can think of a number of these like Demons, The Majestic, and The Last Action Hero, but the one that pops up in my mind first is the movie Popcorn. It's not the greatest or most memorable horror. I just think it used the setting of a theatre in the best ways to set the atmosphere of this underated film. An empty theatre has a creepy vibe to them, so I think the horror genre works best with these kind of films. Also, drive-in movies still exist, I had one just down the road from my house in Atlanta called The Starlight, which gets massive crowds still. A few sports related films I would suggest are Necessary Roughness, Any Given Sunday, and The Rookie which I watched recently and reminded me of how good that one was. You could include a number of others to that list from Disney like The Mighty Ducks, The Sandlot, and The Big Green.
Oh yeah, those have to pop up on a list like this! And I have been to Starlight Drive In MANY times - it is about 35 minutes from my house...growing up though, we used to go to the North 85 Drive In all the time - it turned into a Flea Market on Sunday mornings though lol
@@AVAPopCultureI can't honestly recall a sports related film I really liked until I saw Major League. I think of it more of a comedy. I know plenty of people who disagree with me, but I wasn't that big of a fan of Rudy. Some great performances in it and all but it's totally theatrics meant to force that emotion out of the audience.
Love the list. Have to be honest the first half never heard of them. I got super excited when Notting Hill showed up, seen it like 50 times. Was waiting for Cinema Paradiso but understand the rewatachable aspect. 👍
LOL nothing wrong with a little X-rated every now and then, your secret is safe with me hahaha....seriously though, there are not as many as you'd think!
