That Coronet is going to be awesome. Remember, Rush converter is your friend. When you open something up, give it a spritz. Thanks Brad 👍

Nice to see you challenge yourself with body and paint. Do it myself, including custom paint on my own vehicles. Finishing up a custom paint job on my 73 Dodge van. It’s been a 3 year project so far, but should be done next year. I’ve been watching Sprayway’s channel too for a couple of years, as well as several other paint and body channels. He does pretty good work for running a backyard shop and he’s good. Has lots of clever little techniques and tricks. You should have done more work to that door or at least I would have. Maybe it will be close enough for rock and roll and last. There was some rust on the inside front corner of the door. You could see it after you cut out the exterior rot. I would have treated it with a rust treatment product like Permatex Rust Treatment and sealed it up with Eastwood rust encapsulator in lieu of cutting it out. I use weld through primer on the backside of my patches to prevent rust through. Sprayway doesn’t do that, because he’s not a big fan of welding any way (he said so). You’re a good mechanic and host and I enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work.

Body work is a pain. Very time consuming. Had no idea you were going to do this. You were fighting the engine and the Holly computer. Thank you for sharing Brad ! Semper Fi 💯👍

Nice that you are expanding your horizons and learning body and paint. I do a lot of body, paint and metal work at home now that I’m retired for five years. Wanted to make a recommendation. When you opened up the bottom of the door to remove rust on the outside of the panel, you could see a lot of rust in the inside of the door. It looked like you cleaned it off with grinding or blasting, but you left that metal bare. Thats a no-no. You should treat that bare metal or rust you find on the back side or interior of a panel. I use Permatex Rust converter (sold at Napa) and follow it up with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. That is extra insurance rust stops on the inside and the panel continues to look good. The rest of the repair looked good. Stay away from rattle can primer. It’s fine for a touch up if you burn through while blocking, but I would use the stuff you spray on with an hvlp gun. Epoxy is a good primer to use over bare metal and after you cut it a little you can use it as a sealer coat right before painting after the body and metal work and blocking are done. You’re only going to learn this trade by making mistakes, because learning how to fix mistakes is part of learning body and paint. No one does it perfect the first time. There are lots of tutorials on RU-vid about body and paint. I suggest you watch more than one channel. I have watched the one you mentioned out of Alabama too and the guy is good to learn from for the basics. He has a lot of tricks, but he’s not a big fan of metal repair or welding. For finishing and bodywork and glass, he is fine. He’s a good painter.

I started out with a 66 fury I got from my dad. It was a 273 4bbl 4speed. Not the fastest thing I ever owned, but a great starter car for a speed freak of 15.
