I like Carburetors better, this Sniper EFI is killing me! This is my experience with it, just mine..

When my buddy told me he wanted to put a Sniper EFI, on his 1970 Dodge Coronet, I was reluctant as could be. I quickly realized that this thing was a bad idea. Will we ever get it tuned?

Brad, you're a straight up no nonsense guy. I'm with you on this one. I'm old school with my old Mopars and give me a good Holley or a Brawler 4 barrel any day. I'm sure there are sniper magicians out there but I am not and just want the old school vibe for myself. If I wanted fuel injection rack and pinion steering and all kind of high technology I'd buy a new car. For everyday driving I have modern vehicles but these old cars for me are toys. If someone wants all that,I'm all for them. As always,I enjoy your videos. Mopar to ya!

Been there Brad fought a system for weeks on a buddy’s C10 small block truck, finally reinstalled his AVS edelbrock and manual fuel pump, couldn’t be happier, system kept loosing memory if voltage dropped just a bit , than it flooded the motor for no apparent reason , that was the last straw.

Gonna try mounting the Sniper 2 on with the engine on a run stand first, get it semi dialed in, then mount it in the car, drop the engine in, and go for it. Brad, you’re the real deal. Someone else may have glossed it over, got help, and gave us the impression they were car Gods.

I saw some channel first install the first sniper then moved on to the next level up kit and from what he showed,he had to change almost everything except the fuel lines! Like nothing worked with the systems being interchangeable from one to two! Wtf?!? That sounds like a lot of extra money and b.s. wasted especially if you can't easily upgrade the old system with the new one with a few tweeks. I think they said it's easy to put the fuel return on top of the gas tank cuz usually our Mopar's have rotten trunks and we should easily just do it through the rot 😂 lmao! It would've worked on my 72 barracuda for sure! Lmao! Yeah, wrenching is bitter sweet!🤔 Lmfao she was abused young and you talked sweet to her,😅 sounds like an ex I had, more trouble than what she was worth for sure!😞🤣 Thanks again!

I hear you 100%, they are complicated, but you can’t think carb when setting up a tbi. I’ve went through this on a 408 in my ‘79 Lincoln. I’ve swapped in a 557, with the sniper 4500 now, the only way I get an idle circuit with dominator style air/fuel volumes. The only way I can get the distributor to advance or pull timing too. Keep at it, and the tuners with the lap top software can dial in way more than we can with the touch screen. I had piles of headaches with it, and through the process of swapping to an 800hp stroker, found other setup issues with the fuel system, grounding, and tank venting that effected performance and tuning where I thought it was all sniper. Great channel btw, cheers!

I’ve had a terminator TBI / HP ecu set up since 2013. When you’re tuning fuel turn the closed loop / learn compensation limits down to a low %, if the Idle isn’t stable. The TPS can also be glitchy at idle tip in.

I get your overwhelming feeling. Being in Europe, I was on my own on that one too back in 2017 when I installed mine. Like on your car, I needed fab lots of things to make a safe install. Including stuff Holley do not even speak about, like the must have inertia switch. 3 days at least. From what I see in this vid, looks to me you have multiple issues. Your blades likely not set as they should. Timing dist off and last but not least. You probably can see if it starts your AFR going 20-35. That will be fixed when you'll close your exhaust. But make sure your headers are air tight. Most US made exhaust are crap when it comes to welding and flange fitting precision, fine for carb, not for EFI. So triple check how they fit at the heads and if you can, ditch the flat classic headers collector by a round one so you do not pick "false" oxygen. Lastly, once it will run as it should, you will never want a carb ever again! thx for the vid.

Dude I put one on a foxbody and man the headaches started. It fired right up no problem and at times was awesome but like a BB mopar a SB ford has the distributor in the front and with a sniper 1st generation you will fight RF issues from now on. You can wrap in whatever you want and will still have intermittent RF issues. This is what I wanted to do was turn the sniper 180* with the computer in the rear and try that. Sure you gotta throttle cable it around but I just wondered if that would fix it? It doesn’t know what way it’s facing. Thankfully I sold the ford and lived happily ever after. Love your work and content but, man do I hate a sniper. TFNR

My first thought is youre getting too much fuel pressure to the throttle body. Have you checked that? I bet its going to be awesome once you figure it out.

Holley actually recommends installing just the basic system first, then adding the hyperspark ignition afterwards. I too, did it the way you did it. Couldn't get it to run right. Ended up stripping it all off, and starting with the basic system. Got that running great, added the hyperspark again and battled RFI. I'd get a brief power cut (No Data! display on handheld) and it would stall randomly. Pulled the hyperspark stuff off for now and will deal with that another day! Kinda dissapointing after spending the money on the entire hyperspark system.

Several things can improve that efi system use a Bosch 17025 02 sensor it's way better than the holley factory sensor also holley recommends you not use a dual plane intake and if you do run a 1 inch spacer on the intake or grind out the divider for better fuel atomization I used a spacer and the Bosch sensor then bought a progressive linkage to get a better primary to secondary response otherwise your 1 to 1 on them opening wear as a carburetor is more of a 60 40 sequence
@keithroute8906
@keithroute8906 8 месяцев назад
Holly should make a better system. All I ever see is guys like you who know old cars installing those and having no luck and having to take it to someone. They had the same issues, poor running and motor stalling at any moment when the car is running. Hope you find the expert who can tune the thing.

Listen up fellas, I had some hiccups with my Sniper, but I reached out to some guys that know a thing or two for help. You "old schoolers" can keep your carbs, my Swinger is a whole different animal with EFI on it. It cold starts and hot starts like a champ, driveability (?) is way better, elevation changes are no problem, and it's much safer with my centrifugal. Nothing is easy when you break out of a mold, but God hates a coward. He hates sin too, but that's a convo for another day. Spend the 4K, when you get the wrinkles ironed out, you won't regret it.
