Street Triple 675 Makeover | Part 1 | New Tyres | Michelin Road 6
Regular visitors will recognise this Triumph Street Triple 675 which belongs to my best friend, Elyske, better known as Twinny. I've been thinking of giving her bike a little makeover for some time, nothing too major as it looks great already but a freshen-up wouldn't go a miss.
I'm very pleased to say that's exactly what we did last year, and now I'm ready to start sharing with you exactly what we did in this new series.
In Part One I explain and show you how to remove the front and rear wheel from a 2011 Triumph Street Triple 675 and change the tyres to a set of Michelin Road 6, which I honestly believe are the best Sports - Touring tyres available.
I always read your comments on all my videos and I've been encouraged to see how so many of you have enjoyed my step-by-step videos and the advice I've shared. It occurred to me that although there are plenty of bikers out there who are mechanically minded and more than capable of pulling their bike into a thousand bits, there are also many of you who are complete novices when it comes to working on your bike but are keen to learn.
In this series I hope to share How-to videos that will not only help you if you are an absolute beginner, they will also be of interest to those who love tinkering and fixing their own motorcycle.
Have you seen...
Street triple 2011 vs 2021 Ten years apart, how do they compare?

Nice video incorporating the shop footage! Great look for the bike. A shop manager once told me to put my money toward tires instead of gear you can live without b/c you won’t live long on a bike with “sketchy” tires… At present our roads are icy and covered with salt and anti-skid. Looking forward to March!

Thanks very much, I appreciate your support. That’s great advice from the shop manager. I actually cut a piece of me talking to camera talking about the cost of tyres and how it is probably the best investment you could make. Probably the second best investment is protective gear! 😁👍

Awesome to see the tyres fitted by Motorcycle Tyres UK! I obviously missed all that while I was at work so really cool to see how they did it all... So thank you twinny for organising all this and for everything you've done to your beloved second bike 😜 super super grateful to you! And of course to Michelin and Motorcycle Tyres UK!

I’ve got even more footage of them fitting and balancing the tyres I can send you, twinny! 🤣 Thanks for allowing me to play with your beloved dream bike, I can’t wait to share the episodes when you get hand’s on, then our handover and ride out video soon! 😁👊⚡️

Nice one again Phil , always heard good reports on the michelins on the road .👍 can't beat the feeling of new set of tyres fitted to your bike .! I usually on my triple when I had it went down a few psi as well usually about 40/32 most times felt good for me .street triple looks good in the black .👍

Thanks as always for watching and for your feedback on tyre pressures. I sometimes drop to 40psi on my rear in the summer and have experimented with dropping the front from 36psi to 33/34psi. I must admit it feels sharper at the recommended tyre pressure. I hope to investigate this further! All the best 😁👍⚡️

New tires = new life! By the way, I didn't use to like the Michelles for motos, for grip and shape reasons, but my F800R came with brand new ones Pilot Power 2CT. And they're much better than the previous Road II, very popular here in Brazil. And I've been on track even recently, obviously not as a hard racer. And I'm very surprised with the overall behavior of these tires. Best regards.

I’m pleased to hear your positive comments about Michelin tyres. As I mentioned in the video I’ve ridden on track with Road 5s and they were brilliant but still offer fantastic grip on the road in the wet! Thanks for your feedback! 😁👍

Thanks Richard! I can understand that. I’ve had quite a few people tell me they aren’t confident riding their Street Triple in the wet on stock tyres, and we all know how changeable the UK weather can be. I was pleased to see that Triumph fit Road 5’s as standard to the Trident 660, I should really do some research to see what other bikes come with Michelin Road series tyres as standard! 🤔 Thanks for watching and commenting! 😁👍

I was considering Road 6 because I do feel some lack of grip in the rain and now Phil has convinced me! My front is almost bald but the rear is in pretty good shape I changed it recently for Pirelly Diablo Rosso 4. I know that in general it's not recommended to use, different tires especially from different manufacturers, but maybe somebody tried this kind of setup? Michelin Road 6 on the front & Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV on the back? Please lmk!
@TheAdventuresofPhilJones
@TheAdventuresofPhilJones 6 месяцев назад
I’ve never mixed tyres so I can’t comment. In my opinion if your bike is lacking grip in the rain I would recommend changing both tyres, I’m sure you could sell the Diablo as a used tyre! Let me know how you get on! 👍

Great vid Phil , Elyske Street triple already looks great looking forward to the continued makeover , never tried the road 6 but only heard good things about them. I have stuck with the recommended tyres on my Tiger sport the pirelli angel st (now discontinued and replaced with pirelli angel GT) I have always been happy with these and felt confident this is the reason I never tried any others. But I suppose its a little subjective , keep up the great work mate , safe riding.

