German Daniel Corzo It's a great tune; but it's not really fair, here. They are not even in the same console. It's not the same kind of sound. Also, if you like NES music, I recommend you listen to the soundtrack to "Journey to Silius". It's almost too good for the NES.
Player One SMB theme is a timeless classic; but I don't think many people would jam to it the way they can to this tune. One factor that makes people consider this one a better choice, for sure!
@@outerspaceman7534 Genesis sound chip is the same Yamaha sound chip used in some of their synthesizers, so of course a staple of the Tokyo club scene like Yuzo Koshiro would be able to create some absolute bangers with it.
lilmattere It's maybe THE most recognised computer game music dude. Nothing beats the warm and fuzzy feeling that sound leaves in you if you were raised on Sonic.
On a technical level, it's impressive how well Yuzo Koshiro was able to sample those Roland TR-808 beats into the single PCM channel of the Sega Mega Drive's Yamaha YM2612 sound chip. It was an impressive technical feat how he was able to pull that off, as people didn't think music like this was possible on the Mega Drive up until then.
I still remember being at a family thing when I was a kid and my cousin Joey saying "hey want to go upstairs and play a game?" I was happy to notice he got Streets of Rage 2, we just kept playing that until I had to leave. I had to eventually get it because I was hooked. Over a decade later this theme came to mind, there was some old 90's song playing on the radio and reminded me of this song so bad...I had to find it years ago and kept listening to it again. Recently though, my friend brought his laptop over with tons of emulators on it, and I requested we played this game (after playing lots of others that I loved and missed). I was STILL impressed with how fun and vibrant the game was. The images, the characters, THE SFX!!!, the MUSIC...omg everything had me in awe once again. This is truly a masterpiece in gaming History.
Playing this 90s masterpiece at a club and here's a fun fact. This track has a lot of 90s dance songs mixed into one. If you play it at a club in NYC the crowd will go crazy!
I never played this game, unfortunately. You may also laugh at me, but when I heard this theme song for the first time, it brought so many beautiful moments in my mind...the videogame rooms, the arcades, infinite playing, chill around with other funs, the 90's...what a wonderful time to have lived in.
@@ejej3000its how I Piped the audio out to a cassette recorder in the 90’s. Sound test played the song in its entirety. 🤘🏼🤘🏼 Now I just use Audacity. 🤣🤣
It's the mid-late 90s. You're done school for the summer. It's nice & hot outside. But you're in the basement powering up your Sega Genesis to play Streets of Rage 2 and/or Sonic 2. Man, life was good...
Exaclty that feeling. Summer a bedroom smelling like cigarette smoke but with the latest black cool sega megadrive and its awesome controller. With streets of rage 3 and sonic 3 i felt top of the world!
Heyy! I remember you (a comment or something?)! :D Glad to see youre still around youtube. Guess I will subscribe you now... Awesome track but I think I heard a different version in SoR3 or 4..
I was the only kid on the block that had a Super Nintendo back in 1992 (Every other kid had a Genesis) so I would go over my friend's to play this. Damn those were the good old days.
Oh my god. Pat was super right about this song! My neighbours are gonna hate me, because this deserves to be blasted at max volume! Thanks Super Best Friends.
Depends on the genre, really. Yuzo Koshiro was a master of the Genesis sound chip, but the Genesis sound chip always felt somewhat limited to me. It’s really at it’s best when showcasing groovy techno dance tracks like this, or hard rock. It always lacked the diversity of the Super Nintendo sound chip to me, which showed with games like Mega Man X1, that the SNES could do hard rock just as well as the Genesis, if not better. That’s why I feel like the title of gaming’s best musical composer has to go to the more obvious choice, Nobuo Uematsu.
20 years later, there isn't a single beat em up that plays as tight, precise and flawlessly as Streets of Rage 2. Even Streets of Rage 3 can't compare. The music, sights, levels, enemies, and bosses are perfect in this game. SOR Remake does a VERY good job capturing the series, but still, SOR 2 is the absolute king of beat em ups. This song brings back so many memories of this game and the good times I had playing it.
As a kid I would put this game on with a buddy and when the music hit it was as if the entire mood in the house shifted. The excitement a game would bring, that promise of new adventures just ahead, such a great feeling.
I was a Snes kid BUT this theme music puts me in my cousins room circa 1994 with that damn Sega Genesis... And this is hands down one of the best beats I've heard 16 bit my ass!!!
I just played Streets of Rage 2 for the first time (yes in 2022). I didn't play any of the Streets of Rage 2 games as a kid, I didn't play any side scrolling beat em ups at all, I went in totally blind and with no expectations or nostalgia. And damn is it fun! I've been playing it heaps all week. Partly because of the music, it's damn good.
Yuzo took music from various 80s-90s artists and reinterpreted them to suit the game. Inspiration from Maxi Priest for instance, is all over this game.
When I was a kid, I would almost sing Londonbeat's "I've Been Thinking About You" to this. I thought the beats in both tracks kinda sounded the same. Let me know what you guys think from this link below. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ixBryyQSrD8.html
What about Mario Bros? That is some downright legendary opening 1st stage music. it's been over 20 years since I last played it and it's still iconic opening music.
I discovered this song from an OG RU-vidr called MakeMeBad35, in a video titled Music Magic. I fell in love with this song and instantly downloaded it to my Ipod that same day. Every once in a while this song still pops in my head....
Brilliant soundtrack! I love this game, genuine Mega Drive classic. When I get my Mum’s old Mega Drive that I was recently given working, this will be one of the first additions to my collection.
Currently jamming out to this via an old Star Wars Bluetooth speaker I got on clearance a while back. Surprisingly, it hasn’t caught fire yet from all the sick beats Mr. Koshiro laid on us in this particular track. 😆
That bass sub back in the 90s. My older cousin had one, and the way that went through the sound system, despite Genesis "limitations" kicked ass! That first part of the song....
Playing this on a revision 1 Genesis (High Def Graphics model) with the Sega CD to handle the audio mixing on a high end trinitron with great speakers…. Chefs kiss.
