God, i remember hearing this theme so much as a kid.the atmosphere and music drew me in, it was dark,dank, and there were puddles of water on the floor that you could actually see your characters reflection in(which was pretty cool at the time), i used to love to play this in the arcade back in '96,, Alpha 2 was, is, and always will be my favorite street fighter. They got everything just right with this game, the graphics, the music, the art style, the gameplay. Just love it man.
RECHOOSENONE yea and I hated it man, it just looked so goofy compared to alpha 2's very serious,more realistic art work. Alpha 3's character select portraits were especially bad. The bio screen artwork was OK tho I guess.
Same here man. The moment I saw this game, I already loved it! I so love the art style of this game. Especially the character portraits that looked kinda like CG. Where else can you find this classic art style? Xmen vs. Street Fighter and the first Alpha game only? And to tell you a story, as a kid, my dad bought this as part of a SF collection with 2 discs along with SFII. This game was the 2nd disc and it's at the back part of the case which was not easy to see. My dad first played this. And then when I wanted to play it myself, I kept looking for it. I always played the first disc which was the SFII collection. I've always thought it's somewhere hidden at that disc like you need to unlock it. I got so sad I can't find it. Then I accidentally flipped the case and found it from the other side! Oh the memories! That's why I loved this game so much! :D
Jed Vasquez Nice story man! Yea sadly those street fighter games during that time period from around 95-96 are the only ones with that art style. Tho i do love the sf3 series art as well, its very good too.
the legend I first played this on the original PlayStation at that time as well and that is cool how they did the reflection of the characters in the water plus this stage fit him perfectly and the music since he's an killer also this stage looks like it will be good for an crim scene investigation.
Well, Bison and Gouken also technically survived it (although they ended much more weakened after it and had to spend more time to regain their strength than Gen)
Retro Gameing Guitarist According to Street Fighter wiki its considered cannon, he managed to revive after being destroyed by Akuma because he had a portion of his soul and life force in Rose, which he used as a temporal body (as disturbing as it sounds) before finally returning in a new restored clone body of himself (in a Voldemort or Palpatine fashion).
This is my favorite music for Gen, and my 2nd favorite on this game, next to Bison's. But that aside I must say Gen is a BEAST!!!! He would have to be my sensei, and I would hope to be as fast and LETHAL at his age!
Master Gen Vs Heihachi Mishima (Street fighter Vs Tekken) Master Gen Vs Shang tsung (Street fighter Vs Mortal Kombat) His theme sounds like a remix of Shang tsungs in Mortal Kombat 1! Actually I think Gen wins Cuz he Countered the raging Demon FROM AKUMA!! so he has Protection over his Soul and Shang tsung Has to Defeat his Opponent in order to soul steal unlike Shao Kahn Also Gen Moves Beyond Human senses! “He Says You can’t dodge what you can’t see” But Shang tsung ain’t definitely no regular human so it would be interesting
@TrueAustinite1 Actually, in the UDON comics (which are possibly canon, Capcom usually gives them some artistic license) Gen is Yun and Yang's grandfather and father to Lee and an unnamed father to the twins. We only really know that Lee is Yun and Yang's uncle.
Oro. So badass he doesn't even bother to use the other arm. Beat Ryu down in Ryu Final and in 2nd impact. Gen is my favorite, but Oro is probably scary powerful.
If not for Gen there would be no such thing as Akuma or Krauser. Gen is the first Battle Fiend to ever exist in a fighting game and he has aged like fine wine since he first appeared in the very first Street Fighter all the way back in 1987. Gen is the forefather of in game Battle Fiends.
I agree. The one from the very first Street Fighter has a strong tune and a sense of menace too. But I'd be surprised if they use it as the basis for whatever theme he will receive in Super Street Fighter IV.
@hasnienn -- Gen's SSF4 theme has a faster tempo & a few extra measures. While the Alpha 2 Gold theme itself contains some "sprinkles" of ancient Oriental instrumentation (such as at 0:37 - 0:43) that the SSF4 theme lacks, it still sounds like synthesized rock music with organ. The SSF4 theme at least contains a violin-based section that presents a sense of orchestra-like elegance. Of course, your mileage may vary. :-)
@TrueAustinite1 Hi, not asking you to prove anything but I'm curious now about Gen killing the twin's parents. Could you point me in the right direction to find that quote? Or you could just tell me the exact quote if you remember it that is.
@Kilesfactor -- In all honesty, I *started* with Gen's SFA3 theme after watching a few character playthroughs on RU-vid, **then** began searching for his other themes. It didn't take me very long to figure out that Gen's SFA3 theme was *****waaay***** different than all of the other versions. (Not that I minded -- but it was definitely hard to miss.) :-)
@TrueAustinite1 Thanks for that, but it could change at any time depending on Capcom's mood. I'm just judging by the comics as Capcom has used many of UDON's stuff like the fact Charlie's surname is Nash when in the Japanese canon prior he didn't have a first name (he was always referred to as Captain Nash) and now officially his full name became Charlie Nash. I do hope they officially make Gen the grandfather like in the comics, it'd be a cool angle.