Thanks Dale. It does look a great bike doesn’t it, but you wait until you see it in a couple of episodes time! 😁⚡️ Thanks for your feedback about tyres. For me I’ve owned and ridden bikes when the tyres have literally slipped away from me while riding on the roads which is a scary moment, and also often had the traction control kicking in due to lack of grip in the wet, I’ve never had that with the Road 5’s or 6’s.

I have seen lots of comments relating to tyre pressures on the street triple. 32PSI front is pretty much accepted, but for the rear 42 PSI is recommended for the street triple. Personally this feels too hard. The Daytona's recommended pressure is 36 PSI. Many recommend 36 for Striple too. As I ride one up, and the two bikes are basically the same I'm trying 36 PSI on the rear for my new Road Pilot 4 (I would have liked the 6 but too expensive for my pocket). It would be nice to get others views on this subject. Thanks Phil for another interesting video.

Thanks for your comment John. I’ve heard the same, in fact I ran my Speed Triple for a while at 32 PSI during the summer. I hope to create a video all about tyre pressures and try and get a bigger conversation going! Please let me know how you get on with the Pilot 4’s! 😁👍

We love the Michelin Road 5 and 6 tyres. Have them on all our bikes. Personally, I just wonder, is it ever possible to give an independent review of something given for free? When does a product review become an extension of the manufacturers' advertising? Perhaps I'm just a little jaded and cynical of the whole RU-vid influencer thing at the moment. Apologies Phil, still love your channel.
@TheAdventuresofPhilJones
@TheAdventuresofPhilJones 6 месяцев назад
I remember you saying how much you like the Michelin Road series tyres and I have to agree, they’re awesome. As I mentioned in this video, I fitted Road 5’s on my Speed Triple and absolutely love them, and would not fit anything else which is why I wanted to fit them on Twinny’s Street Triple. I don’t get many gifted products but when I do, I can guarantee my reviews will be totally honest. I’ve actually spoken with a few brands who have told me they want their reviews to be honest, and if there’s something I don’t like, then talk about it. I was encouraged by another tyre manufacturer to change my tyres to their brand so I could attend a track day. As much as would have loved to attend a track day, I declined the offer as I love my Michelin Road 5’s. That’s what I call brand loyalty which is something I believe in. I’m sorry you are feeling a bit jaded and cynical about certain channels! Thanks for your comment though, honest feedback is exactly what I encourage on my channel! 😁👊

@TheAdventuresofPhilJones I feel really bad saying anything, especially when you're working so hard in business and with the channel. We only look at the RU-vid thing as a bit of fun. The best bit is the people we've met through it, including yourself. Keep at it 💪 👍

@TheAdventuresofPhilJones
@TheAdventuresofPhilJones 6 месяцев назад
Thanks, David, they are great guys and know what they’re doing. I can understand your frustration about collaborations. I’m pleased that Michelin were interested in working with me as you can imagine how many people ask them for free tyres. The way I see it is the amount of time I spend creating videos, shooting photos, and sharing about my experiences with Michelin, is extremely time consuming. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy to do this especially with a brand that I love and have put my own money into. I also wanted to be very honest with my audience, I’m sure not all RU-vidrs are. This isn’t just any old friends bike either, it belongs to someone very close to me and as I haven’t been in a financial position to treat her, I wanted to offer my time and resources to freshen up her bike, which she also lets me use whenever I ask. So don’t get too pissed off, as the old saying goes, there’s no such thing as a free lunch!

I fitted michellin sports tourincg tyres on my honda vfr800 and swear by them even on frozen roads greasy and cold even if they stepped out turning out of an industrial estate the slide on the rear was progressive and controlled unlike continental or metzeller. Mileage was excellent at 9000 miles on the rear and front and they werent skippish on the front unlike the brigstone battlax on white linees when worn at 6000 miles on a fazer 600. Only the avon sports touring tyres outlasted the michellin but the grip wasnt quite as good if you pushed them but i do rate them highly for normal riding.
